LMAO @ the Dukie quote

Senusret I 03-04-2008 09:50 PM

Regardless, Simon has no regrets. He even made a point of exonerating HBO for "The Wire's" shorter run this season by explaining that if they truly needed more time to wrap up their story (which initially included the revelation that Randy is indeed Cheese Wagstaff's son), HBO would have provided it. But he feels the tighter story is stronger for it. In Simon's view, "The Wire," its characters, and to an extent the complex issues plaguing Baltimore itself have ultimately been served.

I felt that they were related, but I would have never guess that Cheese was his father, poor kid.

The only thing missing is a quote and pic of Namond's mom, like "Put that bitch in baby booking...let him learn something." Classic.

Senusret I 03-09-2008 10:36 PM

I will admit, i saw the finale in advance thanks to a tip from a GCer ;)

So......thoughts?

All i gotta say is.... COMMISSIONER VALCHEK????????

mulattogyrl 03-09-2008 10:41 PM

Dukie broke my heart. :(

Senusret I 03-09-2008 10:48 PM

yeah, that was a heart breaker....

It's funny how a lot of spoiler sites were saying that McNulty would commit suicide. It would have fit with the whole "Greek Tragedy" thing the writers were going for.

Yeah I was reading that too. It surprised me when he didn't and just took responsibility for what he did. He did, in a sense, 'die' though. I thought that was slick.

I like how the cycle just continues though. It's such an example of real life. Sad, but true. What happened with Marlo though? Is he really out the game? I'm so glad that little boy got locked up (Kenard?). He was a little bad somethin', lol.

Phrozen1ne 03-09-2008 11:23 PM

well

Lester got with the stripper Charlene from season 1! I felt that something was going on between them. He was always mentioning Charlene and I thought it was an older lady. Alright Lester!

Herc pissed me off trying to play both sides of the fence:mad:.

Mike is the new stick up kid, wow!

Poor Dukie couldn't catch a break.

I hate Carcetti...punk ass.

Overall I felt that the series finale was o.k. I expected more.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 03-09-2008 11:28 PM

ok...well I guess I was satisfied that the writers tied up all the loose ends...I was sad about Duke and not surprised about Micheal.....I think they let Kima off the hook too easily for narcing but all in all not a bad wrap up....I'm sad that I don't have anything to obsess over now....:( I guess I'll actually have to study....:o

Senusret I 03-09-2008 11:39 PM

Did y'all get the impression that Sydnor was supposed to be the "new" McNulty? I know that was the same judge that McNulty would always go to in the first season, but I felt like Sydnor was giving me "Freamon."

Michael is the new Omar -- but I am sorry, I STILL think Michael is gay, not because he was molested, but because I feel it in my soul. lol

Duquie is the new Bubs.

Cheese got kilt by Slim Charles -- FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE WHOLE SERIES was whatever that short man said right afterward. I can't even remember now.

LOVED seeing Wee-Bey and Chris in Jessup together.

Phrozen1ne 03-09-2008 11:39 PM

Did Marlo feel that he maintained street cred by punching that kid? WTF

Marlo is so narcissistic. I loved the fact they didn't know who he was.

ETA: Who the hell names their child MARLO?

In a few years, we can have a follow-up movie with the kids from season 4......how hot would that be?

See how quickly his ass is erased from the streets. I think it was eating him up that he didn't get a chance to step to Omar.

Man, that would be dope. I wonder what the next big series will be for HBO?

Phrozen1ne 03-09-2008 11:48 PM

I'm glad cheese is dead and now that Kenard is in juve, the streets are safe.

Senusret I 03-09-2008 11:58 PM

Once you had the kids on the show last season, did you have trouble realizing that you were going to weave them into some pretty awful fates down the road?
No, we knew they were going there. Let me just say this: We're not being manipulative in any cynical way about marching those characters towards tragedy. If you read "The Cornerhttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=s...1&a=0767900316" [the book Simon wrote with Ed Burns], of the kids that we followed, two are alive, two were shot to death as teenagers, and another is in prison. We looked at what happened to the kids that we followed when they were 14 or 15, and looked at what had happened to them by the time they were 17 or 18, and "The Wire's" story reflects the odds.

I can understand why he would take that route after all the work he did. In the end everything that the police and higher ups said they wouldn't do, they did anyway so that people could keep their jobs and Carcetti and Narese could move up the ladder.

Sydnor is now the ultimate warrior. He will serve as both McNulty and Freamon in a one man war against crime. No more juking the stats for him! LOL

You know, the more I read David Simon's own words, the more it seems that he's just another self-righteous and arrogant white Liberal.

Very true. I grew up with a Dukie, Mike, Namond, and Randy.:( If this story had ended any other way would not seem realistic.

Well he couldn't possibly know the odds of kids making it out of these situations unless he lived or worked (community involvement) areas similiar to The Wire or The Corner ( another good movie). It kills me bit to see how much people assume after researching one group of people in one given area and then generalize things to make seem that this is what happens across the board.

teena 03-10-2008 12:43 AM

So...uh...that was it?

I think I was telling someone that Mike was like Omar.

unspokenone25 03-10-2008 10:09 AM

i know i haven't posted all season but oh well...

i was like whoa...mike is now the new omar. he even got it down to the catch phrase. that is something that surprised me but didn't surprise me about his character.

i still would like to know what exactly marlo stansfield is going to do with himself now. return to the game or go corporate?

BLUPERFECTION03 03-10-2008 10:34 AM

Marlo is gonna end up dead if the series were to continue, did you guys notice that Marlo was picking up where Stringer Bell left off with the whole real estate development thing...except Omar and Brother Muzone are not there to take him out! The only difference Marlo doens't wanna break outta his comfort zone with the drug cycle. I believe with everyone on Mike being the new stickup guy but not the new Omar, Omar had a code and he never shot old folks! I'm so happy cheese is gone...runs his mouth way too much, dumb and sloppy. With Slim stepping in for Marlo I think the game would run more efficiently now because Slim is a loyal and percise person. It was funny to here people still talk about Omar and how they think he died. Everyone got off pretty light with the whole Homeless murder fiasco...I was so hoping something was gonna happen to Templeton. But folks like him, Carcetti and Narese always land on their feet. Dookie I wasn't surprised in the least that he turned into a junkie...Mr. Presbo knew he was lying about being enrolled in the GED program but still gave him the money...oh well!! Chris and Weebay in jail together looks like the Barksdale legacy may resurface, with Chris doing his usual job as being Mr. #2 and the muscle.

I went to high school with someone named Marlo... a FEMALE

Senusret I 03-11-2008 10:05 AM

Well that makes more sense -- Marlo Thomas from TV and stuff. But Marlo for a boy?

kissy324 03-11-2008 10:09 AM

Like everyone else, I was also sad to see Dukie as a junkie.

But on a good note... Bub's sister finally allowed him upstairs for dinner. :)

I am so sad The Wire is over. I have no use for HBO anymore

I always thought of Marlo as a boy's name. Maybe it's because I am thinking of the rules of Spanish... Names/words ending is "o" are usually in reference to males, and those ending in "a" are in reference to females. Therefore, Marlo=male name
Marla=female name

I know... I'm analyzing too much.

Yeah, I liked the Bubs part.
