Besides, the rumor that Trig is her grandchild is unsubstantiated thus far. The picture that the rumors are using as "evidence" was taken in 2006. Most people do not have a 2 year gestation period.

If it's true, oh well. I wonder how many mothers raise their teenage daughter's children these days as their own? Not so uncommon. Wouldn't you protect your daughter?

It proves that if she would go to ridiculous lengths to cover up something that doesn't need to be, what else is she hiding or WOULD she hide if the GOP ticket wins? It's a trust issue.

The facts just don't add up. Bristol pulled out of school for several months, 8 hour plane ride plus 45 minute drive to a remote hospital, Sarah Palin's coworkers not suspecting she is pregnant at 7 months?

Would I "protect" my daughter? I wouldn't see the need to lie because I am not friends with any Evangelical Christians/other types that are adamantly against premarital sex so it's not like my success or hers would depend on what the "wait until marriage" crowd thinks.

Obviously, anyone can see Sarah Palin's rationale for the cover up. She is a Republican, a member of a party with a substantial bloc of voters who feel strongly that sex should be saved for marriage. However, given the choice between being honest and being exposed as a liar, I'd be honest. And if I were a hypothetical Republican in public office, I'd put a spin on it and emphasize that my daughter did not have an abortion.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I posted a few weeks ago in the Random thread that a girl I know is becoming a grandmother next year at the tender age of 31.

She had her eldest at 15. At 16, her son is continuing the cycle. Mind you, she has 6 kids, the youngest of whom was born last February.

44 year old grandmother's aren't extreme, honestly. You could graduate from college, get married and have a child by 22, and your child could do the same.31 is a whole 'nother ball game!

My mother was a grandmother at 45. She had me at 19 (6 weeks short of 20) , and I had my first child at 25. God willing, I've got a good 5 - 10 years before grandmotherhood, but that would make me 49 - 50.

My point was not that any of us should ever vote for a candidate simply because he or she is Greek. It was that this election slate is hardly an endorsement of Greek life that many of us value so highly. Hopefully some of your comments about these candidates attending college during a "low" era for Greek life is correct. In any event, Janerz222 is correct, those very out of date claims should be canned. In fact, most of the facts cited was information from almost a half century ago -- because I was involved in one of the studies pertaining to business executives .

Do GLOs offer leadership opportunities? Yes. Are they the only organizations that do? No. Students have more opportunities than ever before to get involved on campus, and the fact that we don't have a Greek running for P/VP is hardly anything to set off fear of the decline of the GLO.

As thrilled as I am whenever a sister is prominent in government, business or entertainment, I am actually prouder of many of the Greek men and women I know who you will never hear of - who use those skills to better their communities, their schools, their small-but-still-successful businesses. I believe that the benefits of GLO membership can't - and shouldn't - just be measured by the famous, or those who ascend to a high position of power.

We don't know that for sure. For all we know all 4 might be in GLO's come 2012 and again in 2016 and again in 2020.

I haven't been keeping track of who's been in GLO's for the last 100 yrs because I don't have that kind of time on my hands, but really, it doesn't make sense to say "the end of an era has come" or that there was even an era to begin with.

Maybe oldu can go through the numbers and post a thread about Pres/VP greek affiliations so we can determine the best IFC fraternity by the one who has the most Pres/VP nominations !!! :rolleyes:

Tons of young adults are enrolled in college every year, but the vast majority of them probably do not elect to join a GLO, or maybe, like OTW pointed out, they did try, but were not given bids. This doesn't make them bad people and it doesn't mean they will never gain leadership experience.

I don't need a slate full of Greek people to justify going Greek. I also don't need websites full of "famous people" who are Greek to make me feel warm & fuzzy about my decisions. And I dont need all of that in order to tell a non-affiliated person the great things about Greek life.

If you want to sell the idea of Greek life by saying "Look! John McCain is a XYZ man! If you join XYZ you can be just like him!!!" or "Look! Paris Hilton is my sorority sister! If you join my chapter you can be rich and famous like her too!!!" then you keep on caring about who is and who isn't.

I'm kind of at a point where I don't think anything in politics could honestly surprise me, and yet, this Palin story just seems far fetched. And it seems like it's going to be hard to even acknowledge enough to put to rest. What would you say, "hey since people on the internet are dragging my family through the mud, I'm going to go ahead and release my medical records?" and once you did, do you think the wackos would accept that, or would it go onto "well, those are obviously faked." It just seems a little conspiracy theory to me.

So Bristol really is pregnant....(posted only for information purposes, I am NOT judging anyone here..)
