um, ok, for the folks watching the msnbc stream, what's the paddle for?

Velocity_14 09-20-2007 02:44 PM

I'm am just burning up inside. Did you all see the CNN interview with two caucasion residents stating that the image the media is trying to create of Jena is false? I will have to elaborate on that later b/c I am a lil pissed right now. I think tonight CNN will have an hour special on the case at 8pm central time---correct me if I'm wrong somebody?

I read some of the comments in the other thread titled Jena 6...y'all...I had to step away before snapped on somebody. This is really confirming for me what my older cousin who is a sheriff tells me all of the time...people don't change they just adapt. I feel like things really haven't changed...they have just been sugar-coated to not seem as bad...but the core is still rotten.

But....like my siggy says...I'm intimidated by none and motivated by all....let me get my P. Diddy on...'can't stop, won't stop....take that, take that, take that...'

I saw that too. It's laughable. My parents are from neighboring small towns in rural Georgia where I know they had (we're talking late 80s and through the 90s, and maybe it still happens) two of everything...homecoming queens and courts, cheer squads, prom king and queen...blacks live on one side of the tracks in the city limits, whites on the other. you ask the white folks, like the two that were interviewed, how things are and they spout the whole "we interact with black and we talk to blacks" spiel. of course you do. you ask black folks how things are and you get a labored sigh and an "it is what it is and it's always been that way" kind of response. everyone kind of deals with it until something happens. things happen all the time, it just happened that this time someone, a lot of someones, outside their community heard about it.

I started replying to that thread on 5 different occasions; we're >>here<<.

the other thread

If you've never been on the receiving end of racism, overt or otherwise, its hard to explain what it feels like to be discriminated against. It's hard to explain why you get nervous when you get pulled over or followed in a store or looked at funny when you walk with your child down the street because you look young and people assume you are on welfare (I determine eligibility for people to receive it, thank YOU very much).:mad: People assume that we're all singing Kumbaya (sp?) when that is not the case.

I am scared for our black men because of situations like this.

I am encouraged by the response and show of support of people, though. :)

No, we don't understand. There are things you likely don't understand either. Come join us over there.

It is ridiculous!! My cousin (who is also a sheriff in a small town in Miss.) came to visit me on labor day and said that at a leadership seminar he went to, the instructor (who happens to be caucasion) said that people don't change they just adapt. I just keep hearing that over and over in my head because it is the truth...at least to me. Some of the comments that have been made has just had me sitting over here looking real crazy! But sometimes you can't change stupidity...it has to work itself out. Wheeeew, soror, I am just so sick and tired of this nonsense! It just amazes me how selective people's listening and reading skills can be...let me stop because I am starting to get mad...lol. I should have left to go to Walmart an hour ago and I'm still sitting on this computer...lol

Hey sistergreek, I'm from MS. What is the name of the town in MS (if you don't mind me asking)?

UPDATE: The LA court has ordered a review in Bell's case. Tell me those numbers and the attention drawn to the case hasn't affected anything.

Didn't know Ice Cube's dad is from Chattam, LA. A small town in Northern LA...not too far from Jena. Yes, Cube and his wife and kids are there.

I remember hearing that Cube put together buses to leave from Cali to Jena.

That's great news!!:D

Per Mr. Jones, Mychel Bell's father, he is slated to be released tomorrow @ 12Noon. (Hoping that in Mr. JOnes' words, the DA and Judge won't try another trick) He's speaking on Micheal Baesden's show right now.

I don't know why anoyone would even go into those threads for a discussion on GC. You are not going to change anyone's mind, and they probably aren't going to change yours.

When I am not sure of how I feel about a topic and I want to discuss it IRL I read up on it and look for info from BOTH sides of the aisle. 99.9% of the "dialogues" I see here are with people who never bother to seek out that kind of information, yet still feel compelled to comment. Boring.

There are some things that some folks have no desire to understand, and I am definitely in that group. I have no desire to understand how difficult it is to be a poor persecuted affluent southern white male, so I just don't talk to some folks and let it go.

Aaaaaaand...I'm back from the 'other' Jena thread. You could mess around and lose your religion over there.

MeezDiscreet 09-20-2007 07:25 PM

I couldn't get past the first page--that thread messes with my presha!

Shid, your national president is always on point. Now if he would just get a couple of suits to fit his widening girth - LOL. (At the Kappa Klave his suit jacket was pulling all kinds of ways when buttoned.)
