That's good to hear, Gee. Although my sorority would be low on the list of possible expansion options at Arkansas, I think it would be exciting to see happen. In the sorority world, Arkansas would be near the top of prestige campuses for any NPC sorority.

A large colonization at any other campus would have an impact on the ability to colonize elsewhere in the same year. However, since the national organizations don't pay for the houses, i.e. build it and give it to the chapter, the money comes from local alumnae and the members...other than some start up monies, the investment in human resources, etc., that's not that much of a consideration.

You know what I was thinking about? What do the composites of mega-chapters look like? Are the composites huge or are the girls' faces tiny?
We thought ours were big with about 100 girls on them. |

I've seen one (for a Sigma chapter that is quite large) and they're just one really big composite. The pics are the same size as they normally are, there's just more of them (picture like 6 rows of pics on the bottom as oppsed to the typical 2 or 3ish.) Of course, one of them takes up nearly the entire wall, though.

LOL...I would love to see a composite that huge from the big hair era!! We had a sister whose head was "shrunk" by the composite company since her hair was so big and we only had 50 people...I can't imagine her hair x 200!! The faces would be miniscule.

I'm sorry, but that is just rediculous. I can't even imagine wanting 100+ in my pledge class particularly if you went to a small high school.

It seems hard to imagine that an NPC would consider coming to campus as a failure. Just doing simple math, if each chapter took 100, that is only 800 women, that leaves over 400 women who didn't join a house, that is a huge number. If it was only 100 I can understand an NPC's concern. Is a chapter required to have a house? If so, is there land or houses available for a new NPC anyways? |

A chapter is not going to be competitive (meaning they will not make quota) on that kind of campus without a house. That is a big hang up with any group considering expansion. Even if you had three chapters without houses ---- It is always hard to find available suitable land. It needs to be close to where the other houses are and big enough to build a comparable house to be competitive. Arkansas folks - I thought someone said there were empty fraternity houses or spots that would be acceptable? |
