I'm so glad they finally have this guy! :D
I feel so bad for the families though. I pray that they can get through this horrible time. Pam Kinamore's mother said on the news last night that the cops DID NOT call her and tell her that he had been caught. She also said that she felt the reason why they didn't tell her is because she has been so outspoken about the police. I don't blame her one bit. Her daughter was murdered! She has every right to be upset and accuse the police of doing a pi$$ poor job!! I would be doing the same if I was in her position! You know, every thing happens for a reason and the Lord has a funny way of working things out. Remember when the police wouldn't ask for help and wouldn't speak to the guys who had studied serial killers because they wanted to get the credit for capturing this guy?? Well, look who got the credit....the Atlanta police!!! That just goes to show you that it doesn't pay to be greedy. |
Yeah, I'm really happy the BRPD didn't catch him - they all wanted the glory so badly that it got in the way of the investigation. Yay for Atlanta PD!

Public safety suffers because agencies cannot work together. What a surprise. Glad I'm not under the illusion that law enforcement actually serves and protects.
|
I am one of those people who fully support the police and appreciate the risks they take just stopping a car to check a license. It isn't the individuals, it's the department heads that
set the tone of the "attitudes" we see in their work ethics. After all, it WAS good old detective work and a nose for crime that solved this case. Ieyoub described the detective as a bloodhound-able to sniff out the clues. Then, there's our criminal system. Why he was NOT in jail for his past crimes is just as important a question as why they didn't share information. This man should have been locked up years ago. It's the ability to "plea bargain" that adds to the criminals we have walking around. The sad truth is, there will always be a Jefrey Dammer, a "Son of Sam" , Malvo or Lee somewhere in our midst. What seems to be consistent is the fact that these maniacs didn't start out committing horrendous acts, they escalated. At what point do we recognize them for what they are-demons? At what point do be say rehabilitation is not a possibility? We need tougher penalties for crimes against mankind, be it assault, rape or murder. Also, lets quit playing "Let's Make a Deal" with miscreants! |

I just wanted to post my thoughts on the law enforcement here in good ol' Baton Rouge. (Given the track record of this fine state, I can't say I'm suprised, though) To sum it up in a few words:
THEY SUCK!!! I am so angry! The nerve of the police department to hold a press confrence to say "thanks" to all the departments for helping solve the case. Do you know which department was left OFF the list???? The Attorney General's office who swabbed Derrick Lee!!!! Also, they haven't kept the lines of communication open with the families of the victims. Pam Kinamore's mother found out through the news that her daughter's murderer was caught, and Mary Anne Fowler's son found out also through the news that the police were trying to link Derrick Lee to his mother's disappearance. These people have suffered enough, don't you think the police owe them the courtesy of keeping them informed on the case??? Also, on the news last night, a girl called the tipline after Murry Pace's murder and said that she saw a black man (fitting the description of who we now know as Derrick Lee) in the parking lot of the Sharlo townhomes. He was masterbating and she told the police everything, but was told that he was probablly just a "peeping tom" and that the police were looking for a white man for the serial killer, not a black man. Last, but certainly not least, this guy had many prior encounters with the law. Instead of wasting money on swabbing over 1 thousand white men in the BR area, why didn't they check prior guys who had already been arrested???? Also, the police stated that when they went to get his DNA, his demeanor changed from polite to "very aggitated". Why would you take someone's DNA who was aggitated and then not follow them??? How could they let him get away??? As soon as the law enforcement in this town starts doing their job correctly, I will give them all the praise they deserve, but until then, I am sickend that those people are supposed to be protecting me. |
Your anger and the anger of the parents is justified! Juniorgrrl was saying the same things about the BRPD several posts back.
In our paper, the mother said she felt she wasn't informed due to her speaking out, critical of the dept. The facts that you noted nauseate me. I cannot beLIEVE they wouldn't follow up on those reports!!! They need to get rid of the chief and as the Mayor holds great influence, maybe HIS position should be called into question as well. What is soooooo incredible is that THIS type of circus took place in our state's capitol!!! I am literally sick! Those poor, poor parents. I think I'd have to be put away, because I don't think I could ever have peace. Every person involved in this animal's criminal history of leniency should have to face the parents and visit the graves of those young women. |
Just to add fuel to the fire...
