NY Post weighs in on Zim v. Don Pedrito

http://www.nypost.com/images/front101303.gif

This is the back of today's New York Post. And the tabs are calling Petey "Fenway Punk" and "Psycho Pedro."

The1calledTKE 10-13-2003 06:54 PM

Zim charged Pedro and swung a Pedro. He even appoligized and tv and cried about it the next day. What was Pedro suppose to do take the punch? I think not.

ok, i'm sure i'll get flamed for this, but i'd just like to say (and i'm sure this is also going to be a well, she's a die-hard red sox fan so of course she's going to say that) but...

i don't get how everything is turning into pedro is the bad guy. yeah what he did was wrong, he could have handled himself better, he should know better. but zim should also know better, he charged at pedro, did he think pedro was just going to take it?

i think that manny overreacted about the clemens pitch. i've read a lot about people thinking that pedro's hitting garcia was intentional and unintentional. i, personally, don't know which it was. and i think there is only one person who really does know..

but what i want to knows is how come nothing has since been mentioned about how garcia purposefully slid into walker when he knew he was out in that double-play? how come bloomberg is calling for pedro to be arrested, but has nothing to say about a fenway groundskeeper, who was assigned to sit in the yankees bullpen but was cheering for his employer and team, ended up in the hospital with cleat marks in his back and arm and a neck brace on? how come it's turning into the red sox are a$$holes but not the yankees?

i don't think the members of the red sox were right for all that they did, but i think the yankees definitely had a lot more fault than some people are saying they do...

flame on...

Why Pedrito may be the bad guy

One of the reasons why I think Pedro's being jumped on is that Zim is 72 and has a metal plate in his head. I think both parties were at fault in this, but to some, it just doesn't look cool when a 32-year-old guy makes contact with a guy 40 years his senior.

Plus, Pedro was considered a massive headhunter back when he was pitching in the National League. Some people suggested that perhaps he would temper his style if he were forced to bat and face the consequences of his actions, but I kind of doubt that.

The1calledTKE 10-13-2003 07:37 PM

Yep Nicole the yanks can't do no wrong as long as they are winning. The problem is they have so many bandwangon fans they have to bitch about how people did bad things to the yanks to prove they are a fan. But if the Detroit Tigers become a power house and win 6 stright world series I bet there would be much less yankee fans and more detroit fans.

I Agree with you. It seems that Pedro hasn't really adjust his style since coming to the American League. He still pitching high and inside the plate.

mmcat 10-13-2003 11:31 PM

joy to the world...
bosox still live...
let's go for bosox and cubbies...
it should be both of their centuries....
don't ya know.

Buttonz 10-14-2003 01:47 PM

I said Yankees in six...meaning that we have to win tonight! GO YANKEES!

docetboy 10-14-2003 11:10 PM

DAMN GOAT!!!!

mullet81 10-14-2003 11:14 PM

that cubs "fan" (and i use the word fan lightly) who reached down for that ball is probably the most hated man in chicago right now. i bet he's fearing for his life - if he gets to his car safely, i'll be shocked.

He was ushered out of the field by security guards right after the play...probably saved his life.

Peaches-n-Cream 10-14-2003 11:47 PM

The Yankees won!!!

Thrillhouse 10-15-2003 07:46 AM

I sure hope the cubs lose tonight. I don't think they will lose since Wood is unbeatable but damn I sure hope so. :D

I said Yanks in six as well - would be the first time I've been right on the number of games in a while.

Cubs game was tough...but I'd blame the Gonzalez error at short and the Prior wild pitch just as much as the fan interference. Awful break though.

Anyways....GO YANKS. Hopefully they close it out tonight against Burkett.

And there are a HELL of a lot of bandwagon Sox fans...a ton of them out there. Maybe not as many as the Yanks bandwagon-jumpers, but a significant amount. I think a lot of those "Sox fans" could find themselves rooting for the Cubs if it came down to it.

I agree with Nicole that there hasn't been much said about the bullpen incident, and that the Yankees in the pen were wrong about what they did. It was a classless act by Garcia and Nelson, and they should see punishment for it.

With the Zimmer situation - remember, this is a guy who was in a coma for 13 days after getting hit in the head as a young player. So excuse him if he gets a little fired up when Pedro points to his head while looking at the dugout, implying that he'll throw at Posada's head.

Was Zimmer wrong - yes. Was Pedro wrong - yes. Was the Yanks pen wrong - yes.

I'm more of an anti-yankee fan than a sox fan. My support of the sox is tempered by their inane motto, "Cowboy Up". That saying looks retarded anywhere, on pickups, t-shirts worn by "economically-challenged southerners" or on belt buckles.

My 2 favorite teams are the Astros and whoever's playing the Yankees. And i'm rooting for the Marlins simply because docet's creaming his pants over the cubs.

Kitso
KS 361 seasons before the Astros ever win a playoff series, but i'll tough it out

What a frigging tool! We have his picture on Wanted Posters palstered all around the office. The shitbrick works for Hewitt Consultants and went to Notre Dame and they released all his info today.

And the difference between Sox fans and Yankees fans was in this good espn article a little while ago. You can wear a Sox shirt in NY without getting harassed...the same isn't true of wearing a Yankees shirt around Fenway. Both Boston and NY have bandwagon fans but Boston has to make those stupid shirts and everyone has to wear them. They just really aren't funny even. On top of that, they act like they "deserve" it...nobody "deserves" anything.

It almost sounds as if you wish harm upon this young man, that's semi-twisted. It's baseball for funk sakes.

Exactly, bandwagon fans including half of my friends. When in all truth they probably couldn't name half of the players on the team w/o checking it out on the internet or some type of magazine. People always looking for a reason to bitch.

There is no woo woo fake Cubs fans, you are all getting punked.

i don't wish harm upon him at all. i just know how cubs fans are when they've drank too much old style and their team is losing. it can be a scary, scary place.

Is mullet a FIB?!?!?!?

on another note you could have at least used Pabst instead of Old Style, I would have given you points!

Steeltrap 10-15-2003 08:27 PM

Don Pedrito Martinez?

Assuming there's going to be a Game 7 in the ALCS (Boston is leading 9-6 as I post this, the "Dominican Diva" (Mike Barnicle's sobriquet) better be ready to pitch the game of his life tomorrow night, especially when he goes up against Roger Clemens in a stadium full of aroused Yankee fans.

Pedro's going into the Hall of Fame, IMO. But if he pulls through tomorrow and leads Boston into the Series, this burnishes his legend and eases a bit of the taint his rep's acquired in this series.

DeltaSigStan 10-15-2003 08:29 PM

Is game 7 at the Bronx or Fenway?

hate to disappoint you :p but i'm not a FIB. I'm from the Indiana side of chicago! - but my parents were born and raised there!!

And as wonderful as Pabst Blue Ribbon is - Old Style is the offical beer of the Cubs :)

The1calledTKE 10-15-2003 08:38 PM

Boston wins!! So much for the Yanks in 6. I hope Grady changes his mind and puts wakefield in for game 7. If Pedro pitches it should be interesting!!!

This is it folks... count your beads! :)

Will the Cubbies pull off a miracle in Wrigleyville? Or will the Bosox continue on their course to reverse the Curse of the Bambino?

NLCS Game 7 on right now, ALCS game 7 tomorrow!

KSigkid 10-15-2003 08:48 PM

Game 7...I hope my team could pull it out.

Tomorrow will be one for the ages though - Pedro vs Roger, game 7, Yanks/Sox...doesn't get much better.

as for cubbies....my fingers are crossed and i'll jump in in a few innings. i watched all last night and had my heart broken.
