Good point. I'll see what else I can find. |

The problem is, leggings are an "up & coming" fad that may or may not catch on. Even in super-trendy places that keep up with the up-to-the-minute styles they'd still be considered risky. But you're rushing in Central IL. Central IL is far from the fashion capital of the world, and in fact tends to be anywhere from 6 months to a year behind the trends, if the trends even catch on at all there. If you really want to wear leggings because you like them and don't mind dying of the IL heat, go ahead, but be prepared to get some odd looks. |
Just because something isn't explicitly stated as being banned does not necessarily make it acceptable. During recruitment, you want to come off as a classy lady. Leggings=not classy.
The choice is yours. It's your recruitment and you can certainly dress however you like. However, the majority of advice-givers on this board are current sorority women, alumnae and advisers from all over the country, including the geographic region where you are attending college. They know what they're talking about and the unspoken "rules" of the events. Like it or not, in addition to grades and your recruitment application, people are evaluating you on how you present yourself. Yes, you want to be unique, but you also want to "go with the flow" and look like you fit into a group. |
I don't think leggings are necessarily a no-no. It just depends where you live and what the fashion trend seems to be in your area at that particular time. Right now, it's a little too early to see what will happen in a month.
Also.. having attended rush in Florida, and in NJ.... wow.. what a difference! I was helping out a pref party in NJ, and all the girls were wearing jeans and Ugg Boots. I couldn't believe it. In Florida, you wouldn't be caught dead in anything but a nice cocktail dress. |
On this whole leggings issue: I live near a high school and during the school year there were tons of girls wearing leggings. I personally find them hideous and unflattering, but it appears that the 18-ish crowd thinks they're stylish. I don't know who on here is an alum and who is active (I'm 26 and have been out of college for 5 years), but we may be a little behind (or not privy to) the current style of the high school/early college group. Just a thought.

I have never seen Ugg boots worn to pref at my school, but plenty of girls (both actives and PNMs) wore them to rush. Personally, I think they're ugly as all sin but that's just me.

I don't care where you're rushing, or who you are, these three things will never fail you. |

jbj52503, I completely agree with you on those suggestions. :) |
I just read the new Cosmo (Summer/Fall 2006 issue) and it says that "It's all about leggings: Lots of starlets are stepping out in leggings...and so will you. This retro gam-wear is a very major must right now."
I think this is a bad idea. Leggings must be left in the past. |

BLACK leggings, in mid-August? Are you on crack? Do you know how sweaty and uncomfortable your legs are going to be? Do you want to run the risk of passing out? |

You needed a [/ before your last QUOTE. It should read [/QUOTE] at the end. Sometimes if you erase part of the person's quote, it takes part of that with it. |

I believe she's rushing in Central IL. Which as I said before is WAAAY behind the times in style and anything wacky that's "to-the-minute" shouldn't be worn. |

Maybe it's because I went to private school for a big part of my life, but I have never considered twinsets to be dorky and matronly.
|
Again, I went to school in upstate NY and I wouldn't say that.

You're right. KLPDaisy's only been living in NY since she was 7. She doesn't know what she's talking about. Stupid Russian-born Jews.:p |
I would say that it's okay to wear leggings to rush if the following things are true:
-you look awesome in them -you're quirky/fashionable/stylish enough to put together a kickass outfit -you're confident enough to pull them off -the weather is not too hot for leggings. Do I personally like leggings? No, and the thought of them gives me a horrible 80s flashback headache. That said, if you're 18 and you like them, have at it, even if you're somewhere that's not terribly up-to-date fashion-wise, IF you can work it. There are very few articles of clothing that are never a good idea -- mom pants, baggy tentlike shirts, fake designer handbags -- anything else can work *if* you figure out your own style and what flatters you and then make it work. Twinsets can be frumpy or fab, depending what they look like and what you do with them. |

I can say it because between her, Drolefille and I, we have a Jew, a Catholic and a Protestant...it sounds like the set up to a great joke. |
A priest, a minister, and a rabbi walk into a bar. The bartender says "what is this? a joke?"
And now back to your regularly scheduled programming. |

Right here: "Because you make it out to be like you're the only one who knows what she's talking about, and frankly, your statements are very broad and not that true." |

I have no idea what that means. Was that an approximate, "I know you are, but what am I?" Seriously.
|
Yes.. seriously. Because this whole thread has degraded to a Pee-wee Herman thread.
It's just unfortunate that some people on this forum feel that if someone disagrees with another person's opinion, then it is a personal attack. It isn't.. until someone makes it one. And, with that said... I think what to wear depends on where you are going to school. When I was at UF-- the dress at rush (and initiation) was much more conservative than up here in the NY metro area. What's considered the norm and acceptable, depends on where you live. |
Since we're completely off topic anyway....some suits just went on sale on jcrew.com. Score.
