The Avs have the better first four or five players, but I hope that the Sharks can counter with their depth. And I heard that Roy is only 5 and 5 in game 7 matches...so the Avs are not unbeatable by a long shot. Teemu Selanne HAS to step up tomorrow night-he has to show that the trade the Sharks made for him was worth it. He cannot be outplayed by Forsberg again! Owen, Vinnie, Marco and Adam have to come up big. Mike Ricci is gonna bring it on, but they got to support him. It will not be easy, but they can do it, I hope! As for the matchup against the Red Wings, either SJ or Colorado has to bring everything against a well rested Wings team. I think that the Sharks can play with the Wings, as long as they start making penalty shots!

LXAAlum 05-14-2002 08:35 PM

Roy is 5-5, but he is 3-0 in game 7's since last year (LA, NJ, LA (Again!))...

this has been the most bizarre series, for both teams - one game, they play their best hockey, the next, something seems to be lacking - that's true for both teams....

I'm still convinced (unfortunately) that it really doesn't matter who wins the series - Detroit has had and will have several more days to rest and heal before facing whoever comes out of the semis....

BTW - 1-0 right now, Toronto over Ottowa, game 7, 2nd period....sigh....I'd like to see Ottowa move on...

Thrillhouse 05-14-2002 09:13 PM

Whoever wins tomorrow night I hope can beat Detroit. I think Colorado will win though, they just have too much talent.

Lil g, I agree about what you said about the sj-det matchup.

In the east, Ottawa/Toronto should easily beat Carolina.

LeslieAGD 05-14-2002 10:48 PM

I'm disappointed that Toronto won, but hopefully Carolina will beat them. Tomorrow night's game should be interesting...

Siobhan 05-14-2002 11:16 PM

F#$K!!! I've been subjucted to rooting for TO. The Leafs better knock off Carolina.

Hope Lil' G is holding up..

Ahh.... sweet.....

Why is that everyone out west is against TO?

I just got in from the party on Yonge St..... it's getting closer and closer to the atmosphere around the Gold game every day now.

However, the Leafs are hurting... so the next series should prove intresting.

Not everyone out West is anti-Toronto. I am cheering on the Leafs and I was born and raised in Vancouver! :D
One thing that I regret is that we won't see the Leafs play against Les Habitants.
Toronto is a great city; lots of stuff to see and do there!
I just pretend that The Beaches is the ocean..... ;)
Great to talk to you when I was there, gphi2k!!

"Rooting for", huh? As a cautionary, don't say "I am rooting for such and such team" when in Australia...."rooting" and "to root" is slang for f**king. LMAO. So if you're "rooting" for a team, you will suddenly become very very popular. LOL

LOL - me a leafs groupie I would never live that down ;)

Thrillhouse 05-15-2002 01:48 AM

Yeah it would be quite embarrassing for Toronto to lose to Carolina. I would like to see Carolina win although a Toronto-Detroit match-up would be a great original 6 matchup.

shadokat 05-15-2002 02:08 PM

At least you all didn't have a power outage for much of the Toronto/Ottawa game. Thankfully, with about 9 minutes left in the third, the power came on, and I got to see the end. Man, Toronto is banged up, but that was a great comeback :) Woo, now I just need Colorado to win!! GO AVS!

gphi2k2 05-15-2002 05:11 PM

NEVER DOUBTED IT

This is actually gphi2k but I changed the dang e-mail address in my profile, hotmail erased the e-mail gc sent me so I wasn't able to reactivate. I've e-mailed Mr. Hammell three times but apprantly he's gone awol. So I'm gphi2k2 until things get sorted out.

That being said...well, we all know what I'M gonna say. YAY LEAFS!!!!!!!!! 3-0. Shut out. hehe. Siobohn said we wouldn't win because we're 'way too injured.' Makes it so much more sweet that our St. John's Maple Leafs were able to take the Sens. Last night's game was like taking candy from a baby :p .

Toronto was nuts last night. THOUSANDS of people partying on Yonge street, people honking everywhere. Toronto is such an AMAZING city, even though every other Canadian on this website(save for Cutiepie 2000) seems to have an inferiority complex. Stop bashing my city and stop bashing my team. We've proved ourselves worthy. So stop the slamming and get on the bandwagon cause we're taking it all the way.

