AzTheta, thanks for that. I had no idea Linda had covered it. Gorgeous.

It was so much "better" live, but then I have always thought Linda Ronstadt was superior live to any recording of her I ever heard.

I had to click on the link (even though I'm sick to death of this song) because for a minute I thought you meant Linda McCartney and I was scared.

 I would be too!

I'm pretty sure christiangirl knew that Dolly Parton wrote and originally sang the song. Dolly Parton is making money from the success of Houston's version regardless.

My apologies.

(Though you know if it had been Etta James being discussed, Dr.Phil . . . And I'm just glad to see a post from you.)

Hi, MysticCat :)

Did we discuss the Glen Miller (Mack Gordon/Harry Warren) original in the Etta James has died thread?

Very good point. No, I don't think so. It got discussed somewhere else (along with more recent versions of the song), but not in that thread I don't think.

I know. ;)

You all go create an "I Will Always Love You" thread like we did for "At Last."

Hey Phil! Good to see youl

Yes, I'm perfectly aware of who wrote it and sang it first. HOWEVER, I was not going off the original version (nor do I prefer it) so I choose to have pro-Whitney leanings in the Whitney thread. Is that too much to ask, people? It's not like I'm putting any wire hangers in your closets.

We've had the "Whitney v. Dolly" discussion surrounding "I Will Always Love You" on GC before, I know this because Dr. Phil and I had to agree to disagree, and she hates that.

^^^I remember a similar discussion in the thread about how remakes suck. Someone brought up how awful Dolly's remake of IWALY was and someone had to gently tell them that was the original. Hilarity ensued. :)

Duuuuude you can't "fix" a restatement of someone else's post. Now it's not fixed, it's just inaccurate because that's not what they said!

The fact that you even referenced Steve Jobs apparently means he played some similar part in your life.

If you don't understand that I don't know what else I can tell you.

Yes to this! Music plays a big part in my life-especially music from my youth and Whitney was a part of that genre. I found out a few minutes before I turned 40 last Saturday and a part of my childhood died with her. I am so sad:(.

How many times we have seen a great talent flame out?

Fame=money=stress=drugs=death?

It is so sad that these talents are lost to us.
Whitney was a talent beyond beleif.

Her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner will never be found any better.

RIP you great lovely person.
