Ok, how old IS the guy? Some sources say 18 and some say 19. And in some states, that one year makes all the difference in a statutory rape case.

I don't understand why we're talking about how she could/could not have disappeared for a while to have the baby and give it up for adoption. She chose to keep it, so isn't that a moot point?

And honestly, if she wasn't Britney's little sister, no one would even care about this story. Lots of minors have sex, and unfortunately lots of them get pregnant.

We're talking about it because someone said they give her credit for doing the "right" thing and keeping the baby, and someone else pointed out that dropping out of site and putting the baby up for adoption wouldn't necessarily be the "wrong" thing to do. Especially since she most likely just cost a bunch of people their jobs.

Besides, if we stuck to discussing the facts in the story there really wouldn't be much to discuss, would there? Tramp's little Tramp sister tramps herself out and gets pregnant. End of story. Everyone can go home now.

I do too, but with a whole TV show dependent on her, she should have been on the pill, using a diaphragm AND a condom.

She isn't a star on an adult show where they could have written in the pregnancy or worked around it. Does it kind of stink that people are judging her for doing something lots of 16 year olds do? Yeah. But she also makes more money than most people will see in their lives. That's the price you pay for celebrity.

Damn. As much as I don't care for the Spears family, calling a 16-year old who got pregnant a "tramp" is pretty freaking judgemental.

I agree with this, but I also think that there should be way more safe sex education, and not just abstinence education. I think that kids in this time period are likely to engage in all sorts of "sordid" activities. I know, I was one of them. I am grateful that I had "worldly" friends to guide me, and I learned a lot of things the hard way. I also credit a really great counseling and health services office at my college.

My high school did jack when it came to that stuff, and the college I work at now (it's a Catholic school) does NOTHING, no pamphlets, nothing, it's really sad. My friend works in health services, and people come in there all the time looking for help and they can't even tell them anything! They can't help them find services, nothing.

So, on the one hand, I think that kids will do what they are going to do, but I also think that it is up to schools and parents to teach them the appropriate information, no matter how awkward. The "don't do it" approach isn't working.

*I also realize that this is relevant to my own personal beliefs and the area in which I live, and is not necessarily relevant to others, and others may not agree, and that's ok :)

This is more true than many people would like to believe. Many other drugs don't mix with certain birth control pills, plus most birth control pills are made for women who are 150 pounds or under. I know of two bouncing baby boys whose mothers gained a bit too much weight at the wrong time of the month!

I think it fair to say that Britney Spears behavior qualifies as "trampy".Whether or not her younger sister's behavior does is a bit more murky. To the best of my knowledge, she hasn't flashed her naughty bits or been with more than the one guy.
But any parent who allows her 16 year old daughter to date an older guy is, imho, asking for trouble.

Anyone else think that the Spears family may become singlehandedly responsible for the return of the chastity belt?

Although in Florida the "age of consent" is 18, a 18-23 year old may have sex with a 16-17 year old. Thus Mr. Baby-Daddy is not, based on the current information, a rapist.
