i should have picked "maverick" as my buzzword in the debate drinking game.

a.e.B.O.T. 10-02-2008 10:30 PM

I feel like Little Tim Crachit should come out on his crutch next to Palin and say "God Bless Us, Everyone"

OneTimeSBX 10-02-2008 10:32 PM

and who is holding the baby???

a.e.B.O.T. 10-02-2008 10:39 PM

so who won? or are we calling this a cop out?

I don't think Palin had the big flub like we were looking for, but her words were kind of flat. McCain fans are going to say this was successful SOLEly because she didn't mess up, like Liberman is right now, but I don't think that is a good reason to call a win...

SWTXBelle 10-02-2008 10:40 PM

Really, I think that for the most part no one "wins" - the object is to make sure you don't obviously "lose".

DaemonSeid 10-02-2008 10:41 PM

it wasn't a big flub...it was a lot of little ones.....

But Biden hit her on Iraq with "I didn't hear a plan"

a.e.B.O.T. 10-02-2008 10:44 PM

Well, she had her talking points and she was clearly hesitant to escape those... I like her strong focus on energy, but she will be VP... she needed to talk up McCain there, and separate him from Bush more...

Luckily, b/c she is just running for VP, unless McCain croaks, tonight is probably the hardest thing she will ever have to do...

nittanyalum 10-02-2008 10:46 PM

OH.
MY.
GOD.

Thank god it ended, I think my ears were about to start bleeding.

Ok, so Palin didn't tank, but she sure didn't hit it out of the ballpark. And here's a tip, if you don't really know a General's name, don't say it.

Biden was terrific, IMO. He even had a real "moment" there! (my husband turned and gave me a fist bump on that one ;))

In all honesty, I liked the format of the first Presidential debate much better. I felt like BOTH of VP candidates just said their canned, planned pieces for the most part. Biden strayed from this a little more, or didn't come off quite as canned, but doggone it, I found the whole thing to be pretty boring and too prepared.

ETA: I want our President and Vice President to sound businesslike and professional so the relaxed language really bothers me. It has bothered me with Bush too during his entire Presidency.

She has an amazing wardrobe.
She connects with the "home on the range" folk.
She held her own.
She is an interesting speaker.
She was well-rehearsed.
She stayed on her talking points.
She kept looking down at her notes.
She didn't answer most of the questions.
She is long-winded (i though that was a Biden thing :p).
She did better than I expected...
BUT, She didn't impress me.
REPUBLICANS, YOU CAN BREATHE NOW!! :D

ETA: Mr. McCain, sir... can Sarah do some interviews now? Pwwweeaasee