Hey, Lil_G, aren't you a Toronto fan now???

GO LEAFS GO!!!

Thrillhouse 05-16-2002 12:22 AM

Wow..... great game 7 but I guess Detroit will have a wee bit of a challenge now;)

TIME TO BRING THE CUP HOME!!!!!!

Hey All,

As you can see from my nickname I AM CANADIAN-SO very proud of that fact! Even though I go to school in Ottawa and so is my sorority-XI Delta Theta, I AM A LEAFS FAN! Because i'm from Peterborough which is close to Toronto. I have a few things to say:

1. ITS TIME TO BRING THE CUP BACK WHERE IT BELONGS! Sorry but its Canada's year with OUR game and it deserves to come home so GO LEAFS GO!

2. NO booing to any country. I think a lot of people mock Canada and yes we mock Americans because we feel hurt and overlooked but DONT MESS WITH US! Its time to show some RESPECT. Please, especially after what happened in Afghanastan.

3. No flag burning is right and most Canadians do NOT do that or place flags on dressing room floors. If they do its just a bunch of jackasses.

4. DOn CHerry is HILARIOUS. I dont care what anyone says but he is the truth whether you agree or not.

SO GO LEAFS GO! GO CANADA GO!
And when all said and done-its just a game but although it means so much to my country!

p.s As anyone seen the Canadian commericals-Hey where is your pet Beaver and Hey? Do you know Glen? Yeah he works in an office, plays hockey and says eh a lot? Oh Office Glen? yeah hes dead! LOVE THOSE COMMERICALS

Hey. I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader.
And I don't live in an igloo, or eat blubber, or own a dogsled.

And I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada, although I'm certain they're really, really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not a President.

I speak English and French, NOT American. and I pronounce it 'ABOUT', NOT 'A BOOT'.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack. I believe in peace keeping, NOT policing. DIVERSITY, NOT assimilation, AND THAT THE BEAVER IS A TRULY PROUD AND NOBLE ANIMAL.

A TOQUE IS A HAT, A CHESTERFIELD IS A COUCH, AND IT IS PRONOUCED 'ZED' NOT 'ZEE', 'ZED'!!!

CANADA IS THE SECOND LARGEST LANDMASS! THE FIRST NATION OF HOCKEY! AND THE BEST PART OF NORTH AMERICA!

MY NAME IS JOE!! AND I AM CANADIAN!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

What??? every other Canadian has an inferiority complex.... I'm hurt. I just did feel a need to defend the Leafs, afterall they can and did do a great job of that themselves.

LXAAlum 05-16-2002 12:25 PM

RACooper - well, here's to hoping you see an Avs/Toronto finals - that would be some GREAT hockey - might you be up for a brotherly wager IF that is the case?

As much as I am an Avs fan, I'm not so confident about our chances vs. the Wings - if the Wings/Blues had gone longer than 5, then I'd be very upbeat - this will be a great series. Plus, the BIG question right now is how is Forsbergs wrist - was that just a stinger, or did some serious damage get done?

Detroit/Toronto would also be a good finals - two original six teams......but, I want the Avs to move on again....6 times in 7 years they have gone to the conference finals - what a record!

Siobhan 05-16-2002 12:42 PM

Dang - I so wanted to see San Jose win - but good for them for having such an awesome year.

I really hope TO knocks off Carolina - the cup has been away from home far too long (the Habs 93, and my beloved Canucks almost did it in 94...) - and would be extra cool with brining back the olympic golds in hockey this year. Of course if TO makes it though Carolina they still have to face the Avs or Wings... In the west I'm going for the Avs (I eant to say root nut after what CutiePie pointed out I thought I'd refrain LOL - even though Burnaby Joe is awesome ;)).

Thrillhouse 05-16-2002 12:43 PM

The avs-wings! This series should easily go to the wings but Roy might have something to say about that.

And you mean there is another series out east? They should make that series the 3rd place game since both teams couldn't beat the kings much less detroit or the avalanche.

Man I love that add.

Also the next time someone asks me do you so and so from Canada I am so using the office Glen line. LOL

gphi2k2 05-16-2002 03:50 PM

I hope lil_g is okay!!!

