As for the likelihood of getting a bid, as long as your daughter is high enough on Theta or DG's lists, she will get her bid, not listing the third chapter should not effect that as long as she wouldn't need to be a quota addition. She effectively eliminated her chances of being added to either group as a quota addition which may slightly decrease her chances of receiving a bid (minutely), but I don't even know if Ohio does QAs. If, however, she doesn't get a bid, I hope she really would prefer to not be in a sorority than to be a member of this third group.

If she does not get Delta Gamma or Kappa Alpha Theta, my guess is that she will be fine. I'm certain that all PNMs, including my daughter, were fully advised of the consequences of omitting a third choice from their preference sheet. She absolutely did not want to pledge the third unnamed sorority, so she must live with the results of her decision.

It's better than pledging and immediately dropping so kudos to her for knowing her mind, but sometimes I wonder what would happen if these girls would give these weak chapters a chance....

It might not be a weak sorority. It might be a perfectly fine or even super popular sorority that she personally can't stand.

Interestingly, over a half-dozen PNMs mentioned they also received two highly desired sorority options and a third choice they absolutely did not want among their Preference Day options.

Mere coincidence?

I don't think he'd word it this way if it was between three super popular groups with one she just couldn't stand.

I don't think 6-8 girls make a determining factor in the popularity of sororities. It could be a bunch of sheep who've decided they don't want ABC because one of them took their man or something. If these other two groups are THAT high up and the girls got to that point for pref, it doesn't make sense that they would have a third group that was at the bottom of the pile.

Anyway, I would think/hope BamaDad wouldn't be making such distinctions on GC as someone was exceptionally rude to him previously regarding tiers and such.

I remember, but I do have a very good feeling that this is EXACTLY what he is talking about.

Stepping out of my Pollyanna costume, I do too, and quite frankly, it kind of pisses me off.

I'm trying this "give people the benefit of the doubt" thing out. It includes watching Celebrity Rehab and not defriending people on Facebook whose every post says Obama = Satan because they both have 2 A's in their name.

I have the same problem...only I actually had someone send me this crazy Youtube video about how Jesus actually told us the name of the antichrist- Barak Obama. It is totally insane!

As with my daughter at Alabama, there is always talk about sorority "rank" or popularity on campus, fair or not. When I spoke with my Ohio State daughter today, she didn't say she rejected #3 because they were unpopular in comparison to other sororities. My impression was that she simply likes Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta way above #3, who consistently ranked last or near the bottom of her list. At no time during our conversation did she say that #3 was unpopular or "ranked" low on campus. Sorority #3 may, in fact, be a "popular" house on campus. I don't know.

She has two close friends in recruitment. Lets call them ABC and XYZ.

ABC had two selections available on Preference Day: Kappa Delta and #2, a sorority she always ranked last during elimination rounds. ABC named only Kappa Delta at the end of Preference Day.

XYZ had Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta and #3 (it may have been a different #3), like my daughter, as her options on Preference Day. XYZ similarly rejected #3 as an option following Preference Day.

As of 2:00 PM EST, none of the girls received the dreaded call signifying they would not receive a bid. Hopefully, they are past that point.

At 2:45 PM EST, they are supposed to meet with the recruitment organizers.

You are right. I don't know if Sorority #3 was fine or super popular or a weak house. All week, she repeatedly spoke of the positives of Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Delta (who cut her right before Preference Day).

When I described their choices as "highly desired sororities", I meant in their eyes, not how they supposedly ranked on campus. If my daughter selects a house that is not quite as popular as others, I support her decision entirely. Her life, her choice.

I have no idea if Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta are highly regarded at Ohio State or not. What counts is whether my daughter likes them enough to pledge their house.

[thread hijack!]
BamaDad, are you aware that your email was hacked last month? I got a few emails "from you" which I knew were phony - but couldn't report them because I don't have .gmail. Hope you have that straightened out by now!

[/hijack]

BamaDad 01-18-2010 03:40 PM

Yes, I was hacked. They said I was in the UK and wanted $$$$$ sent to the Bank of Montreal. I reported it to Google and the Bank of Montreal and received no financial harm. Thank God!
