Congratulations to all the NPC women!! (especially those new Alphas!:) )

I hope that AZD has a successful COB, too!

I have a question (since this is so different from my experience). Are these the number of women/PNM's who actually accepted the bids? Are there a large number who don't accept bids b/c they didn't get the one they really wanted?

BamaDad 08-15-2006 08:15 PM

I've observed GreekChat for several months now. What an incredible source for information and ideas. My daughter is a new freshman at the University of Alabama going through rush. GreekChat likely has a few fathers watching or actively posting, so I thought it was about time to join the conversation. My daughter received recommendations for 14 of 15 UA sororities from fantastic alumnae. She looks like everyone else pictured in the UA sorority websites, great grades, etc., but unfortunately lacks legacy status. She is considering all sororities to see with whom she clicks best. I think I'm as nervous as my daughter, if that is possible. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and a prayer on my lips.

FSUZeta 08-15-2006 08:56 PM

welcome bamadad!! we actually had a very dedicated father who kept us updated on his daughters recruitment at fsu(she had a successful rush and pledged alpha chi)-it is neat to hear a father's perspective.

please tell your daughter not to worry too much about her lack of legacy status. some chapters have so many legacies they could limit extending bids only to legacies and still not be able to pledge them all, filling their slots to quota before all the legacies received bids. that is one reason that legacies might only have a slight advantage-if at all--over non-legacies. a legacy still has to have grades, personality, present herself well, activities and honors and the chapter needs to feel that she would fit in and be able to contribute to the chapter.

southernyankee 08-15-2006 09:40 PM

Bamadad...good luck to you and your daughter. My daughter is also rushing at Bama. I will keep fingers crossed that they both do well.:D

ADPi Conniebama 08-15-2006 09:46 PM

First of all - I loved hearing about Auburn recruitment and all of the successes and stories and I love UGA recruitment and FSU and UCF recruitment but

ROLLLLL TIDE

(I know I am a side walk fan but a big fan none the less I love going to the house on game days and I love hearing about recruitment at BAMA)

Bama DAD and Southern Yankee Keep us updated on how the recruitment goes - I hope your beautiful daughters have a wonderful time and stay cool and dry.

BamaPhiMu 08-15-2006 09:52 PM

Hi there BamaDad! Best of luck to your daughter during rush week at Alabama. I think lack of legacy status is sometimes beneficial as it helps to let the girl choose where she fits rather than following family members. My daughter just finished rush at Auburn and I told her from the beginning to follow her heart and choose the sorority that was the best fit for her. My advice to you this week is to be supportive through the nerves, tears and laughter....there will be plenty of it all! Good Luck to your daughter and to you as well! :o

honeychile 08-15-2006 10:06 PM

BamaDad, it's always good to see a father concerned about his daughter's Recruitment! Let's face it - she'll always be Daddy's Little Girl! I sincerely hope that she gets the bid of her choice.

Keep us updated, okay?

(and if you're Joe Namath, I'm dying! I'm really dying!)

BamaDad 08-15-2006 10:56 PM

To all of you who welcomed me with your kind words, thank you very much. And to southernyankee, my best wishes to your daughter too. From what I've gathered, rush is going quite well. My daughter said they had tornado warnings briefly in Tuscaloosa along with an incredible rain storm. A lot of soaked but happy young ladies. And honeychile, I'm not Joe Namath (unfortunately). Just another Washington, DC lawyer among a zillion others. Now Joe Namath - that is somebody! Not enough can be said for all the wonderful alumnae out there who assisted my daughter and others with recs. Many took the time to meet with her at Starbucks for personal interviews, then kindly offered to introduce her to alumnae from other sororities. If we could not find a local alum, national headquarteres folks were exceptionally gracious in finding connections for which we are truly grateful. One alum interviewed my daughter, then asked to speak to my wife about the pending departure of our little girl to a distant university many miles away. If this is typical behaviour among sororities, then I can expect nothing but the best for my daughter if she is fortunate enough to receive a bid. I will keep you posted - please let me know if there are any things I cannot mention during the process. Thanks!

carnation 08-20-2006 05:23 PM

Yayyay! I know at least 2 girls rushing at Shorter College next month! The sororities there are Phi Mu, Zeta, and the local, Ep Sig. I talked to both and highly recommended that they choose a national--those of you who remember my threads on the locals there and what all went on with them will remember that the then 2 locals hazed horribly and last year, someone got a picture of the remaining one doing it again. The dean (a KD) marched around the freshman convocation with the picture and announced, "THIS is hazing. If someone tries it, tell us." I hope they will.

Anyway--I still don't know where the PNM at UGa went and the PNM at Ga Tech is rushing as I write this! Her choices will be: AXO, ADPi, AGD, AZD, Phi Mu, and Zeta. Her mom is a a member of one of those.