I heard on the news that the parents didn't learn from the Task Force or any authorities that their daughters had been sexually assulted - they heard it on the evening news like the rest of us! |
Adding more fuel to the fire......
They were sitting on a gold mine and couldn't see beyond their own noses. http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/...rlier001.shtml this could have been solved last summer!!! Pam Kinamore, Dene Colomb and Carrie Yoder would still be alive. :( |

Hi Sis,
Did you miss that day when Mom taught us "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?" :D Just kidding, I have no room to talk, lol. When you sense an injustice, it needs to be pointed out. I've been away from this thread for awhile (or what is awhile to me) to collect my thoughts. I am totally outraged! I think John Pritchett (Mari Ann Fowler's son) said it best when he said that the task force got their feelings hurt from the criticism they recieved and that the TF needed to stand in their place to realize what real pain feels like. I am just so disappointed about the lack of professionalism shown by this task force. The Yoder family, who has fully supported and cooperated and to this day publicly supports the task force did not even receive a phone call when the suspect was found!! The TF should be grateful to this family, after all it was their daughter whose evidence brought up the red flag to Derrick Lee. Bless her soul for holding on to the DNA after such a horrible murder. Sickening that a bone was found outside Lee's old residence. 'Bone' found in driveway dig WBRZ staff report Members of the East Feliciana Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police have dug up the driveway at the former residence of Cassandra Green, serial killer suspect Derrick Lee's ex-girlfriend, and uncovered a bone in a spot found by cadaver-sniffing dogs. They are awaiting members from the Lousiana State Crime Lab and Mary Mannheim from FACES Lab, who will determine whether the bone is human. Sheriff Austin Daniels says a witness saw Lee pouring slab two days after the 1998 disappearance of Randi Mebreuer. Mebreuer lived one street over from the 1992 murder victim Connie Warner. Lt. David McDavid of the Zachary Police Depart said that Derrick Todd Lee was their prime suspect in the abduction of Mebreuer and the murder of Warner. Investigators have removed the slab, and are sifting through the earth with their hands. ************************************* All the women of Louisiana and God knows what other states were totally let down by this system. Most of all, the victims and their families. We were all put in danger by too many mistakes made by many people that we had faith in. I am still so in shock how they didn't suspect this man or at least follow up on him. Flashback to 1992 Zachary, a relatively sleepy town, two women murdered in their homes and another violently attacked in a graveyard. The prime suspect in all these cases? Derrick Lee! The last young girl picked Lee out of a lineup as the one who attacked her and would have killed her had he not been scared off. The time had run out for him to be charged on attempted murder. :( He also was found and charged for entering a home in the same Zachary neighborhood. All these things happend just blocks from each other! The TF should have looked him up and said, that is odd, for a man that lives in st. francisville to be a prime suspect what is he doing in zachary? I wonder where else he has worked? They would have seen the Lafayette connection and that he owned a chevy truck. DNA was left at Mebrurer's crime scene, why wasn't this compared earlier? I am not for one minute suggesting that the tf didn't work hard or that they didn't want this murderer off our streets just as much as we did. However, they knew they were not trained to catch a serial killer or else the criticism would not have effected them so much if they truly felt that they were doing all they could. ***************************** Lee confessed to Atlanta authorities that he killed a woman and buried her underneath a concrete slab. They have only found animal bones and a silver bracelet. That was only one of the many houses he was known to live in. Gotta love it, Lee's attorney says he is "frightened" Give me a freaking break! He has no idea what that is like. I hope he gets more than just frightened in jail with the other prisoners, if ya know what I mean. I wonder if he is in an isolated cell? His attorney's partner feels that Lee would receive a fair trial in EBR Parish because citizens here know the reputation of the tf. I don't think that has anything to do with it. First of all, they were not the ones who caught him. Anyway, there is not only DNA evidence that links him, there is other evidence- or so they say. That bugs me about Murray Pace's neighbor not reporting the naked man outside until after Pace was murdered. Maybe that is why they didn't follow up as quickly because they thought she may be lying. Still no excuse. |
Quote:
Also, I agree, he has absoulutely NO IDEA what being frightened means! I hope he is haunted for the rest of his life (however long that may be) by the thought of what horrible things he has done. I read an article today on the news website that the police are digging at his former home in St. Francisville. They got premission from his ex-wife who is in Chicago. I hope that he comes clean and confesses all that he has done so that the families who don't know where their loved ones' bodies are will have some kind of closure. They have suffered enough already. |

sorry |
You don't have to apologize, no offense taken.