Wow, when the sens were still in contention you couldn't get lil_g to shut up. Now all the sudden he's fallen off the face of the earth. Has anyone heard from him? Is he okay? I'm getting concerned!

Chin up lil! The cup will still come back to Ontario. It will just be us carrying it.

Now, I'm going to get my Leaf's toque, go make sure my huskies are garding the sleigh outside my igloo, then I'm gonna put my feet up on the ottomon, cuddle with my pet beaver, and drink some Blue.

GO LEAFS GO!!!

Thrillhouse 05-16-2002 07:13 PM

The cup will come to ontario when guys like Steve Yzerman bring it up there for show and tell.

One more note...I saw a sign in the crowd that said:

Canada can have the gold, Carolina wants the cup.

Since when did Carolina want the cup, last week? Seems like the bandwagon in Raleigh is overflowing.

LeslieAGD 05-16-2002 07:13 PM

While I didn't really care who came out of the Avs/Sharks game, I knew that if the Avs won, all the press would want to talk about is "The Battle of the Goaltenders"...and they're already starting.

LXAAlum 05-16-2002 07:38 PM

LeslieAGD - they've also started dredging up the Lemiuex/Draper incident - sigh.....that is such old news.....

I don't get the goalie controversy - Roy or Hasek: who is better? In the Stanley Cup playoffs - there is no comparison yet....not until Hasek actually gets his name on one....this might be the year for that however....we shall see.

phikappapsiman 05-17-2002 01:52 AM

Damn!!! My poor Sharks didn't do it this year:( I am SO SAD!!! But I have to root for the hated Detroit Red Wings-I hate the Avs, and by the way, didn't Canada already win the gold medal in Men's AND Women's hockey at the Olympics this year??? They already have enough-GO USA!!!! I really don't care who at this point, just GO USA!!!:D

LOL!!!! That is SO funny -I love it!!! Especially the line, "...Oh, you're from Canada. Do you know so-and-so?" "What, you don't? I thought that ALL Canadians knew one another!"

Also, "What do you guys speak up there? Canadian?

One of my favorite movie soundtracks is "South Park-Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" because of the song "Blame Canada"-I laugh every time I hear that!

But this American LOVES Canada-hey some of my best buddies are from there, and you guys rock! (Especially with the currency exchange!)

I might be up for a wager of sorts... after all I'm owed a good time at many chapters following a wager made about the gold medal game... it was hard being the olny Canadian in my class at the last regional conference ;)

LXAAlum 05-17-2002 03:09 PM

Well, I'm open for suggestions - are you coming to Denver for the GA this summer? I'll be there (I live an hour away) - we could work something out around a beverage or meal wager that way....ZAX

RACooper 05-17-2002 05:20 PM

I'm trying to make it to Dencer for the GA..... so a food or beverage wager might be in order :)

LeslieAGD 05-18-2002 07:22 PM

Celebrate good times, c'mon on! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/dance.gif

Yeah Red Wings! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/yelclap.gif

It was a really good game...and I was so happy to see Mac get his first ever career hat trick. This series is far from over, but I just hope they come out with the same energy they had in the third. My gut instinct is Wings in six (2-1-1-1-1), but we'll see. Let the octopi fly high!!! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rotwerd.gif

Thrillhouse 05-20-2002 12:15 AM

Great game today in the east semis. I almost want to see an original six final the more I watch but we shall see. If the wings take game two, that series is over.

I am starting to take a lot of crap everywhere for being a wings fan for about 10 years than getting disgusted with them.

LeslieAGD 05-20-2002 10:12 PM

Well, that was a disappointing overtime goal, but a great game overall. I was just happy to see Maltby score! Can we have goal #3 officially credited to Patrick "Wah"? That was classic!

Thrillhouse 05-21-2002 12:15 AM

Could it be that the 2002 stanley cup champions (oops getting ahead of myself) could unravel and lose this series? I sure hope so, the wings outplayed colorado yet lost at home no less.

LeslieAGD 05-21-2002 06:44 AM

Ex Greek, I don't understand how you could have been a fan for ten years and then just drop your team. You talk about bandwagon fans, but you only stuck with them when they were playing well so what kind of fan does that make you?

