I have a legal question regarding badges: if one reports a badge stolen and then it turns up for sale on ebay, can that person rightfully claim the badge as his/hers? (I mean, if this is within the statute of limitations and all.) If this is legal, does anyone know if it is ever done?

Another question: is there is an organized system for someone who is perusing ebay/antique stores/whatever to find out from his/her org if a badge there is reported missing or stolen? I don't think we have one in DG, but wish we did!

Just some things I've been wondering about for a bit.

If one can "Prove" it is their Badge then there is recourse. There is no Statue of Limitations on stolen property. You contact the seller if they are nice people and ebay at the same time.

As far as GLOs having group buy backs from Bidding, it does and gets expensive.

It sounds good, but cost is a factor.

Oh, add a dash of Heart by Members to the mix.:)

This IS a great story and has happened more than people think!!! Someone just posted about a Phi Psi badge that turned up at a footbacll game that went home again.

Proud to be greek when I read these types of feel good stories!

Thanks Denise!

Jono and I have been friends for years having met through ebay.

He is B N # 41 from Fl. Inst. Tech. in Melbourn, Fl.

He has done things like this before but never asks for recognition.

Yes, He is a very special Brother!:)

Thank you all for your kind words, but this is not a story about me - or even about Clyde or Marge.

This is an amazing story about a pin that has been missing for a very long time. It's about a pin that was lost when Harry Truman was President and Lambda Chi Alpha was only 38 years old. It's about a pin the founder of a chapter had for less than a year, finally making its way home as we approach our centennial.

It's a cautionary tale that should remind everyone to have their pins engraved and worn with a chapter guard.

It's a story that stands very well on its own.

Finally, it's about hope. Many more things are possible with the tools we have at our disposal today if we just make a little effort and use them wisely.

Thanks again.

Jono

If you have a police report and can prove that the item is yours, then yes you can usually get it back. I know that a couple of our members have done that but I'm not realy sure the whole process they had to go through or the length of time it took.

Each individual GLO would have their own way of checking for badges on ebay (if they even have one) and that would be something that (I would hope) the members of that group would know about. But I also know that it's been almost 4 years since we started our group and some of our members still don't know we exist or what the procedure is (or what we rescue - i.e., they think we buy everything that shows up).

My badge is very important to me. When I die it will be buried with me or given to someone who can use it. I'm not sending it back to EO unless they give me, or since I'll be dead, my family, $$$ back. That being said, I don't really understand for organized groups that buy back badges. I have no need for 26 different ADPi badges. They'd sit in the jewelry box just like my other one does. I also don't understand spending my hard earned money just to donate the pin back to EO. I'd rather just donate $127.53 that I would spend on a badge, to EO for programs. If I were to come across a badge I couldn't live without I'd buy it, but I'm not going to make a habit out of badge rescue. In regards to buying badges for other GLOs... I saw a Phi Mu badge on ebay a/b a year ago. It was gorgeous, and had I had the money I would have bought it. No, I would not have given it to a Phi Mu or sent it to their HQ I would have kept it, and been within my right. I just see no cause for alarm when someone, not of your respective GLO obtains a badge. They don't know the meaning, having it doesn't threaten the greek infastucture, and when it boils down to it, it's just a pretty piece of jewelry that might just make them some money.
