When people say certain practices contrast the original purpose of fraternities, I wonder where they get their notion of "original purpose" from.

Do you know what the fraternity practice of elephant walking is? If you do know what it is, is that in line with the original purpose of fraternities?

Wow! This same question was already asked and responded to about 10 posts back. Don't point fingers at people and call them ignorant when you are unwilling to answer questions that they may have. I am not asking questions about ritual (which with I can understand secrecy). We merely ask for answers which all members of BGLOs seem to know and understand.
BTW I did check out your link. Ignorant is being “unaware because of a lack of relevant information or knowledge.”

Ignorance takes on quite a negative connotation. Even know they share the same definition.....I think there is a difference between being ignorant and unimformed. Ignorant makes you come across like an idiot.

If you have a question about NPC or IFC life, we would gladly answer because we are trying to raise awareness and acceptance of our organizations (instead of spreading misinformation and unacceptance). I believe numerous people on here have tried to make/ wanted this thread to be about what is stepping. No answers were given! What a shock. I’m a junior. The entire Divine 9 are on my campus, but it wasn’t until recently (when I went to a stepshow to gain spirit points) that I had any clue that you all step and that it’s a huge competition for NPHC and Multicultural greeks. Therefore is is extremely likely that someone could have no clue as to what a step show is.

Maybe this was the tangent that most of us were on.
I'm done posting here, as this thread is dead.

How is it a stupid question? I don't know anything about black fraternities other than that they take jumping around on stage doing choreographed dances very seriously. I'm quite sure many people share the same view.

Yeah, your response just made it seem like you thought I was in a black org. No big deal.

Yes.

Yes--if you unaware of practices that are specific to BGLOs you are ignorant of them. That doesn't mean you HAVE to be aware of them. But if you are going to speak on something in a jestful or serious way, try to be informed or shut the hell up.

"Real questions" is based on perception. If they care so much, they can search the GC archives just like other people do when they have reoccuring questions.

We have. There are no answers for how this dancing ever involves anything their founders ideals. If you don't know, perhaps you are ignorant and should not be discussing in this thread.

You may have Brother Mac and me confused.
IIRC, Brother Mac never had 1856 in his username.

ufdale 12-10-2006 05:16 PM

Eh I still knew he was an SAE. I think he used to have it in his signature (not username, sorry), but even if he didn't I knew it because he's mentioned it before.

if you want to learn about them, then you can research them or even ask a member. but to imply that the sole purpose of BGLOs is to step and hop is proof positive of ignorance (i.e. lack of knowledge) and is actually insulting.

No, it wasn't.

DSTCHAOS 12-10-2006 08:55 PM

If people are asking about the origins of stepping and there aren't old threads on the topic, ASK ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF STEPPING or GOOGLE IT to find the hundreds of website links on the topic.

Quit with the insulting references to "founders' ideals" or whatever nonsense. You don't know anything about my Founders' ideals and BGLOs don't give a damn if we aren't in line with YOUR founders' ideals.
