That's good to hear. But I would still suggest they tell someone about their experience so it doesn't fall into urban myth.

I was so afraid something like this would happen...I even advised a pnm who was going through to attend her pref parties (she was disappointed with her options) give them a good look but if she did not think she could be happy at either NOT to sign her bid card so she could participate in the colony events.
I am guessing that no one was quite explaining it like that... |

^^^I say this all the time, but really, the whole "I just didn't fit in there" argument ceases to be valid when you're dealing with chapters over like 75 women.
One of the only times I've ever really found it to be valid is when you're dealing with schools where there are like three chapters and each of them is super small (like, 35 people or less.) I could kind of see someone saying "I don't fit" with a group of that size because homogeneity (sp?) is sort of possible with a REALLY small group. Other than that, nah. |
When is bid day for A Chi O and Phi Mu? Are there any A Chi O alums from Arkansas on GC? I know Phi Mu had SEVERAL binders of recs for girls. Wishing these groups the best. 150 members in every pledge class with hundreds of girls being released from rush is extreme.

I wish every school did the big time numbers crunching (and PUBLISHING) that Illinois does so people could see that the actual straight up releases are relatively very few.

Enrollment for recruitment at Arkansas was roughly 1400. Quota was 150-ish, then about 150 were dropped or were released throughout the week.

but dropped or released is the whole thing. I don't like that they categorize those together because they are entirely different things, as is the drops after round one (pouty pouterson) or after pref (just wasn't feeling it).
But regardless, that's only 10% attrition, and I can't fathom any scenario where 1400 girls would go through rush knowing for sure they want to pledge, don't freak out and get her foot securely in her mouth far enough to do some real damage, didn't meet grade requirements or go in with a reputation that precedes her. That leaves very few girls who fall through the cracks or who were genuinely not liked by any chapter. Congratulations to Arkansas for placing a remarkable percentage of women through an insane process. eta/PLUS the girls who dropped out of rush with the intention of joining one of the colonies! |

Sorry that I misspoke regarding the numbers of girls that are released. Thanks for the update, WPSAXO! Love the user name!

The time is almost here and I know that everyone is excited about Bid Day for Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Mu this weekend.
I have heard that the quality of the PNMs has been strong and girls coming through have been terrific. What an incredible campus! The interview team for Alpha Chi Omega included some of our most prominent alumnae and I know that they were very, very selective in this process. We are so excited to be back of the U of A! What a great day for the entire community! |
