Hi,
Were you an Auburn Tri Delta? Good luck to your daughter! Keeping her in my prayers, too! :-)

Okay, skit round is over and I believe they're now submitting their next rankings.

Does this remind anyone else of The Bachelor just a little bit? As I've filled in my sister about all of this we were remarking we couldn't believe there wasn't a reality show about rushing at sec schools.

I don't know how the introverts handle this.

Good luck to all the moms and their daughters. I can only hope and pray that what everyone says is true - it all seems to work out for the best. However, when your daughter has stars in her eyes for one place, it puts a knot in my stomach.

Oh, Bid Day would be so much fun!

"Sunshine, will you accept this carnation from the Pi Beta Phis?"

"Rachel, will you accept this violet bouquet from the Sigma Kappas?"

"Bellalulu, will you accept this twine of ivy from the Alpha Phis?"

And so on...

Auburnmom23 08-14-2014 08:56 PM

No word from my daughter who is having dinner with her Pi Chi group. I went through "rush" without a Pi Chi many years ago...what an amazing invention they are. Pretty awesome to give up so much time to support our girls. Kudos and thank you!

DDDMomma 08-14-2014 09:22 PM

Good luck everyone! I hope everyone gets good news tomorrow!

There was an attempt to do this a few years ago. We talked about it on GC. Seems like it was an independent production group that was trying to get PNMs to sign on. Does anyone remember the details? The NPC and NPC groups would not lend their support to this kind of production, nor could I ever see them doing so.

Low D Flat 08-14-2014 10:13 PM

Our addiction to rush threads real and fictional shows what great TV it would be. I'd be taping that show on 3 different DVRs to make sure I never missed it! So you can't blame the producers for trying, even though it'll never happen.

Griffins&Quills 08-14-2014 11:17 PM

I'd watch it lol

DallasMom 08-14-2014 11:29 PM

Has anyone heard what quota might be? Just curious.

AGDee 08-14-2014 11:46 PM

RFM typically uses quota ranges and nobody knows what quota actually ended up being until bid day results are known. But, the number of women going to Pref divided by the number of chapters is typically pretty close.

Football Fan 08-15-2014 01:19 AM

Just a Guess...

Just guessing for 2014 ......perhaps 65-67. This is complete speculation as we have no idea at this time how many will attend preference ceremonies.

FuturePNMMom 08-15-2014 07:43 AM

I will be headed down to the "Loveliest Village" in just a few hours to spend the night with DD and help with Bid Day. It's been a highlight for me every year to be there and see the chapter's hard work pay off. It's true, the girls in the chapters are as nervous as the PNMs (but I agree that the moms are the most nervous of all!):).

Auburnmom23 08-15-2014 08:54 AM

Does anyone know when they get Pref invites today? I don't think the first party starts until 11:30 or so. I'm so curious, but I hate to wake her if she's grabbing a little extra sleep. She texted yesterday that she would happily cut off both her feet, so I'm assuming the full day in wedges was a bit of a challenge.

Auburnmom23 08-15-2014 09:14 AM

I can answer my own question as she contacted me...it's 11 AM. Torture!

Griffins&Quills 08-15-2014 09:16 AM

If she's wearing heels for pref, tell her to bring flip flops with her (if she can) so she can wear those in between rounds and isn't stuck in heels the whole time!

aualum 08-15-2014 09:16 AM

I believe that is correct - 11:30 am. They will meet with their groups prior to that. Sleep is so wonderful at that point and I imagine some new feet would be too! I remember so clearly our daughter saying her feet were broken.
Just tell her be happy she wasn't there back in the day when we wore heels and hose not only for recruitment but also football games. I am sure we added slips too to make sure that Alabama heat really stayed on our bodies. What were we thinking?

iamamom 08-15-2014 09:18 AM

How long is each party today? I can't believe this is the day we have to wait so much longer.

