Simple, classic, and although I'm a Kentucky girl through and through, simply the most vile drink ever created :)

Mint Julep

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice (must be crushed!)
Bourbon
Silver Julep Cups

Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Bourbon. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

Excellent recipe.

Now with all due respect, I must disagree with one thing. Mint Juleps are not vile. I will grant you that perhaps they are an acquired taste. But not vile. At least not after one has sipped a few.

But they are so worth the wait.

And you may always have a margarita while you wait. It is always lovely to have a pre-tuner before your drink. ;)

I love mint juleps, especially on a hot day! I just don't like the manufactored syrup that you can buy.

Course, since SC on the rocks is in the same catagory and not half the work, they're fine, too! ;)

Never had a mint julep...I guess I need to try one for myself...so count me in! ;)

OK, time for this thread to die a quiet death. It's WAY off topic, y'all.
