10 Year Old Arrested for Scissors at School
EXCERPT: PHILADELPHIA - A 10-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and taken to a police station because she took a pair of scissors to her elementary school. School district officials said the fourth-grade student did not threaten anyone with the 8-inch shears, but violated a rule that considers scissors to be potential weapons. Administrators said they were following state law when they called police Thursday, and police said they were following department rules when they handcuffed Porsche Brown and took her away in a patrol wagon. "My daughter cried and cried," said her mother, Rose Jackson. "She had no idea what she did was wrong. I think that was way too harsh." |
 The law is OUT OF CONTROL! Let's take it back to the old west...

Mom arrested after Tot dies in "filthy" hotel room!
Some PEOPLE need to be FIXED so they can't have kids....crazy and sad!! The Florida DCF seems to have dropped the ball again
http://cnn.aimtoday.cnn.com/news/sto...72.htm&sc=1110 Mom Arrested After Tot Dies in Motel Room ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A woman was arrested on child abuse charges Tuesday after her 3-year-old daughter was found dead in a filthy motel room where they lived with the woman's five other children, authorities said. Deputies found dirty diapers and trash littering the room at the extended-stay motel, and baby bottles containing moldy milk and what could have been maggots, said Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Barbara Miller. Kenya Hill, 27, called 911 Monday and an emergency operator tried to give her CPR instructions for little Kai Gadison, but Hill told the operator it was too late, Miller said. ``She said, 'Oh, no, the baby's cold. I think she's dead' and started crying,'' Miller said. Kai, whose body was found on a bed, may have been dead for a day or two, authorities said. The Orange-Osceola medical examiner was performing an autopsy. According to county records, Hill was arrested in April 2002 for felony child neglect. Miller said she did not know the outcome of that case. Department of Children & Families officials did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment. The state agency has come under scrutiny since the disappearance of Rilya Wilson, a foster child who was in the state-approved care of a woman with a lengthy criminal record. Hill and the five other children - three girls and two boys, all under the age of 5 - were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Miller said Hill complained of stomach pains and investigators found bruising on some of the children. Hill was charged early Tuesday with domestic related child abuse and was being held without bail. Neighbors said the children's father, Nathan Gadison, was in Tampa buying supplies for his tattoo business. Investigators had not yet spoken to him, Miller said. According to motel records, the family checked into the motel on Aug. 9. |

If I am not mistaken, this is not the first time someone has killed a pregnant woman and stolen her baby. It's terrible. I hope that the baby survived and is found.

TTT/Tiny preemie goes home
A nice story for Christmas. Babyperson Rumaisa is on the right:
http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com...lt-367x244.jpg Smallest baby everclose to leaving Illinois hospital Mom calls preemie who weighed 8.6 ouncesat birth ‘a great blessing’ The Associated Press Updated: 6:40 p.m. ET Dec. 21, 2004 CHICAGO - A premature infant believed to be the smallest baby ever to survive was called “a great blessing” Tuesday by her mother, who is preparing to take the little girl and her twin sister home from the hospital. The baby, named Rumaisa, weighed 8.6 ounces when she was delivered Sept. 19 at Loyola University Medical Center — less than a can of soda. That is 1.3 ounces less than the previous record holder, who was born at the same hospital in 1989, according to hospital spokeswoman Sandra Martinez. Rumaisa, her twin sister, Hiba, and their parents were introduced Tuesday at a news conference at the hospital in suburban Maywood. The girls were wrapped in identical striped blankets. Mother rendered speechless Their mother, Mahajabeen Shaik, said she didn’t “have the words to say how thankful I was” when she first got to hold her children, in their second month. “It’s a blessing, it’s a great blessing,” Shaik said. Hospital officials said they’re doing so well that Hiba, who weighed 1 pound and 4 ounces at birth, could be released from the hospital by the end of this month, with Rumaisa following as early as the first week of January. “They’re maintaining their temperature, they don’t need an incubator. They’re taking their bottles. ... They’re normal babies,” said Dr. William MacMillan. Rumaisa now weighs 2 pounds and 10 ounces. Her twin weighs 5 pounds. Shaik, 23, developed pre-eclampsia, a disorder characterized by high blood pressure and other problems, during pregnancy. The condition affected Rumaisa in the womb and her mother’s health, prompting a Caesarean section at 25 weeks and 6 days. Normal gestation is 40 weeks. Shaik and her husband, Mohammed Abdul Rahman, 32, said they are looking forward to bringing their children home. The couple, originally from Hyderabad, India, live in the suburb of Hanover Park. ‘She wants them to be doctors’ “We want them to be good human beings, good citizens, and she wants them to be doctors,” said Rahman, looking at his wife. “Doctors. Yes, of course, of course,” she said, laughing. Both girls underwent laser surgery to correct vision problems common in premature babies, MacMillan said. Tests have shown that there is no bleeding in Rumaisa’s brain, another common complication in premature infants that can put them at risk for cerebral palsy. Madeline Mann, the previous record holder as smallest known surviving preemie, returned to Loyola Hospital earlier this year for a celebration. Now 15, she was described as a lively honor student, though small for her age, at 4-feet-7. According to the hospital, more than 1,700 newborns weighing less than two pounds have been cared for there in the past 20 years. Stephen Davidow, a hospital spokesman, said a routine delivery costs about $6,000, while caring for a premature baby costs about $5,000 a day. Rumaisa, who has been in the hospital 90 days, is covered by Medicaid, hospital officials said. |