NUBlue&Blue 08-20-2006 05:32 PM

I served dinner last night to my daughter's house with a few of the local area moms at our North Avenue Trade School, and the girls were very tired! They had so many going through that they added an extra party.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your hometown girl finds her new home!

dgdramadawg 08-20-2006 05:45 PM

GOOOOOO carnation's GT PNM! If she visits AGD on Monday, maybe she will see my mom working the refreshments! :)

Question, were You affiliated with a National GLO?

I find it admirable that you found this Site and asked queations!

The Kids have to go off on their own and one can only hope that the training they got from Parents and Teachers were good enough to make them think about what they are doing!:D

carnation 08-23-2006 08:49 PM

:D I would like to announce that Indigo, who is at Georgia Tech, is a proud new member of:

Zeta Tau Alpha!!!!

Woohoo! This means that she and Red (at Auburn) are now best friends and sorority sisters!

PenguinTrax 08-23-2006 08:53 PM

Welcome Sisters! :D

Ocalagirl 08-23-2006 08:59 PM

FloridaTish 08-23-2006 09:28 PM

Yeah for Indigo and ZTA! One of my bridesmaids and best friends for 20 years was a ZTA at Georgia Tech in the early 90's. She lived in the house for a year and I thought it was beautiful!!!

I love happy endings!!

tinydancer 08-23-2006 09:32 PM

Congratulations to Indigo and her Zeta sisters and friends.:)

dgdramadawg 08-23-2006 09:34 PM

Wow! One of my sister's close friends at Tech just pledged ZTA, too!!!!! I didn't even know she was rushing, and now she and Indigo are pledge sisters!

FSUZeta 08-24-2006 10:57 AM

FSUZeta 08-26-2006 09:42 AM

Carnation-there is a girl from this area that is rushing at Valdosta next week as well. She's an in-house Phi Mu legacy, AND she would be a great catch for any of the groups down there-so should be interesting! I'll post after it's all said and done!

carnation 08-26-2006 11:21 AM

Colors! Aiee, I forgot about that and there aren't any more rainbow colors. (I still don't know where Orange went.) Okay, let's take red-orange and call that PNM Tangerine and blue-green for the other one, we'll call her Turquoise. I don't know the other 2 but I'll report where they went when we get results. I talked to Tangerine this morning and she asked, "What are recs?" Luckily, recs aren't as necessary at VSU but still, I got some really quickly--also, there's a VSU girl from here who pledged with BlazerCheer...she's an officer in their sorority now so there's one sorority member that Tangerine knows. (This girl, btw, is Red's sister, Red being a new Zeta at Auburn.)

BBelle, good luck to your PNM!

VSU rush starts on Sept. 2nd, I believe! :)

Congratulations to Munchkin's girls and your Rainbow girls! Best of luck for the start of a good year!

carnation 09-02-2006 04:36 PM

honeychile 09-02-2006 10:25 PM

So there's a potential that friends could end up as sisters? How cool is that?!

carnation 09-04-2006 03:24 PM

We just got a phone call! Tangerine and Turquoise are:

KAPPA DELTAS!!!!!!!!

Is this at the same school? That would be really wonderful! But even if different campuses, that is still really great!

carnation 09-05-2006 06:35 AM

Yes, they're at Valdosta State and they're roommates --and they're going to have such a fabulous time togther!

tinydancer 09-05-2006 06:39 AM

Congratulations to Tangerine and Turquoise!

pinkyphimu 09-05-2006 07:09 PM

hurray for the "t"s

honeychile 09-05-2006 10:15 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!! I feel like I called this one right!

carnation 09-09-2006 10:53 AM

So I saw a Zeta from Shorter last night and mentioned that she must be happy that 2 girls from her high school are rushing there. She was thrilled and had no idea they were rushing. I asked why they didn't have a list of PNMs and she said, "Are you kidding? The school hasn't even told us how many girls are rushing and I still haven't seen any rush banners." Recruitment is in a couple of weeks!

I desperately hope that this doesn't get screwed up because someone's on a power trip.

Congrats to the two new Kappa Deltas!!!

carnation 09-23-2006 07:56 PM

And the good news keeps on coming! Of the 5 girls who cheered and graduated together at my daughter's high school: a third one just went Zeta-- at Shorter College! :) :) :) So 3 Zetas (Auburn, Georgia Tech, Shorter) and a KD (Valdosta) and we'll see where my daughter goes next year!

I'm told that Phi Mu and Zeta got quota and no one knows about the local.

Your hometown must have a Zeta who really knows to write a good rec!

carnation 09-06-2009 02:29 PM

OMG, I just saw this again. All these girls are seniors now..two of them were the rush chairmen for their sororities this year!
