I think ChiDeltJen was asking if Space mountain would be open when she's here in May. Unfortunately no, it will open up on July 15th just in time for the acutally 50th anniversary. Also, be aware that if you are planning to go to DL the first week of May that Disneyland Park will be closed on May 4th in order to prep it for the big 50th anniversary opening celebrations. For all the Disneyland and Disneyworld fans out there check out www.mouseplanet.com They have the best updates about Disney each week and what is going on at the parks etc. Carolyn |
Thanks for the mouseplanet link, my husband will get hooked on that site! I had no idea that Small World had been closed and I hope they didn't crap it up when they refurbished it like they did the Tiki Room and World of Energy and the Land.
Does anybody know what Soarin' and the Lilo and Stitch ride are like? |
My best friends husband works at Disneyland & has warned me about rides to avoid. He's one of the mechanical engineers on the rides (mostly Fantasyland but does other areas too) so I know to avoid the little Dumbo elephants & as much as I love Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, it's just not safe.

As for Soarin', if it's like the DCA version it's great. The builiding is kind of a dome shape inside - a lot like a planetarium. It's a simulated hanggliding ride that stimulates you through visual, feeling (cold, etc), and smell. There are three 'gliders' with about 3 or 4 rows of seats each. You walk in and sit in one of the seats then are strapped in. If you are wearing flipflops they ask that you take them off and leave them on the floor. Once everyone is secure the ride starts and you are raised up about 30-40 feet in the air. (not a ride for those afraid of heights). Meanwhile on the walls/screen you are watching various scenes of California. You get the sense that you are really hanggliding along. When you fly over the river/coastal redwood area you feel cool air and kind of have a fresh foresty smell and will even hear a fisherman asking if "you caught anything". There's an area where you fly over orange groves you get a whiff of oranges. Keep an eye on the Yosemite scenes, on the side of Half Dome you'll see some mountain climbers. It's a great ride. I can't remember if it will be open at DW by the time i'm there at the end of May. I hope so, then I can compare it and see how it is. Carolyn |

All Disney Parks, all the time http://www.allearsnet.com/ Best WDW website out there http://passporter.com/ Great Park touring/travel planning guide Nope, I don't get any money from any of these sites. I found them invaluable when planning our Disney trip of a lifetime a couple years ago. |
Okay, i have not been to any of the disneyworlds/lands in years, but my favorite was space mountain back in the "day"
Funny story, Pirates of the carribean use to scare me to death cause the big open space with all the scenes i use to think that it was way deep and the first time i went on it my brother threatened to push me in. Well, when i was in high school i did a research project on disney and read this book about the building of disneyland and realized that the water is only a few feet deep. Okay, so i think it is funny. I want to go back just so that i can go on this ride and enjoy it. I do have to say that i LOve the tea cups. I love going with people who are really strong and can turn those cups and spine around and around. |

I am such a Disney FREAK, so it's good to know I'm not alone.
Besides the obvious thrill rides there, I just LOVE Peter Pan and the Tiki Room ( I know it' not a "ride" but it's so cute!) |
OK, AXOAlum, we expect an updated report on all the new rides when you get back!

Say it with me, Expedition Everest!

I just got back from Disneyland this last weekend. I LOVE the new Space Mountain.
And the Haunted Mansion all decked out for Christmas was really awesome too. |
I've only been to Disneyland once in my 20 years of existence...lol, poor me!
But my favorite ride was the Matterhorn. |

AP preview was this weekend (I think) and soft opening is ongoing. Here's a video link of the ride (some of it is dark, but who cares?) http://www.bigfloridacountry.com/everest.htm
My heavens, it's an E ticket ride on steroids! |