Mom Stabs Son Over Porkchops
DECEMBER 21--Meet Tammie Josette Peter. The Louisiana woman, 31, allegedly stabbed her 12-year-old son and 15-year-old brother after discovering that the older boy was cooking pork chops for himself. According to the below report prepared by Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies, Peter went nuts after returning to her Monroe home late Sunday evening and seeing her sibling "cooking two pork chops for himself and none for anyone else." After throwing one chop at the boy, the "altercation turned physical," with Peter stabbing her son in the shoulder when he tried to keep her from arguing with the older child (the boy received stitches at an area hospital). The older boy wasn't so lucky. As Peter's boyfriend was preparing to take the 15-year-old somewhere else to spend the night, the woman allegedly stabbed her brother in the chest (the boy is hospitalized in critical condition). Peter, locked up in the Ouachita Correctional Center in lieu of $15,000 bond, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery. This is the second pork-related story out of Ouachita Parish in the last few months. (2 pages)

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) - Colombian drug traffickers surgically hid heroin in puppies' bellies in a plan to evade international customs controls, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, police found six puppies with scars on their abdomens at a rural property near the city of Medellin in northern Colombia, the Colombian Police said in a news release. Ultrasound scans revealed bags of liquid heroin hidden inside the living animals. Police said traffickers planned to retrieve the drug once the dogs had passed customs abroad. "The lust for money leads criminals to commit acts of great cruelty," the police said. The puppies were recovering after the heroin was removed by veterinarians. Using animals for smuggling is unusual although drug smugglers often rely on couriers to swallow condoms full of drugs and one Colombian woman was once found with cocaine surgically implanted in her buttocks. Colombia is the world's largest producer of cocaine and the main supplier of heroin to the United States. Link |

Judge stops pregnant woman from divorcing abuser
Judge stops pregnant woman from divorcing abuser
Says husband unaware of baby by another By Sam Howe Verhovek, Los Angeles Times | January 10, 2005 SEATTLE -- The day she was granted a divorce from her abusive husband, Shawnna J. Hughes said, was "the happiest day of my life." But barely a week later, the 27-year-old medical assistant was back before a judge, who rescinded the order after learning Hughes was pregnant by another man. "Not only is it the policy of this court, it is the policy of the state that you cannot dissolve a marriage when one of the parties is pregnant," Superior Court Judge Paul A. Bastine told Hughes on Nov. 4. Story continues here Edited to add: The mom is also on welfare, so the state has an interest in delaying the matter until paternity is established. |

That is completely insane. I'm gonna need the judge to swing by the battered women's shelter and tell them they have to stay with their husbands if they were pregnant. And I'm not getting why he's forcing a marriage to stay on the books when one party is already in jail and facing other charges. Just CRAZY!!!!!

That is exceedingly disturbing.
I need for that judge to be removed from the bench ASAP!! |
