who would you rather be locked in a room with, muh-kenzie or juana (mom)?
*shudder* I think I would have to say muhkenzie though, with a little "talking to" and without mom pandering to her every whim I feel like she would cut the drama queen act. Her acting skills showcased in the last episode are proof that her disgusting behavior is definitely an act and hopefully she is not beyond repair. |
I'm watching what I'm sure is a rerun.... but OMG. I can't even imagine. I think we will be writing about these girls and their moms right here on GC 10-15 years from now when they don't get a bid to the "top tier" house on their campus. I'm sure it's been said on this thread before.
I teared up when a naturally beautiful 9 year old was getting her eyebrows waxed... and my jaw dropped when a 4 year old was throwing a fit about getting a spray tan. |
Did anyone watch tonight? I don't want to stereotype, but that little boy even dressed like Dorothy for Halloween?!
|
I want to know what happened to Tootie. I thought I saw her in the background of last week's episode (the one with Braxton & Alaska).

I just watched my first episode and it was this one. The little boy was definitely dressed as Dorothy for Halloween complete with ruby slippers & a wig. His mom said that it was part of his personality and his dream was to be a Broadway dancer one day. He has two dolls that he has complete wardrobes for & he takes them to all his pageants. Wow! I'll stop right there before I get nasty & snarky towards a kid & his mom. As for the girls, this just reiterated my beliefs that once my daughter is born, I will NEVER do this to her. I so recall that KD perp & her pageant obsession & now I'm going to search b/c I gotta see these pictures. Lol! I wouldn't be surprised if we see her on this show one day. |
In my family, we say we show dogs and horses, not children.

Although with regards to the boy from last week, not all kids are gender normative. I mean, the mom could be insane, but this seemed more like the boy was just feminine and mom was OK with letting him express it. Which, IMO, is fine, as long as the boy as happy and not being bullied or anything. There is an interesting blog, Raisingmyrainbow.com, that is about a mom raising her "slightly effeminate, possibly gay son." It is really adorable, well written, and insightful. |
Dear little Lola's mother was quoted in an article here....

Question. One of the moms kept talking about her daughters "flippers" and how she didn't use them during the pageant. Can someone explain to me what on earth "flippers" are in the pageant world?
|

Flippers are fake teeth that cover up missing and crooked teeth. Like dentures for 6 year olds
ETA: whoops, too slow! Thanks KSUViolet! |

Seriously? Fake teeth on a child are ugly? I'm sorry if my reactions are extreme but this is the first time I've seen anything related to kid pageants beyond the stuff I heard during the JonBenet Ramsey stuff years ago. |
Alaska and Braxton's mom needs a flipper. She was missing so many teeth it was making me want to vomit. I can't believe how these people ignore things like basic dental care but will pay to have their kids spray tanned, manicured, made up and stuffed into those expensive glitz wear abominations.
|
She needs a lot of things, possibly even a DCF caseworker.
|
I'm still in the process of catching up with the show & all the episodes I've missed so here's another question for my pageant ignorant self.
What is a "glitz" pageant? What is a "natural" pageant? I keep hearing moms talk about glitz, semi-glitz and natural pageants but many times, I can't tell the difference. Also, what is up with the ginormous size of the crowns they win? |
Glitz usually allows the girls to wear full make-up, hair pieces, flippers , spray tans and very glitzy "cupcake" dresses (think rhinestones and poof). Stage routines are very elaborate with exaggerated facial expressions. Glitz pageants focus more on beauty.
Natural pageants don't allow contestants under 13 to wear any make-up (besides a little mascara and lipgloss) and don't allow any contestants to wear hair pieces or flippers. Interview can be a part of the competition. Dresses are usually flowwy and elegant, facial expression is natural. |
For a visual comparison:

I don't like pageants (I only approve of adult beauty pageants slightly more than child beauty pageants) but natural pageants are better than glitz. The girl in the natural pageant photo looks adorable. The girl in the glitz photo looks silly.
Glitz pageants are horrendous. No exceptions. |
I think the pictures speak for themselves.. Glitz is downright scary...

To be fair, those photos are heavily photoshopped and that is known and accepted throughout the pageant world, which is what gives them their creepy black hole sun qualities. In many instances, the noses, mouths, and eyes aren't even those of the girl in the photo, and if it is her eyes, they're made bigger.
|
Oh Sweet Jesus. What on earth?!?
OK. I get it now with the glitz vs natural. Toddlers & Tiaras focuses mainly on glitz pageants. I don't think I've seen a natural pageant on the show yet but I haven't seen a lot of episodes yet. Holy Smokes! I'll agree with Dr. Phil on this one regarding glitz pageants. I just don't approve of doing this to a child. ETA: I just noticed the fake acrylics on the little girl. I really shouldn't be surprised by now. I'll still watch the show though. It's entertaining to say the least. |
What was with the redneck beauty queen that said she dreams of dancing in Vegas? What are kidding me, she's 7????? Her dance was more like a stripper. She won't be dancing at the hotels, it will be in other places on the strip. LOL

LOL! FTW! I looked back & noticed that too after reading your comment. I'm still in awe (and disgust) at the money these people are putting into these pageants. If one can afford it, then go for it. I dislike the moms who complain about not being able to get a bigger house, the ones who lie to their spouses about how much they really spend on pageants and the ones who literally forego other necessities just so they can blow their money on glitzy dresses, spray tans, flippers, etc. The future Vegas dancer also stated she was a beauty queen redneck & a hillbilly. Oooookaaaay. There was also a mom from an earlier episode with a little girl named SamiJo (sp?) who stated her sole reason for having a daughter was so she could put her in pageants. That actually sounded like something our favorite beauty queen perp would say about her daughter. And yes, I've seen the pictures of her kid. Holy Glitz Batman! |

This one's got the stripper gaze down pat:

^^^The funny part about that is that the average child beauty pageant contestant is not going to grow up to be Miss Florida.

New episode tonight!

Those photos both anger and sadden me.

Don't want to go back a few posts to see if it is mentioned but Good Housekeeping mag has an article about Toddlers & Tiaras, specifically Eden Woods. (She lost a pageant in which the winner got a new bed. Later, mommy says don't worry about it, the company is giving you one too!):p
|
Got the episode for tonight set to record on my DVR. Can't wait to watch & snark. :D

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b3wooAkWBG...Ashton_web.jpg Anyone else notice this? When your child's makeup gives her uncanny resemblance to a 48 year old actress there is a problem. (Never mind the whole Vanessa Williams as first black Miss America/having to resign her crown over nude pictures...foreshadowing?) |
Holy Crap! The resemblance is uncanny...and creepy. |
