Now they're calling for a rematch with LSU for the national championship. Ok st would have to lose first, and we still have to beat a tough Arkansas (a late season upset brewing every season for us) and win our SEC championship against Georgia who has been coming on strong of late. I don't see anything in the bag yet. But...we're 10-0 for the first time since 1958 when we won our first national championship!

AXOmom 11-13-2011 11:50 AM

^^^Personally, I'm not for it. I'd rather win a bowl at this point than go to another national championship and stand a good chance of losing.

I love my team, but we have a young defensive line (although they're coming together fast) and while I know we committed a lot of turnovers in that game, and I think we would probably be better the second time around, I'm realistic about us, and I don't think we're ready for another national title game.

I'd prefer the Rose Bowl. I think we've got a good chance of winning that one this year. Plus, I'm not a fan of seeing the same game twice and I absolutely would NOT want to play it in New Orleans.:)

I think LSU and Ok. St would be a great game (if its Alabama and LSU I will have to shoot myself because that was four quarters of...yeah, just no. Unless someone is a defense afficianado.) but Ok. St. has to get past Oklahoma first which will be their biggest test.

Now NEXT year - I'd love for us to go back to the Natty.

I agree. I have no desire to see a rematch of that horrendous Alabama game. Defensive battles are brutal and boring. I'm lucky I have fingers left after the nail biting I did for that one.

Two days late (here at least), but a resounding "Yay, finally!" is necessary.

This.

Also potentially because I complained that the Stanford game was boring.

GO IRISH!

I fully expect Meatchicken to beat OSU next weekend. I'm a realist.

So it was YOUR fault too! Well, good to know it wasn't all me then.

Greeklove21 (who is, admittedly, a little hyper-competitive) has chosen to blame it ALL on Chip Kelly. Yeah, the guy's lost 4 games in his entire 3 years as head coach and she thinks he need to be run out on a rail.

I'm a little more level headed- but then again, I can clearly remember when winning 4 games in an entire season would have been a good year for the Ducks.

Smile_Awhile 11-21-2011 01:48 AM

LSU needs to go down next weekend. Just so I can a) watch the BCS computers melt down and b) lord it over the LSU side of my family.

If there was ever a year for it to happen, this is it. But the "dazed and blue" will never, ever live down the dominance of one James Patrick Tressel and his 9-1 trainwrecking record against them.

UM, yall better get it while you can, because we will be back.

It is ridiculous how much I have talked about this.
Part of it was Chip's fault. I understand he was trying to manage the time and end with a score. However, we shouldn't have gone from having a minute to score to having to rely on a field goal with 3 seconds left.

If we had showed up at all before the end of the third quarter and gotten our act together for a minute during the first half, it wouldn't have been an issue. I think we got cocky with Stanford last week.

We haven't recruited a kicker in two years. Maldonado is 6 for 11 this season. We don't need a kicker very often because we usually get touchdowns and don't need fieldgoals for points. However, HE SHOULD BE BETTER!

USC played really well. We barely showed up.

I feel bad for the Beavers next week. We are going to masacre them to make up for it.

I'm sure he made some bad decisions (I can't bring myself to actually watch the game or even read anything about it, so I'll trust you). No coach is going to be right all of the time - coaches who take gambles will win big or fail big.

At any rate - not ready to go along with daughter and throw him under the bus. They're pretty young, so if at the start of the year, you had told me we were going to go 10-2 (assuming we beat the Beavs), lose to 2 top 25 teams (one, the top team), and head back to a Rose Bowl, I'd have been pretty happy.

I think we just haven't ever had anything close to this kind of success before, so when we have a bad game - we don't quite know what to do with that. And you younguns' don't remember how truly BAD it was back in the day.:) I could tell stories....it was SO bad. Even 4 or 5 years ago a 8-4, 9-3, or 10-2 season was good for us.

As for Maldanado - he really hasn't had a lot of practice - particularly in high pressure situations. He hasn't even been in a college game where it came down to a field goal. This is his first year starting - he'll get there. I always feel bad for the kicker
in those situations - unless they're from Boise State of course. :D

I agree that they are used to being able to keep it close or even be behind and get caught up quickly in the 2nd half. They did catch up - but with some teams you can't get caught up fast enough to recover. They do need to learn that and stop depending on the 2nd half.

