She was online a couple hours ago...I think if she was going to continue this thread, she would have done so already.

Probably that she got tired of everyone bitching at her about the way she described her experience, but that's only a guess.

Benzgirl 09-10-2007 03:27 PM

This is what the Daily Illini has. Not much more than we already know.

Do you think the way she described her experience was a good way to do it?

I agree that we can try to turn down the meanness and snark, but don't you think it was probably wise to point out some of the issues?

In general, is it really bad forum manner to re-post something that someone has deleted? It appeared that LMV's only concern was that no one re-post before Sunday, but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.

IMHO, I don't see it as bad forum manner at all.

People still have quotes up from now-deleted content. If the mods think it's okay to leave the quotes up as is, why wouldn't it be okay to re-post whatever content was in the e-mails to subscribed members?

irishpipes 09-10-2007 06:15 PM

Quota at Illinois was 48.

Was there a separate junior quota or were juniors "free"?

Is that high or low for the campus?

texas*princess 09-10-2007 07:50 PM

In all fairness, I think we really did her a favor by telling her how rude the original comments were. Had she not deleted her comments (except for maybe the ones that were already quoted) the comments could have ruined her recuitment.

Based on the way she was describing everything, she probably could have gone on for each round about how their nail polish didn't match or how ill-fitting their clothes were.

She didn't seem to care at first, but I think it's because pnm's don't realize how many members from so many schools visit these boards.

Maybe next time we should just keep our mouths shut and watch the pnm's recruitment get ruined... there's entertainment for those who were all angry that the comments were deleted because of the entertainment value.

I don't know if that includes the junior quota, but last year quota was 57, so 48 is low.

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 08:55 PM

thanks for all the PM's wishing me luck/hoping my recruitment went well, but i sort of learned that i should be a little more discreet- so how could i possibly give the name of the sorority i'm in (or not in? you never know ;) )? the sorority as well as i will only be attacked by those who were mad about my initial posts, and why would i let that happen?

by the way, i'm guessing that those who were sooo offended by my observations (which were never meant to hurt anyone's feelings as i wasn't planning to reveal who was who) are either:
1.) old as hell (bored and attempting to relive their glory days through the internet) and have no room to be shallow anymore
2.) in one of the not-so-hot and not-so-popular chapters, like, babybetawhatsherface and trying to spread the notion that all chapters are equally attractive (seriously???). why would a pretty girl get mad that i called her pretty?

oh, and the toenails previously mentioned were not merely chipped but looked like they'd been painted a dark color 3 months ago (less than 1/2 the nail had polish!?). to me, this just shows a lack of effort and personal hygiene. anyone can paint her toenails, or at least REMOVE the frickin polish if it looks like that. or don't wear sandals?

i didn't say that some of those chapters wouldn't make good friends or sisters or whatever, just tried to narrow it down easily at the beginning by who had the same sort of style as i do (i don't mean for that to sound conceited- if i hated wearing makeup and thought pedicures were annoying, my preferences would be completely different because i would initially pref. whichever chapter looked most like me).

anyway, by first pref party, everyone was cute and i no longer based my preffing on appearances, since i got to know everyone a little better. i wasn't out to find the best looking house, since, imo, it is hands down "raspberry sorbet" (and that wasn't my top pick). i don't know, would anyone be able to figure out who i am if i said which houses i went back to (in code, perhaps)? there aren't THAT many junior transfers around lol

wow.

Will someone please post the other posts leading up to this one so I can refresh my memories about raspberry sorbet?

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 09:07 PM

i don't remember what i said about them exactly... i think that they're very pretty (maybe i said hot?) and that people seem to like spreading rumors about them, but i think it's just out of jealousy

(they all seemed really nice and really un-whatever rumors were being said)

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 09:20 PM

oh, i also said that they didn't seem to take rush crazily seriously, because the girl i was talking to warned me before the song that rush could be pretty creepy and that the song was a little cheesy. it was really pretty though- they didn't yell/sing, just sang/sang. anyway, they were in my top 10.

