Another blast from the past..
The houses did not have central air conditioning. Most of us came back to school in August with window units. Because they made the house look ugly, people who lived in the front of the house had to TAKE THEIR AIR CONDITIONERS DOWN during rush parties and hide them somewhere. They could put them back at night.
We also did house tours. Girls on the second floor had to keep their rooms neat and coordinate decorations during rush week. We had poster checks, bedspread inspections, the works. The front rooms at the Zeta house looked out on a lovely courtyard. The back rooms, on an alley. Most people thought that the second floor rooms were more desireable. For three years, I lived on the third floor, in the back. I just couldn't handle the stress of having to put away everything before parties. Going up an extra flight of stairs every time was worth it to me. Hope they have central air now! |

It's so funny how these rumors are created and evolve! |
that's funny, because i seem to remember the sugarbaker girls went to unc-chapel hill and were tri deltas. maybe i am thinking of another show?
i too heard the delta burke rumor, but i believe that i remember reading a story about her and she said that she was not a greek. |
Okay, how's this for irnoy.
I knew I had physically read the thing about Suzanne Sugarbaker so I remember tonight that the Arrow, Pi Phi's publication, had recently come to the house. Sure enough, in an article entitled "Pi Phi Fact or Fiction" it says the character refers to her days as a Mississippi Beta Pi Phi [in at least one episode]. The funny thing is this entire article is devoted to divulging truths about Pi Phi alumni and dispelling rumors. Crazy :-) |

Kate Jackson said something about the "Kappa" house or being a "Kappa" in one episode of "The Scarecrow & Mrs. King," but she never said "Kappa Kappa Gamma." Kate Jackson is a KKG from Ole Miss--I saw her composite picture! |
Where has the summer gone? Here at Alabama Recruitment Workshop begins next week with Recruitment the following.
Sending out my best thoughts and well wishes to all the other Advisors and Alumnae volunteers who give their precious time to help out with Formal Recruitment. Certainly this is a difficult and stressful time for the collegians, but folks often forget how hard it is on the alums who help out. We take time away from our families, stay at the sorority until the wee hours of the morning, go home to get some sleep, get up to get kids off to school and/or get to work, go back and do it all again. It's difficult physically and emotionally, but we do it because we love our sororities. I for one feel the alum volunteers are the unsung heroines of Recruitment! |
Kobe Tai the famous asian pornstar was a theta.
Just lettin you know. |
I was invited to mock rush next week at one of the sorority houses at UGA-and I can't go!:( Rats!!!

I was wondering if anyone has any pointers for first time alumnae volunteering at rush. This will be my first time and I'm really excited about it, but kinda worried at the same time. Thanks!

As an alumna, you'll be in the background. My chapter made the punch and brought the shrimp and chocolate covered strawberries for pref night. We also served the PNMs. Other than that, we were there mostly for moral support.
You may be approached by some PNMs with questions like, "What's the sorority like after graduation? What does you sorority mean to you?" etc. Just be there for your sisters, and be proud that you'll be representing the lifetime bond of sisterhood. The PNMs will see that sisterhood doesn't end with graduation. |

As an alumna, make sure you know the rules of what you can and can't do, say or not say.
We had an alumna say hello to someone she knew, (the pnm spoke first) and we got a rush infraction. I think it was $10 but hey, lol.:p |
Alums helping out at recruitment should be ready and willing to help with anything and everything! If that means washing crystal until your hands are waterlogged, clearing trash between rounds, running emergency errands, number crunching, or whatever then do it with a smile. :) Oh, and have fun!