I heard it from the Yoder family themselves that they were not contacted by the task force. Please show me what statements are "full of ignorance." You can PM me if you want, I'm not trying to be rude. However, I still stand by what I originally posted. |
Keep in mind that those of us in South LA have been bombarded by this on a daily basis and have seen the incompetence of the task force come out as the case has unfolded.
The city of Zachary has had Lee as a suspect in its 2 unsolved murders for years. The TF didn't want their help. At least 2 other women died because they were too full of themselves. I have a friend that's in the BR news media, doing crime reporting, and she has told me personally (not in a news report) that the TF was all a front; that none of the agencies wanted to work together because they all wanted to be the ones who caught the SK I'm so very happy that they weren't really the ones who caught them. Yay for the Zachary PD, Atlanta PD, and everyone else who helped catch this guy. |
Excuse me but I live in Baton Rouge now, I've experienced everything y'all have... I just think what y'all are saying is very unfair, It's not like they didn't try... I suppose you think you could have done a better job??? You don't know everything that was going on. There was probably stuff they couldn't put out there because it could mess up everything. I agree that not calling the Yoder family is horrible, but I'm sure it wasn't done in spite or even on porpose. Can you imagine how hectic everything was in those few hours?? I can. Sure, there were mistakes made but I just think calling the Task Force a complete failure is uncalled for.
|
No, I'm sure that I could not have done a better job. If I were in their shoes, I would have found someone who could. Being a great homicide detective (as most of them were) and being able to catch a serial killer are two totally different things. ALso, there were plenty of things that they knew that the general public didn't. They have known for awhile that he was African-American and didn't release that info. because they didn't want him to feel they were on to him.
For the record, I don't feel that the task force is a complete failure and I never intended to give that impression. I tried to point that out in many of my earlier posts. As for the Yoder family, I just can't let it go. Each of the known victims families had their own tf representative assigned to them that was supposed to keep them up to date. This was at least HOURS (maybe even a day, I don't remember) after Lee had been caught and no word from the tf. The same with all of the other families. For a tf that is committed to the victims and their families, I think they owe them the common courtesy of a personal phone call and not hearing about it from the media. Because like you said, the media isn't always right and the last thing the families of the victims need is to be let down any more. |
Don't you think those statements are a little harsh and full of ignorance??
Well, I for one don't! Actually, your comments are the ones that seem rather "harsh." But then, I've always considered using the term "ignorant" to describe something another person feels or thinks as rude and insensitive. There were a million other ways to put forth your opinion... edited-and no, I couldn't do a better job. I would have the humility to ask for more help. |
Yeah, I'm rude and insensitive, but apparently ya'll are as well. I guess you haven't heard of the phrase "devil's advocate", take that one back to your swamp...
|
ouch.
i'm a pacifist. i'm only good at arguing with my boyfriend! |
Did anyone see Primetime with Dianne Sawyer Thurs. night? It is quite the talk of the town around here. Overall, I'm supportive of the show. However, I don't agree with the details of many of the murders being publicized. I thought they went into details that were unnecessary. Just wondering if anyone saw it.
Also, a gold wedding band was supposedly found at Murray Pace's townhome. When Lee was arrested, he was not wearing a wedding band, only a watch. I'm wondering if this is because he was posing as single or if he really lost it and did not replace it? FYI, the woman who had the idea to link the two cases together (Green and Pace) was the coroner, Louis Catalde's wife. |
I saw it - it was great! While macabre, it was nice to get some more details about the murders - I always felt like I was so in the dark about it all - it gives me some "closure' to it all, if you will.