What time do they hand out bids tomorrow?

aualum 08-15-2014 09:48 AM

Parties go until 5:30 today and the AU Panhellenic site says bids are distributed in the Auburn Arena at 10 AM. You may not hear from your DD for awhile after with all the hoopla and going to the chapter room. AU Panhellenic usually posts the bid list very soon after they are released. I believe last year they had a link to it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram but I am not certain which.
Edit to add: I believe parties are 45 min each and their is time in between parties and also a break for lunch

OMG! You are so right! Heels and hose to football games in the heat! We had fun, but looking back I'm sure we were a hot mess! :)

AUmom14 08-15-2014 10:00 AM

Aaagh this day is dragging already! No news is good news at this point though.
My daughter reports that she has to relinquish her phone before her last pref party. She assures me that she will try to text me the pref invites at 11.

She told me last night that her pi chi has been writing her notes all week and how special she has felt through the process. The pi chis have been wonderful! :)

DDDMomma 08-15-2014 10:47 AM

The waiting combined with not sleeping is killing me!

DDDMomma 08-15-2014 12:28 PM

:)Well, my daughter has three for prefs...2 she likes and could see herself in, so that is a positive.

iamamom 08-15-2014 12:54 PM

D has 3 for prefs, she likes all 3 and is really torn between 2 of them in particular.

I found this morning to be the worst day of all for me and my nerves. I mean, it is about me right?

AUmom14 08-15-2014 01:02 PM

My daughter was asked back to two houses. She has a clear favorite. I am a bundle of nerves. Is it possible to be released from recruitment after the pref round or will she be getting a bid from one of them?

HQWest 08-15-2014 01:08 PM

If she goes to all the parties she was invited to and lists all her possible choices on her pref card - she will get a bid to one of them

Griffins&Quills 08-15-2014 01:11 PM

If she chooses to SIP (single-intentional preference) or suicide bid, it is very possible to not match. But, if she maximizes all her options (recommended) and writes down both groups on her MRABA (pref card), she is theoretically guaranteed a bid, barring outstanding circumstances (i.e. she got hauled off to jail for murder in the middle of a pref party)

Thank you! Whew, That is a load off my mind. She did not get asked to three prefs so I was not sure. She can see herself in either sorority so I am sure she will maximize her options. :D

AZTheta 08-15-2014 01:32 PM

^^^ it only takes ONE and you can only join ONE. So excited for your daughter! And you too.

Auburnmom23 08-15-2014 01:36 PM

My daughter received invites from her top 3 after Skits...she is feeling very lucky and grateful. She would be happy with any of them, although she has two she really, really loves. She said she isn't sure how to rank them, although I'm sure the parties today will help her make up her mind. I'm so happy for her (and for me...I can finally take a deep breath). My husband thinks it's all "fine", but he certainly is not feeling any anxiety. Absolutely unfair!

Griffins&Quills 08-15-2014 01:45 PM

Pref can definitely be a game changer

brittin 08-15-2014 02:08 PM

Sorry I haven't posted all week. It's been hard and I didn't want to say something stupid or jeopardize my daughters rush. Today she got her top three from Skit. She likes all three houses but has one clear favorite. She has really had fun this week. She has kept a clear head and everything in perspective. I think watching her roommate and friends melt down everyday over one thing or another has made her realize this is not life or death. She has had a great time and made some new friends which really is the goal here.

Auburnmom23 08-15-2014 02:28 PM

She sounds like a girl any of the three houses would be very lucky to have!

DeltaBetaBaby 08-15-2014 02:29 PM

Good, and don't apologize. We love hearing stories after the fact, but it's always wise to be discreet.

pmdal 08-15-2014 03:06 PM

Quota

Just heard from an "inside" source that quota is 80

Griffins&Quills 08-15-2014 03:35 PM

I thought parties went til 5:30? In which case, quota won't be determined until the number of girls signing their pref cards is known.

It could be around 80 though (which is a pretty significant jump from last year if so)

Griffins&Quills 08-15-2014 03:40 PM

Also, I'm excited to hear about Bid Day! Auburn's Bid Day is one of the first two for my group (along with UCF)!

This number is probably a point in the quota range that was told to chapters so they can start getting their final lists together. Every year it seems the initial number is one that some folks hold onto even though quota could be and most likely be +/- that initial number.

As you mentioned the RFM specialists won't even start running the numbers until all MRABAs are signed.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day!
