I think Barbie was an undercover madame, myself. As stated earlier, how could she have all that fly stuff and chill all day. The doctor/lawyer/equestrian stuff were all fronts for her illegal pimpstress activities. Then she went to jail (around the time we all stopped giving a damn about her), now she's back and she has like 12 jobs. She also has a belly-button, now. Ain't that some sh**.
Well, let me continue with some other stuff... I KNOW everyone remembers Rubik's Cube. Remember when you'd peel the stickers off and arrange them so it "appeared" as if though you really figured the sh** out. Remember that snake thingy where you could twist and turn it into different shapes. WOW...games... Remember Twister The Oiuja Board (in my neighborhood, most Black fols wouldn't TOUCH that type of stuff) Remember "Light as a feather...stiff as a board" at the slumber parties...everyone would lift up one person with two fingers only and they'd (supposedly) float to the top of the ceiling. Remember "Bloody Mary" in the girls bathroom. Someone would end up with scratches on their body. Hell...Hide and go seek/ Hide and go get it (ghetto version with all the horny little neighborhood boys)...I NEVER played that...I really didn't. Tag and hopscotch (of course) [This message has been edited by DELTABRAT (edited July 25, 2000).] |
hide and go get it, deltabrat? hmmm...sounds shady, if you ask me!
tell me you guys had hungry hungry hippos..that game was SO damn loud! yeah, i had the rubik's cube... i remember catching fireflies in a jar at dusk in my neighborhood *but only if i let them go, my mum said* remember jailbreak? man, i played that around my whole neighborhood...it was awesome! hopscotch was cool until it rained. and remember bubbles? i ALWAYS played with bubbles. my parents say one of thier fondest moments of my childhood was when i'd play bubbles all day and the next time it rained, the driveway foamed! etienne sigma alpha iota ------------------ "red is the color of music and has been since the very earliest of times. the caps of faeries and musicians are well-nigh always red."~*~w.b.yeats "I think that happiness is when you can let yourself feel every emotion you want at any time instead of being a lying little fuck." - Tori Amos |
Hey yall forgot something. NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK! yall remember them? ohhh what about the Mchammer pants? Oh and the Macauly culkin cartoon that came on saturdays? (i'll admit it i watched it). The slap braclets they hurt whenever you put them on your wrist. Those BIGO bows that mom would put in your hair, your bow would be bigger then your head. LOL! Ohh and what about staying up to 3am having your friend call the boy YOU liked.... I always liked watching full house, and when i got older i liked 90210 (the 30yrs in H.S. now that i look back they looked way to old for high school students)
and i loved the wonder years... Oh and just to let you know i'm 18 and i feel really old! I also bought my first greatest hits cd the other day. New Kids on the block--- http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ~ok that was fun~ |
DeltaBrat,
Are you serious about someone getting scratched by the Bloody Mary game? I was always too afraid. Hey guys remember that game "Operations" and a slinky, a slinky! UNO, remember when rollar skates were the bomb! How about hand ball, and those ugly stretch pants that had the elastic part that went under your feet? What ever happened to Big Daddy Kane, and MC Shane? |
Hey:
No, that was the supposed "myth" surrounding the game. One girl did have scratches but we all assumed someone else in the restroom (besides the dead Mary Quenn of Scott) did it. Yes, Slinky was cool. The stretch pants were hideous. Big Daddy Kane fell off after that rumor that he had AIDS...remember. MS Shane...who knows. Operation is ABSOLUTELY my favorite game. I JUST bought one for my son (yeah, right) last X-mas. The loud buzzing noise is too much for him to handle right now, though. That friggin' Adam's apple is a b**** to get out...damn!! |
AAAAAHH! Not the Bloody Mary game! I am a grown ass woman and the mere mention of that game sends chills down my back! The first time I tried that "game" I ran out of the bathroom crying right in the middle of it...needless to say that was the last time I ever played Bloody Mary! As for "Operation", I would never get it for my child! The game almost gave me a nervous breakdown when I was a kid! I acquired the "shakes" trying to hold that little red tweezer looking thing trying to save that man's life! And oh God when the dam thing buzzed...it's just too much pressure on a kid! Well what do you know? I'm not the only one who used to collect fireflies in jars...unfortunately I did not let the little buggers go. I kept them in the jar until the next morning ...at which time I gave them a proper burial. (Yes, I was a morbid kid...but it's no worse than what some of you did to poor Barbie. I won't name any names!) My favorite games were Life and Monopoly. I was always the shoe...God forbid someone tried to be the shoe. Let's just say it was not pretty!

Speaking of roller skates...remember when your grandma would make you some roller skates out of an old pair of sneakers? Am I old?
|
Y'all, this thread is the funniest thing I have ever read in my WHOLE life.
I have been CRYING reading it - what were we THINKING? I can't believe nobody mentioned: Debbie Gibson, Chuck Taylor Converse, Coca-Cola shirts, Ghostbusters, leather ties, pegging the cuffs of your jeans by pinching them and folding them before you roll them, stretchy lace headbands (or socks), Rainbow Brite, Friday Night Videos, switching the heads on Barbie and Ken... I knew every word to "All Cried Out" by Lisa Lisa. Then again, I am so old that when they play "White Lines" on the "retro hour" on the radio, I know all the words. Don't get sick... but have y'all heard that re-make of "Boys in the Hood"? One day at work, the original came on the radio, and I was singing the whole thing, even the @#$% parts, and my employees (all still in college) thought I was insane. They said "we didn't know this was a cover". They had never heard of NWA. Personally, I want big hair to come back - it makes my waist look smaller. ;-) |
Hey remember when Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire in the pepsi commercial, and when he started wearing surgical masks everywhere he went, how about when the rest of his family tried going solo...Rebbie Jackson with "Centipede", Jermaine Jackson with "Do what you Do", Janet Jackson's "Control" how about that music video that was like a cartoon...I don't remember the name of the group but it was a rock group...remember when girls used to dress like Madonna? Oh my god! What about MoonWalking! Turning the fire hydrant on in the summer and running through it! Freshman day at school where all the freshmans got beat up! Whitney Housten's pre-Bobby days! Wow I didn't think this thread would run this long....could you imagine if we did this again for the late ninety's and two thousands what we would come up with 20 years from now?

oh the things we all remember. it's funny to see that everyone's childhoods might have been different but we have SO much in common. i really think the 80's were totally cool"...hair and all. i mean, we were in junior high school, just starting to REALLY date, figuring out ourselves, our bodies, our friends...god, i'm starting to sound like oprah winfrey or a REALLY BAD afterschool speacial.
anyway, yeah...reminiscing is awesome. that's all... etienne ------------------ "red is the color of music and has been since the very earliest of times. the caps of faeries and musicians are well-nigh always red."~*~w.b.yeats "I think that happiness is when you can let yourself feel every emotion you want at any time instead of being a lying little fuck." - Tori Amos |
