Back to the discussion.

As a brother in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (originally, and often still, just Sinfonia), I did think of that and almost commented on it in my post above. There is also Ceres, a (non-NPC) sorority.

Really back to the discussion.

This is just weird.

A great activity for someone with a lot of school loyalty would be, if it exists on your campus, the organization that provides tours to prospective students and their parents and assists visiting alumni.

Also, since it looks like you like to write, how about the school newspaper? That seems to be the sort of place where age wouldn't matter, and a different perspective, that of the nontraditional student, could even be something they would like to branch out into.

Yikes. I originally included Ceres in my original – and much longer - post. It seems I inadvertently edited them out. :o

Now really, really back to the discussion.

Shellfish...great idea! The best tour guides show their school pride. Better yet, at some schools they pay their guides.

KSUViolet06 09-26-2012 07:54 PM

Tour guides on my campus were called Student Ambassadors. It was a very competitive process to be part of it, but everyone I know who has ever done it has said that it was an amazing experience. You learn everything there is to know about the University and make great connections for after college (especially since you spend a lot of time at welcome receptions for high-profile donors, business people visiting the University, department heads, etc.)

You don't attend my school. Just like I don't belong to your GLO....you have absolutely NO idea what my school means to me and to other members of the Wolf Pack Nation. We live and bleed Silver and Blue and our traditions and rituals have meant more to me personally that I could ever speak of....I just don't have the words to describe being Wolf Pack for the rest of my life. I don't have any idea what being Kappa Alpha Theta means to you and your sisters, because I'm not Kappa Alpha Theta.

>>You're brand new to this school, right?

If you are offended because I placed Upsilon Nu Rho in my signature....then I'll consider deleting them as I don't wish to offend the fabulous ladies that I've met here on GC. The signature remains, whether it says UNR or Nevada. I consider myself part of the Fraternity that IS Nevada. That's something that will never change.

I deleted the letters from my signature, because it is apparent that they were offensive. I apologize for offending you and others, ThetaLady.

So, my story has a happy ending, as I realized that I found my Fraternity home....although it is not a GLO. Which, the more I think about it: whoever said "You'll end up where you're meant to." was right. I have found my home.

You really don't need to convince us.

So, I joined the Alumni Association of Girl Scouts of America (which I had no idea existed) and plan to be active in my council area and meet others who are also Girl Scout Alumni and two orgs on campus. One of the orgs has many of the same activities that I was looking to participate in: Philanthropy, Socials, Study Groups and fun and is co-ed. The other is one that combines Girl Scout and Boy Scout principles and is a new service org and is attracting some other non-traditional students...I am planning to run for secretary of that org.

I'm satisfied with this: as between School, the University Spirit Group I already joined, Ambassadors (If I'm accepted....I did apply for membership consideration), Activities with the Alumni group, and the two orgs I mentioned....I'll be a very, very busy person. Which I look forward to and was what I wanted.

Thanks everyone!

Neither did I - that sounds fun! Enjoy!

Thanks, I will.

It wasn't something that I was originally looking for. I was looking for information on how to volunteer with the local Girl Scout Council (because the Scouting Movement is something that I really believe in and remember participating in with joy as a girl.) and saw something on the Girl Scouts of America website about the Alumna Association. Along with many, many local members. :p

The unexpected things we find....especially when we're not seeking them out.

PackPride 09-27-2012 08:43 PM

I'm so happy for you! I've also joined a club (OSNA) and set up a meeting with the head of volunteering at the local Ronald McDonald House. I'm going to keep busy with that until Informal Spring Recruitment. I'm glad we've both found something that will make us happier for our time at school.

IcyIvy 09-27-2012 09:32 PM

Best of luck to both of you, enjoy! (:
