There is a 34 year old brother in our chapter and it's perfectly acceptable. There are some problems for him only because of a large age difference between our youngest members and our oldest members, but those are to be expected. There is much less of a gap between 25 and 18 or 19 than 34. We have other brothers who are in their mid to late 20s and it isn't a problem at all.

A personal choice to make, like most.

On my campus there is a fraternity that has several guys that are 22-28 running around. The thing is, they were rushed as freshmen or sophomores. AND, they are normally alum who just hang out at the house on the weekend. I really don't think if they came to the house now, as students they would be considered because they won't have much time to dedicate to the fraternity. I know that most of the juniors and seniors are so swamped with school, they really only make it to big date parties and band parties, but they miss the day to day things, and miss out on just "hanging out at the house" with the other actives.

Even as a 24 year old freshman, you're going to have trouble at a lot of campuses, with a lot of organizations. People who successfully pledge at that age are the exception, not the rule.

However, a word of warning as far as this board: it appears from your user name that you're a legacy of a fraternity. That's fine, but I would hesitate to use the name of a group in your username (even if the description is accurate) unless you're actually a member. Some Sig Ep's may not appreciate it.

That's not the Univ. of Kansas, but it was intersesting to read. Not to get off topic from the original post, but all that for throwing gas on a bonfire? How does that fit into hazing?

There is a mention of "personal servitude" which is what I thought that hazing charge came from.

I also believe that often some act that falls in with risk management or just happens, brings attention to other things going on. I am going to make something up here as an example: Fire alarm goes off at the Phi Alpha Tau sorority house so all members go outside. It is discovered to be a false alarm (popcorn burning, system malfunction) and then it is noticed that the new members are wearing strange outfits and have sharpie markings on their bodies, are extremely drunk, have food in their hair, whatever. That brings attention to them and it is discovered that they are indeed hazing.

Or people just put photos on facebook because they are DUMB, that's an easy way to get caught.

Yeah, I saw "University of K..." and went from there. Extra random info about another school never hurts though... right?... heh..

And if it were really hazing, Nationals would have taken their charter away in a flash. I think one major the university is upset is because of the irresponsibility.. hence why they can't do anything with their house now.. the house can't be monitored by the university.. campus facilities can.

I used to work at Guantanamo Bay Detention Center. I can tell you all about how taking photos of the wrong sh#t can get your ass in a sling.

Just curious on how it went for the older guys that were wanting to join a fraternity. If they decided to and how it went for them.
