Rules like "no smoking in letters" are stupid and nine times out of 10, the women being called trashy are out living their lives and having fun, and the people calling them trashy are too busy imposing their outdated ideas of proper conduct for "ladies" to ever do much of anything. I don't smoke, for the record, but seriously WHO IN THE HELL CARES if anybody smokes in letters? |
We weren't allowed to smoke in letters. I was fine with it since I'm allergic to smoke. My feeling about ALL smoking is you should do it in the confines of your own car/house so I don't have to breathe in your toxic smoke.

We weren't allowed to smoke or drink in letters. Most of the girls followed that. I believe it's more of a respect issue than a trashy or not issue. I don't smoke, but nor do I think it's trashy. To each their own, I s'pose. At the house though, the girls couldn't be out front, they had to be in the back and not in sight of the street.

Everyone knows I'm a smoker. And when I was a collegian, all our events were non-smoking (as they still are), but I'd always go off somewhere where no one could see me just so I could have one. The bitch president at that time told me to take some masking tape to cover my letters so no one could see the AGD letters. I threatened to rip her a new one if she ever told me what to do again. |

Please smoked in letters all the time up here. I really didn't care, I sat outside with some of my friends while they smoked. Every single sorority had smokers, and they smoked in their letters. |
I think its stupid to have rules about smoking in letters. I mean what looks worse, a girl smoking (which up till about 20 years ago was "classy") in letters, or a girl smoking with masking tape all over her shirt or and inside out set of lettters. Duh people aren't stupid, they can still read the letters and they prob know what org you in anyway weather you're wearing letters or not. If it's really a big deal they would make everyone only smoke in the dark in their room under the covers. (not safe btw)

It may seem stsupid, but in the south, it's a big deal. It's alllll about perception as stupid and trivial as it seems. We're not supposed to drink or smoke in our letters. Granted, people probably know which sorority you're in anyways, but it's a principle thing. In the south "ladies" don't walk and smoke, don't smoke in their letters, and dress up for football games, haha. And to PNM's who don't know which sorority you're in, if they see you smoking in letters, it reflects poorly.

Just reporting the facts. |
Is smoking really that big of a deal? Then again, I don't really get the whole "drinking in letters" thing, so maybe that's just me.

SMOKING IN LETTERS IS SOOOO WRONG!
When I used to smoke (for like 5 minutes my freshman year), I wore all black 'cause I was trying to be Eurotrash. Parliament Lights all the way! Why wear some stupid sweatshirt when you can be workin' the Prada and the Dolce e Gabbana? |
