Try Yahoo groups. They have a pretty good calendaring feature.

MoxieGrrl 03-24-2003 06:51 PM

Corina-I dont' know if anyone has suggested them so far, but why not try Theta Nu Xi? They are a national non-NPC group that we've been hearing really great things about!

wishinhopin 03-25-2003 06:24 PM

Looked at a bunch of websites today, and I really feel happy about opening our eyes to some other options. I still, however, am very interested in AZD. Still not sure what to do about the makeover thing. I have to call all of the fraternities on campus and try to schedule rush events with them. It's a job I volunteered for, but now I realize that I absolutely do not want to do it. I hate calling people, and fraternity boys make me nervous on the phone. I'm being irrational I know. Mostly I'm just being lazy and not wanting to deal with taking care of this. I get so antsy when school is out- I love not having class, but I feel the need to get involved in so much stuff and then I get overwhelmed. I'm rambling again. I don't think I've said this in a while, so I'll say it again- it amazes me that people have taken the time to read through this whole big thread, and it amazes me ever more that everyone here is so supportive and helpful. It means so so so much to me, so thank you! More later...we're having issues with greek101.com. We ordered a specific t shirt from them, and they posted the artwork online, but it wasn't right, so we called and emailed them to correct it, and then they re-posted the same thing. So, whatever, I'm a little stressed about that. I should call them right now actually.
Corina:D (I'm having a good day)

why not suggest she give NBO a small percent (10%) of the total sales to support your group? Is that possible?

wishinhopin 03-25-2003 06:48 PM

I highly doubt Clinique would part with a penny. I could probably get some free gifts or something out of them though, I should talk to her about that. Sidenote: I looked at the website for Theta Nu Xi, and I was really impressed! Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to show it to all my sisters once we're all back in the same city.

It might be worth trying to get a cut from the Clinique sales. We just did a thing with these 2 Mary Kay ladies. They gave us 10% (or something like that) to go towards our philanthropy. One girl even won a trip to the Bahamas, but that might be a stretch. ;) Maybe they'd be willing to throw in some cash if they knew it was going to charity instead of maybe just to the sorority.

BTW, made my final decision today. I will definitely be starting grad school at UCSC in the fall. Woo hoo!!

Corina, dear one, please remember that YOU and NBO are the ones with the huge cheering section - bcause THEY BLEW IT!!!!! Shake these thoughts out of your pretty little head, because they are just not constructive - OR true!!

FWIW, I hated contacting fraternities, too. You never know when they're going to be flat out rude. Do you know someone in each house that you can speak to, one on one? It would help!

Keep the faith!

corina...corina

it's still all good. you have tons of possibilities if you expand the search a bit.
another thought...do you have a homeboy hamburger joint that might kick in 10 percent of a days receipt to help you?
this works here and you could channel some toward your charities...
lol

Fraternity Life, season two, will begin filming Delta Omega Chi local fraternity, on the campus of UCSC, next week.

I am so excited.

Vomit.

I just can't wait to see what this does for the already crappy image of greek life on our campus. In other news, rush is going well for us, and I should be able to update soon with actual progress.

OH GOD!

That said, best of luck to NBO in rush!

Dianne 04-08-2003 01:41 PM

Fraternity Life?! Oh my gosh...don't those guys know what a disaster that could be for their chapter? Especially on a campus that is decidedly not pro-Greek...best of luck to them...and to NBO with recruitment of course!!

navane 04-08-2003 02:05 PM

Uhm...how do I say this?...

I would suggest that NBO *not not not* participate with Delta Omega Chi while they are working with MTV. The LAST thing you ladies need is to be caught on TV with the guys in some crazy situation. That will so NOT help you in your bid to go national.

I'm not saying that I think you all are not smart enough to know better - I'm just saying it to be safe.

You may even want to write to AXiD to formally state that NBO does not intend to participate with the TV show in any capacity.

.....Kelly :)

wishinhopin 04-08-2003 05:15 PM

There will definitely be no participation with them, for this show or actually ever. They just aren't the kind of guys who we care to hang out with. As for AZD...it's been so long since there was much encouragement, and I just feel like they're over us now. I sent that email with all of our volunteer work, but the response I got was kinda ambigious. So I don't really know...it's something that's been bothering me for quite some time. I'm very distressed about this whole fraternity life thing too. It's just obviously a bad idea for so many reasons, and I really don't understand why they would do it. Whatever. None of the sororities will really be hanging out with them anyway, unless Alpha Psi decides that they'd rather be with DOC than respect the wishes of the national org they're trying to affiliate with- and I doubt that they would do that, they're not stupid. I'm just rambling now.

trisigmaAtl 04-09-2003 04:17 PM

I'm sorry you feel discouraged right now. have you thought about recontacting another NPC group? I really understand you attachment, I was the head of an interest group this fall who was looking to get another NPC chapter on campus. I did all this research and fell in love with ADPi. The colors, the symbols, the philanthropy and founding. The HQ is in ATL too, so I thought thier would be tons of support. Unfortunately, all our plans fell through (no vote to expand) and I was really dissappointed. i realize now, after joining another org that as important as a strong national rep is, it's the girls that make the sorority. There are 26 NPC orgs out there, there should be at least one that would love to colonize a great group of girls (AZD included). I'm not saying let go of that group, but maybe look into others too. I have read all of this thread, but I can't remember how active a role your schools panhellenic is currently taking. I thought that after a vote to expand is made the school sends out letters of interest and multiple groups come to present. Is this a possibility?
Also, remember that this is a long process, it may seem like you're in a slump, but it may seem like just a drop in the hat once you've finally made it through. Good luck and feel better, you are doing too many great things for an org not to want you.

FuzzieAlum 04-09-2003 04:59 PM

The problem is her school doesn't have a Panhellenic, because it only has one NPC sorority. (It may have a Greek council of some kind, but it wouldn't take on these extension issues.)

The fact that the one NPC group has lots more girls interested then they can accommodate and that there are two NPC interest sororities, NBO and Alpha Psi, would suggest to me that expansion is in order, but there's no systematic process to facilitate it - other than NBO and Alpha Psi themselves.

In any case, if a vote to expand is made, it can happen two ways - as TrisigmaAtl describes, where Panhellenic feels expansion is necessary, it votes, and all/some of the sororities are appealed to - or where a local group petitions to Panhel to join and ask for a national charter, in which case they choose the national organization themselves (with the national's agreement of course!).

This case is the latter but with no petition to Panhel required, and here's one more complication ... if NBO or Alpha Psi gets a charter first, that triggers the formation of a Panhellenic Council, leaving out the other local. That council then could vote not to expand! Unfair, yes ...

We haven't talked about Alpha Psi much on here, but I think it's worth noting that they have been around a little longer than NBO and have been pursuing one org themselves the whole time, and they haven't gotten it yet either, or we'd be calling them the AB colony rather than Alpha Psi!
