Like the NDAA that allows the president to detain Americans without trial indefinitely....yeah I'm glad there are people fighting him tooth and nail.

My hypothetical should have read "...members of Gamma Phi Beta..."

Arguably that power was already there. The bigger problem is that we have a system that allows the legislative to pass laws that violate the constitution without being able to do anything unless the law is challenged in court, which is a long expensive process.

The fact that a national fraternity is endorsing a political candidate and party is very interesting to me. What about the men in these groups that are republicans or independents?

The organization is very clear that the fraternities not endorsing Obama, but certain members of the fraternities are.

I just don't get how people are missing this. It has been said repeatedly in this thread, including in the OP, that the fraternities are not endorsing a candidate. It's on the bottom of every freaking page on 1911 United's website: 1911 United is an independent political committee and is not affiliated with or otherwise sponsored by any other organization, including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Well you are right. In our nation's history, has ANY president not brought change?

Yes, William Henry Harrison.

Yes, William Henry Harrison.

And arguably Washington. Or any of the first 16 presidents.

Do you really not get how people are missing it? It's like the old saying. "Even though it wasn't an official XYZ event, the fact that it was all XYZ's there made it one". Yes, the IHQ's of the fraternities are not officially involved in this campaign but the fact that they are freely using the names of the fraternities for this campaign can easily bring people to assume that this was something endorsed by the IHQ. Not everyone reads the fine print disclaimers you know.

The vision is for Nupes and Ques to work together to build an army of Obama supporters across the United States. We will encourage every supporter of our President to volunteer for at least one day, one hour, or even one minute in order to re-elect President Barack Obama.

knight_shadow 01-17-2012 01:41 AM

^^^ The piece that you quoted is like saying "The vision is for Longhorns and Aggies to work together..."

That doesn't automatically mean "The board of regents at UT and TAMU officially endorse..." and the same goes for this organization.

The only time the names of the fraternities are used is when the website states "1911 United is an independent political committee and is not affiliated with or otherwise sponsored by any other organization, including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc."

Then that is the problem. There is nothing confusing or misleading about how 1911 United is being presented.

DubaiSis 01-17-2012 08:04 AM

Dr. Phil and Knight Shadow, how are you not getting that ALL black people walk in lock-step about all issues and do exactly as they are told? If members of these 2 fraternities have gotten together under a common goal to invigorate their young members to engage in their government, there HAS to be something sadistic, hateful and at the very least gang-like about it. FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR!!!!!

That's a very good analogy.

The operative word in what you said is "assume." I know not everyone reads the fine print (though it's not that fine in this case), but continuing to say that this effort is endorsed by the two fraternities leads me to think nothing has been read, either at the 1911 United website or in this thread. Forget the fine print; it's right there in the first post in this thread:

"Members of" is an important note because the actual fraternities (NHQ) do not officially endorse political parties and candidates.

It has been said a number of times since that first post. Given that, no I really don't see how people are missing it.

KAPital PHINUst 01-17-2012 10:21 PM

I can't get behind this movement/PAC at all. I will fight tooth and nail to get Obama evicted from the White House in 2013.