Raspberry Sorbet was in the PNM's second group, which was not quoted by another GCer. If it was posted and deleted, most of us will not be able to find it unless we have a screen scraping program. It's on my work laptop, but I don't know if I had the program running at the time.

Come on, LMV, at least humor us with your initial description since you said my house was beautiful on the outside but smelled on the inside

it DID smell!!! maybe too many stinky pnm's coming through lol, i'm not sure. i don't have my initial descriptions saved anywhere, unless GC saves it somehow? otherwise, i think i'm clear to repost (so whoever had the stuff in a subscription or screenshot, go ahead) as long as i don't give results by name from here out.

boo now i'm so curious and confused! i actually tried looking up angels and arrows on google and got some weird ceramic pattern thing and a bunch of other random links.

AngieWashU 09-10-2007 09:40 PM

Angels and arrows are symbols of Pi Beta Phi, so I think that poster was hopeful that you didn't get a bid from her sorority(I assume).

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 09:41 PM

oh, lol well i'm glad i didn't too in that case.

I don't agree with the way the original opinions were posted, either, and initially some of the commentary from GC members was meant as helpful, but it started getting more of a 'bite' than was really necessary at some points. That said, I didn't read each and every posting, only checking in when I got requests to do so.

A couple of people said they had screen shots saved. I don't know how that works, but they implied they could repost. OTW? Sarasmile?

Hopeful_Bubbles 09-10-2007 09:57 PM

Well if you got a bid congratulations. However, I don't think anyone who called you out for attitude did it out of age or sour grapes. It's more of a golden rule/ "if you don't have anything nice to say" thing.

I didn't mean for anyone to know whose house was whose, in fact it was a girl from a less desirable house, imo, that pretty much figured it out and told everyone lol. I wouldn't have revealed who was who after being so blatantly honest. The golden rule is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," and honestly, if someone wants to comment on my appearance and whether or not they think we'd make good friends on some random forums on the internet, go for it! I won't be offended, trust me. Some people were just being argumentative, which is fine with me, but I'll bet they fall into one of those categories. One of the main offenders for sure does :-p

Wow.

You must have gotten a great bid. Do you think the chapter would be proud of what you are posting here?

Did you or did you not actually post in practically alphabetical order? That's hardly the most complicated "code" to disguise who was who.

I think anyone with a passing familiarity with your campus probably could have cracked it.

Anyone else really starting to doubt that this is a real PNM? (or doubted all along, maybe?)

UGAalum94 09-10-2007 10:13 PM

Obviously what? That your chapter would be proud or that you aren't a real PNM or new member?

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 10:14 PM

Have you been reading this thread?

And her post is what you pulled out as rude? So odd to me.

ETA: If that didn't make me lose faith in humanity, I think the fact that this thread has over 16,000 views does.

Wow.

Wow.

You should ask her what she thinks about red and buff roses and squirrels and pearls and see what happens. :) ;)

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 10:29 PM

i think you said something like "your chapter must be proud of you" rather than "Do you think the chapter would be proud of what you are posting here?"- to which i replied "obviously"...

anyway, i started posting at the beginning of recruitment. i don't think the way any sorority was initially described was particularly mean- and none of it was untrue. i didn't say anything bad about any of the sororities that i was willing to join. no matter who i am friends or sisters or whatever else with, i'm not changing who i am or what i say. some people like that, others can't take it. i've gotten lots of PM's from people who support me and like my honesty, and also people who have said that they'd like having someone like me as a sister :-*

oh, by the way, thank you for UGAalum for informing me of all the views this thread has- and, of course, thank you lovely viewers for making me a mini GC celeb!

*bow* ;-)

littlemissvixen 09-10-2007 10:31 PM

yeah, you never know UGAalum, we might be sisters! i'm not answering any more questions about angels and arrows or roses and pearls or anything else though! no process of elimination for any of you.

1. I did not, at any point, criticize your descriptions of the houses. I just pointed out that you posted them in alphabetical order.

2. You can say whatever you'd like about my chapter. You openly admitted that they dropped you, not the other way around.
