I am the first to get a chuckle out of "BJU"?

I am actually surprised they allow greek lettered societies on campus.


This is like the high school that i went to. This was a HUGE campus because it was K-5 up to 12th grade AND there was a college on campus too. I went to a southern baptist school, so there were all kinds of rules. They are ultra strict. Dancing was considered a sin, so we had the Jr/Sr Banquet instead of prom. The girls' knees could not be shown at anytime, cause it meant that you were easy:rolleyes:
It was always a trip to get my French/Bible teacher to talk about rock music. Her face would turn dark read and she would babble on why rock music was evil.
ALL Christian music was not acceptable. If it was not southern gospel or straight from the hymnals, it was blasphemy. Oh yeah, the guys could only have sideburns half the length of the ear or else it was direspectful. The girls could not have short haircuts that might confuse someone into thinking that they were a guy:confused:

Then the college had added rules that were insane. Stereos were not allowed in the dorm rooms. Girls ALWAYS had to wear dresses or skirts. If you wanted to go on a date, you had to sign out and be back no later than 10 p.m. AND you had to have a chaperon.

I need to go find the list of rules for that college. You guys will get a kick of it.


edited to add, i was looking at BJU's dress code. That is pretty identical to my old school. The same went for the grade school and college. I am actually surprised the women are actually allowed to wear pants. At my old school, most of the female students's parents allowed them to only wear cullottes. :eek:
Having the men see women in pants was highly discourged cause pants make you look masculine.

Actually, I'm not sure I'd put BYU in that category. BYU requires that a student be observant, but not what they are observant of. There are believing Jews and Buddhists who have attended the school and graduated. Sort of get suprised looks from the students, but are pretty much off limits to prosethetize to. The Law school is even more secular in many ways...

Even if this were the case, so what? Why are women encouraged to look "feminine" (what with the skirts, pantyhose, and longer hair)?

He is not as crotchity as He pretends, He just likes to get juices flowing and a Dialog going.

He does know about Fraternitys and Sororitys as He has helped both at the many schools and positions He has been to and worked with.

I cannot remember which two Sororitys that He helped get on a particular campus as felt there was a need to expand Womens Groups there.

Oh yes he keeps reminding me of my typoing skills via emails!:D

He does have a lot of knowledge to impart, but does it in his quirky way!:D

If one reads between his funny style of placing posts, then you can understand him!


I also find it funny, not, HAHA, about some of the stringent rules and covenets of some of the Religious Based Schools about dos and donts in this day of enlightenment. Maybe if Women hadnt been given the right to vote or get drivers licenses there would be know problem with them acting the way they do at their schools.

I wonder if they beleive in evolution and teach it?

i wonder why A&F is blatantly anti-Christ? They don't give any reason, but I guess that's how these people live their lives....just blindly do what people tell them.

true, but there have been other labels with the same near-pornographic catalogs and they are not singled out. Perhaps though, that falls under the category of "You do not need expensive clothing".

While there are other companies who have similar adverstising A&F seems to have had the most press about it from parents, etc which is probably why Bob Jones U has named them specifically.

As Christian, rasied attending a conservative Baptist church, I that I feel I have never blindly followed rules, etc such as some may see the students at Bob Jones doing. Sure as child I did what my parents told me to as far as what I wore, going to church but as I got older I looked for a way that these Bible-based ideas applied to my current life and chose my beliefs and live style from there. I would venture a guess that the students attending Bob Jones have done that same. Their choices may be different from ours in many ways but is that really a reason to call them out?

this is kinda getting off the subject but it is too good to keep....This is from Bob Jones University, but this is pretty much the same for all Baptist colleges. This is totally not about making fun of the Baptist demonimation, but seriously these rules are ridiculous.

Residence hall students may not watch videos above a G rating when visiting homes in town and may not attend movie theaters.

Televisions and DVD/videocassette players are not permitted in the residence halls; computer DVD players may not be used to view movies.


Work
Students may work in town until 10:25 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Freshmen and sophomores may not use their vehicles to go to and from work.
Students may not serve alcoholic beverages when waiting tables at restaurants.

for those who do not know, this music is very light and the kind of songs you would hear in most churches. It is too modern for this school. Like I said, if it is not Southern Gospel or straight from the hymnals, it is wrong...

One of my sisters (and bestest friend) was forced to go to Bob Jones by her parents. She is a little hell raiser and needless to say, she didn't last very long! Her stories are a trip! She talked about the wall that surounds the campus. According to her, their are several people that are forced to go there and stay in trouble, other wise known as spiritual probation.

I also taught a CPR class this summer and one of my students transfered from BJU to Barton. She was forced there by her church and parents and didn't really have much to say about what went on there. She said that the reason she transfered was for Barton's nursing program and it was closer to her fiancee.

Barton was once called Atlantic Christan College, but I have never heard any outrageous stories about rules and whatnot. There were several greek organizations on campus then.