|
I found this quote from a Laf. paper:
"And Lee is a suspect in at least six other unsolved homicides of women in the Baton Rouge area, authorities said." I wonder who they are talking about, why would they single out six of so many? I'm assuming Christine Moore, Geralynn DeSoto of Addis, and Randi Mebruer & Connie Warner of Zachary. Who else? Eugenie Boisfontane and Hardee Schmitt? I wonder what they aren't telling us about what evidence they have. In the DeSoto case- I believe a shoe print was found that is recently been examined again. |
A new DNA test officially links Lee to another victim, Geralyn Barr DeSoto. Her family, our at least her aunt, has felt that the serial killer was responsible all along. Her phone was also taken. She was described as smart, athletic and trusting. She had just signed up for Grad School at LSU when she was murdered. Like Pace, she had graduated high school a year early.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/...addis001.shtml You'll probably recogize Mike Cazes as the man in the Fowler investigation. |
Now that they have him, I realy want to know WHY! What was his thinking and what was behind his "selection" process. Morbid maybe, but maybe we could learn something beyond the usual catch phrase-he had a troubled childhood.
Can a sane person ever really understand insanity? |
Quote:
I don't think so. I can't even begin to imagine what was going through his head when he was killing those women. I also want to know why???? Why did he pick them? Was it pre-meditated, did they somehow cross paths with him and make him mad, or were they just in the wrong place at the wrong time? He seemed to be all over south Louisiana, in Baton Rouge and the surrounding smaller towns like Lafayette, Zachary, and Addis. How many more are there that we don't know of??? I hope he admits to all the murders he has committed. Also--and yet another "Oops" from the good ol' BR PD.... Why wasn't the murder of the young girl in Addis checked earlier??? She was murdered more than a year ago, and we just recently found out that her murder was connected???? WHAT??? |
I have a feeling that we'll be linking a ton of unsolved murders in the coming months. Mari Ann Fowler's fingernails left at the scene of the attack are being examined by the same new DNA test that linked DeSoto and Lee.
At first I thought that there had to be at least one other serial killer- the one we know of, then the one who killed the BR joggers- Schmitt and Boisfontane. Then the killer who killed the prostitutes. However, I just found an article on one prostitue, Lillian Robinson. Is it just me, or were these deaths not as publicized as someone with a pretty face who would make a better story. I would speculate that there are at least a dozen connected to Lee (If Lee is truly our SK). The six that we now know of, plus Christine Moore, Randi Mebruer, Connie Warner, Mari Ann Fowler. ************************************************** * St. Martin officials look for tie between unsolved case, serial killer WBRZ staff report The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office has shared evidence with the serial killer task force which may link an unsolved murder to that of the five confirmed victims of the killer. Sheriff Michael Patin said similarities in the cases led his office to suspect that Lillian Robinson may have been killed by the same man. Robinson's nude body was found three years ago near Whiskey Bay just like two other confirmed serial killer victims. Robinson disappeared from Baton Rouge's Melrose East neighborhood in January 2000 and a month later, a fisherman discovered her badly decomposed body 4 miles west of Whiskey Bay. No DNA evidence is available in the case, but St. Martin chief of detectives Major Butch Dupuis said the similar profile to where she was found, she was nude and the type of death -- the cause of death is similar to the other ones. It's something that we definitely want to look at and present. Robinson is among several Baton Rouge prostitutes whose murders have been unsolved. Robinson's family feels that she may have made an easy target for the serial killer in the start. We believe that the guy started out with easy targets and it got too easy for him, said Pat Dawson, Robinson's sister. And I think he felt like he needed to be challenged a little bit more, so he started targeting women that would not agree to just go with him. Baton Rouge Police Chief Pat Englade confirmed that the serial killer task force detectives are looking Robinson's case and that they feel her death is not connected to the other prostitute murders. |
Well, ThetaLove, I do have to say that I am very proud of you for keeping us all informed on the new happenings of the case.
I also have a comment for "Megerts". I wanted to give it some time and let the steam blow over before I replied to her ridiculous posts. I hope she saw the Primetime interview on Thurs. June 12 with Dianne Sawyer. The woman she was interviewing stated that the so called "Task Force" made many, many mistakes. She also said that after each murder, she flew down to Baton Rouge, and offered to help the Task Force, and they WOULD NOT |
con't from above:
speak to her. I, for one, (and I know that I am NOT the only person who feels this way) think this is absurd!!! She listed (and it wasn't a short list by the way) all the mistakes that the Task Force made. I hope Mergets got a chance to see that interview. Also, If she did see the interview, I wonder how it feels to have a "TEXAS-SIZED FOOT IN HER MOUTH!!!!" :p |
Hi everyone!! Did anyone hear that Derek Todd Lee has to have surgery on his heart? I heard that from a friend of mine who said they heard it on the radio this morning. I'm going to try to find an article on it.
|
I agree with EVERYTHING you said !!!