It has been hard but I have had it. I don't like the yankees much and thats what the wings have turned into. They are making hockey into a joke even though luckily the devils and avalanche have been winning. Illitch has been kind enough to open up his checkbook to get whoever he wants the past 8 years. The fact that almost everyone is a fan since 97 makes me sick. Its not the kind of fan following that canadien fans have for their teams, its called liking the team of the moment. Most people don't even know who they played in 95 western confrerence finals and don't understand the chicago-detroit rivalry. It's like hello, back in the day, the wings and blackhawks were THE rivalry for the wings. Now I am a very educated hockey fan but not a fan of any particular team.

The wings weren't playing well in 92 when I think they got swepted by Chicago that year. Only liking the team when they have played well? Tell me...when did you start being a fan?

LeslieAGD 05-21-2002 10:27 PM

Ex Greek: People with your attitude drive me nuts. As I said before, I started watching hockey at 13 (1993). I can't control the fact that I started watching as they were getting to be a better team. Just because people begin watching when a team is popular, it doesn't make them a bandwagon fan...they are only a bandwagon fan if they could care less about the team when they're loosing. The Wings have a very big following (not only in MI, but all over). Are some of these people bandwagon fans? Yes, I'm sure some of them are, but the Wings don't have a claim on BW fans. You also b*tch about the fact that the Wings have only won two Stanley Cups since 1994, but so have the Avs and they're the number two team. The Avs have a big budget and a pretty padded team...why aren't you ripping on them? Why is all the abuse heaped onto the Wings?

Side note: Yea Carolina :)

Thrillhouse 05-21-2002 10:41 PM

This is what I was replying to:

The avalanche are stacked much like the braves, kings (nba), etc. Not the best team but pretty close. The avalanche have a ton of homegrown talent so they haven't needed to go out and spend quite as much as the wings have. The avs were the better team probably once since they got their team in 96 and that was last year.

I think the NHL needs to dramatically change how they do things. Maybe they should have a salary cap or something but there are about eight teams tops that have a chance at any good free aganets. The wings are tops, followed by the avs, than about 6 teams follow them than there are the rest of the teams. I put the wings tops because of how hull, robitaille, and hasek all jumped at the chance toplay there. The wings do have it made....Hasek was sold on the fact that the wings were gunning for the win.

I still have watched the wings nearly every game in the playoffs. Think of the fans in Major League Baseball who criticize their team constantly yet still go to every game.

Side note, that was cool that Carolina beat Toronto on the road. The canes going to the cup finals would be like washington going a few years back. I could see the wings scoring 5 on Irbe in a 4 game sweep.

For some reason, it seems as though we're saying the same thing, yet still arguing. It's not as the the Wings can be blamed for players wanting to play here. As you said, look at Hasek...he could have been making more in St. Louis but he wanted to be here for the Cup. It's not always money, it's reputation too.

I think a lot of people underestimate Carolina. Yeah, they'd most likely go down against the Wings or Avs, but I think they'd put up more of a fight that Washington did. I like watching them play. :)

Actually a lot of the radio people today were saying the wings were due tonight. When your scrubs on your team are Brett Hull and Robitaille, you know something is up.

I agree with Bill Clement last night too...this does nothing to tarnish Roy's legacy at all. Farve had 6 int's last year in one playoff game, things happen. Roy never had to play a team like this years wings team before and a job well done for him to stand up and single handidly keep the avs in it for as long as they were. I have always been a Roy fan so I had to defend him:)

When I said "No one could have predicted a game seven like this," I meant that no one could have anticipated a 7-0 win for the Wings. I had faith that my team was going to win, but a seven goal shutout even had me watching utterly amazed.

I am so happy I don't have to hear about Roy and Foresberg every five seconds anymore! Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye! Enjoy golf season...we'll send you a postcard of us with the cup. :)

Yeah, the best team won, with a game like that what did they do...slack off the first 5 games of the series? I kept telling everyone before the game last night that the series should have been long done.....also Leslie who do you think the wings will go after next year?

I heard if Hasek retires, they'll do anything they can to get CUJO from toronto. Fedorov is a free agent and yzerman could retire on top. They could have another spending spree in the offseason.