Pearlbubbles - You're also too young to remember (I think) that CU was a great team in the early 90's. They will be again - have faith!!!:)

Yeah, especially if Urban does come to tOSU with his buddy from BGSU, Greg Studwara, who is now LSU's assistant coach on offense. I do hope it happens.

But I do have to give kudos to Michigan's coach this year. Grudgingly. Very grudgingly.

I was not involved in the University during our 1990 national championship, no, but don't you think they'll let us forget it, lol. (we celebrated it's twentieth anniversary last year at one game...)

We were fairly decent as recent as 2005 when Barnett was coaching. And then Hawkins came my freshman year, and thus is CU's current football history.

But don't you worry, win or lose, the wins or losses are always ours to me. I've never been one to refer to the Buffs with secondary pronouns (one of my big sporting pet peeves).

Oh my freakin' lord - shoot me. Now he's in OUR conference. I'm still waiting patiently for the state of West Virginia to announce they are revoking his state citzenship (yeah, I know, technically there is no such thing - I still want him banned from the state....for life).

I'm on my phone so I can't link the article, but Urban Meyer has accepted the Ohio State job. Wonder how UF fans feel about this?

southbymidwest 11-28-2011 10:25 AM

Quite excited about Urban Meyer coming back to Ohio State. If reports are correct, he will be retaining Luke Fickell, the interim HC this year, as Asst. Head Coach. I certainly hope so. Luke did a good job in a very difficult situation this year, bleeds scarlet and grey, and will make a great head coach one day. Go Bucks!

wareagle93 11-28-2011 12:57 PM

Who would have thought OSU and Michigan would be in these positions a year ago? Wow.

I think Michigan has a legit shot at winning their bcs game (if they get a bid) provided they get the right matchup-Houston, Clemson (if they win the ACC title game) or one of the Big East Teams.

I don't think they'd have much of a chance against Oklahoma/Oklahoma State or Georgia (if they win the SEC Title Game), particularly one of the Oklahoma's. UM's secondary was awful against a below-average passing quarterback, and if it wasn't for him overthrowing 2-3 receivers that were 15+ yards behind the UM secondary, osu would have won. Just imagine what Justin Blackmon would do against that secondary, good lord. Landry Jones and Brandon Weeden would be licking their chops.

Regardless, I think Michigan is on the verge of being back. They are upping their OOC scheduling (Alabama next year) and Brady Hoke, and his staff, imo, have done the best coaching job in the country. The work they've done with that defense, which really does not have any guys who will be stars and/or contributors down the road in the NFL (outside of Roh and Mike Martin) has been unbelievable. Great coaching job, all-around. They've also taken the pressure off of Denard on offense. Last year, the word "offense" did not exist in their vocabulary. It was almost all Denard. They've done a good job adding an extra dimension in the running game with the running backs, to take the pressure off of him.

Their recruiting is picking up, too. It wouldn't surprise me if Michigan won their side of the Big Ten next year, they have a lot coming back. Hoke is locking up blue-chipper after blue-chipper, it sounds like a very exciting time to be a Michigan fan!

As for OSU, I think it's a great hire, but I think it will take a year or so for OSU to be immediate Big Ten contenders.

They still have quite a few kinks to work out, which will require time (Rome wasn't built in a day), but I think they'll get a HUGE boost in recruiting. Good luck to schools recruiting in the midwest or more specifically, the state of Ohio. Urban could very well build an impenetrable fence around the state, to a degree like he did at Florida.

It'll be interesting to see if there is a re-match for the title game, as experts like Brad Edwards claim there is a 90% chance of that happening. Let's see how this final week plays out!

I agree with a lot of your post, but I think OSU will be in the hunt next year, for a number of reasons, but my post would go 2 pages if i enumerated them. Also, you are right, Urban is a ferocious recruiter, that is one of the reasons BGSU hired him way back when, when he was an assistant coach at Notre Dame. Hoke at Michigan may have been able to get some Ohio kids this year, but hopefully not so many next year, except maybe in Toledo. Or the ones that Urban doesn't see fitting into the program.
