We're Hanging In there

TexasDaughter called about an hour ago -- she was a bit upset, I'm afraid. She got 5 invites back, which I tried to tell her was good. Of course, she's in a group where most of the girls got 7, 8 or 9 so she's feeling a little down 'cause she didn't receive that many. Most of those girls are legacies, however, and I reminded her of that fact. She shed a few tears, but then tried to look at the positive. She is determined to put a good face on it and go to the five parties and give them all a chance. The first house she goes back to is one of her favorites, and I think that's probably a good thing. She got a really good vibe from the girls at this house yesterday.

She's a little worried about sitting around outside during down times. Each of the parties will last about 25 minutes, I think. I told her to call me and we'd chat, if she starts to feel down. Was this good advice? I don't want her to sit around and get down on herself.

The five groups she goes back to, in no particular order, are:

Taylor, Chris, Fantasia, Tamyra and Paula.

Thanks for everyone's support. We both really appreciate it.

Just heard from TexasDaughter again. Her RhoGamma told her there was a mistake on her invites, and she is also to attend Katherine and Ruben. So she will attend seven parties tonight -- Fantasia, Katherine, Ruben, Chris, Paula, Taylor and Tamyra. She sounded a bit more upbeat this time.

Oh good! I'm happy to hear she got lots of invites back from her favorites.

7 invites on an evening where 9 is max is great! Just remind her to keep an open mind, to be herself, to have fun, and most importantly, to keep us updated ;). I hope she enjoys this next round!

southernyankee 08-22-2006 05:42 PM

That is sooo good! Tell her to keep a positive attitude...it really helped my daugter get through!

Best of luck and Gig "em ! I'm pulling for my daughter's (Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 05) house! Sounds like she's doing great.

I liked it when I had down time-I met many other PNMs this way. 7 houses out of 9 is very good.

BadSquirrelBeta 08-22-2006 07:37 PM

Sounds good!! She is a real trooper! Go TexasDaughter...keep us updated TexasMom!!

2:42 a.m. -- What???

I just got off the phone with TexasDaughter and she gave me a rundown of the evening's events. Apparently, there was a storm in College Station this evening during the round of parties and it delayed everything by about an hour. The girls were told to go inside whichever house they went to last to ride out the storm. She said they weren't allowed to speak to the actives when they went back inside the house a second time.

These are the houses she visited during this second round.

Tamyra. One of her favorites from yesterday and she was glad to start with them today. Again, she clicked with several girls. Didn't talk to the same girls as yesterday, but spoke with four others. She definitely felt a connection here.

Paula. This is an example of always giving a house another chance. She was unsure about this house yesterday, but today TexasDaughter loved this house -- she talked to a lot of people and had several meaningful conversations with the actives about their philanthropy.

Chris. TexasDaughter liked these girls a lot. They were down to earth, friendly and she could see herself fitting in here.

Taylor. A very popular house on campus. TexasDaughter isn't sure it's for her though. Said she is more nervous in this house than any other.

Fantasia. TexasDaughter really liked this group. She is learning more about them each day and likes them more each time she goes back.

Randy. TexasDaughter is not sure this is the house for her, but she's willing to go back to give them another look. She's probably the most ambivalent towards this house.

Katherine. Another group she likes a lot.. She said they were all very outgoing and seemed good-hearted -- they really talked a lot about their philanthropy and she liked that.

The third round of parties will begin tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. They'll get their invites and go immediately to the houses. They may attend up to six parties at 35 minutes each.

NOTE: It's becoming a habit of mine to post in the early morning hours. Please excuse the typos, and the disjointed language in this post. I wanted to get it posted while her comments were fresh.

Incidentally, it's so nice to see a "Good Luck to TexasDaughter" post from someone you've never physically met. I think that's cool!

Go Aggies!

texasmom 08-23-2006 04:30 AM

I think I typed "Randy" instead of "Ruben". Not doing a good job previewing the posts, am I?

proudmom 08-23-2006 08:09 AM

Do you ever sleep???? Is that nervous worried mom sleeplessness?

Count another mom wishing TXDaughter only the best and crossing my fingers for a happen ending rush! And for Mom to be happy as well!

_______________________

I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get eight hours of uninterrupted sleep again, proudmom. Actually, I was asleep when TexasDaughter called this morning around 1 a.m. Of course, by the time we chatted, then I posted (obviously, I'm not the world's quickest poster) and the time I got back to bed it was almost time to get up.

Hopefully, it'll all be worth it if she can find her home. TexasDaughter is the type of girl who needs to sort things out verbally when she makes her decisions (unlike her two older sisters). I guess last night I was the recipient of her chattiness.

Of course, I have a feeling I'm not going to be very bright at work today! Oh, well.

GtownGirl98 08-23-2006 10:37 AM

Oh... I so wish AGD was still at A&M... I looked into transferring there while I was in college. Also my brother is there and it would be so awesome for him to meet a sister to be my sister-in-law. OH my...

Good luck with all the other options. I am always a very verbal thinker, so on behalf of all us verbal people... THANKS for helping us work through our issues!

Good Luck to Your Texas Daughter!

Thank you so much for posting a thread that is so interesting to read! Having been through "Formal Recruitment" myself many many years ago at a much smaller school with only three sororities on campus, this brings back so many fond memories. However, I can only imagine how tired your daughter must be after every round!

I don't usually give advice, but please remind her that the sorority she chooses isn't for four years, it is for a LIFETIME! I wish her the best in her difficult decision and admire her open mindedness!

BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL MATCH! :D