BTW-maybe I should have posted this in the rush thread, but since BR is reading this... I have two little friends who want to go through rush. They decided late...like THIS WEEK!!! I gave them some DG, DZ, Theta. DZ and Pi Phi and KKG names for recs. Do you think they will be OK??? They are a bit out of the loop though GPA and activities-honors really high. I know they recommended all be in by July 1st. These are sweeties, but they want me to tell them if they are going to be hurt. I told them not by some...maybe by others. What is your opinion??? ( I find it impossible to lie and I know they want reality.) |
Hmm, tough quesion JAM. You're right when you say hurt by some, not by others. I for one think that some LSU sororities put too much emphasis on recs. (Or so it seems.) I've been out of the other side of rush for a year, but I remember the girls who didn't have recs or had recs turned in late, seemed to be cut from more sororities. I don't know if that was related to not knowing alums and therefore the rec that they eventually got was not as strong as another girls rec or if they're were different factors that played into that. However, they should still have a great rush!
As for DTL, at first I thought it was a rumor. Imagine that, a rumor in BR about the SK. Here's a link, these courttv chatters know everything! http://board1.courttv.com/showthread...threadid=70747 |
It was in the paper this morning...
I know this is going to sound cold and harsh, but PRIOR to our state spending thousands on this animal's "health plan", I would like to see if he gets the death penalty. Good enough reason, IMO, for a speedy trial. Maybe he will just drop over and save the taxpayer some money and the family of the victims some heartache. One problem with that however would be the possibility of not knowing who all he murdered. |
Just as anyone with a little common sense suspected, DTL is linked to the Randi Mebrurer case. His semen was found at the scene of the crime. How long did it take to link all this?? He was the number ONE suspect in that case from day one!!! She was a nurse like Gina Green and the lady attacked (attempted rape and murder) in Breaux Bridge. Here are some interesting links, especially the story of the Breaux Bridge woman who was attacked, it is detailed.
http://2theadvocate.com/stories/0116...nurse002.shtml http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=1641131 http://2theadvocate.com/livepages4/381.shtml http://2theadvocate.com/livepages4/383.shtml This is now, the seventh murder!!! They finally figured out we had a serial killer after linking only two murders!!! Anyone bet Connie Warner will be linked eventually? FYI, that was 1992!!!! DTL told a source that Randi's body would never be found. In the MariAnn Fowler case, cell phone records indicate DTL was within miles of the scene of the crime. |
I love Fox News (usually)
especially the last paragraph, at least they get their facts straight. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,111167,00.html It also made CNN. I was so disgusted when I saw the news this afternoon. I just wanted to cry and I felt sick all at the same time. I feel so bad for the families who wil never know for sure. Like Christine Moore, whose death could have NEVER been linked to the same animal who murdered Pace and Green. After all, we were dealing with a white serial killer. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! |
Who knows how many women are really victims of this man.
I can't help but think some of these deaths could have been prevented if , IF... Too many "ifs". What I wish is this animal would accept his fate and find one speck of decency and confess about all his victims. Surely he remembers each one, unless it unravels into a situation like they have in Canada. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Canadian police have discovered the remains of nine more women on the property of alleged serial killer Robert Pickton - already accused of murdering 22 missing prostitutes. The latest discovery may mean one man is responsible for just under half of the 65 missing women in and around Vancouve. However, finding more bodies around the pig farmer's property has not yet led to new charges. Police said they still do not know the names of three of the nine people because their DNA does not match any of the names on the police's official list of missing women. http://www.mobmagazine.com/manageart...p?C=130&A=6855 |
How messed up is it that they delayed his trial??
I can't even imagine how hard that must make it for the families of the vicitims... But in better news, at least they finally caught the other South Louisiana Serial Killer... What a bunch of sickos |
They CAUGHT him!!!! YEAH! Thanks for posting it.
