Why not something in May or June? Maybe Memorial Day Weekend? Memorial Day is crazy in Miami, but it's pretty tame everywhere else.

I can do Memorial Day weekend or summer. Which one folk?

Some suggestions

1. Compile a list of dates that work for people. Keep in mind that next year various orgs will be having either a conference, convention, workshop, etc.

2. Compile a list of cities within Florida that are possible places for the meet and greet.

3. Organize committees that should be spearheaded by the Florida folks.

4. Be flexible. Remember some folks don't have the same $$ as others. Plan activities for everyone. Some folks are married, children, etc. etc.

I had more but today is busy at work. THESE ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS!!

Yeah. Sorors need to remember NEXT July (2005)= Bahamas! :D  ;)

Gina1201 01-30-2004 03:22 PM

Summer would be good for me also. I can stay with my uncle and travel up to O-town if that's where we meet.

Steeltrap 01-30-2004 03:24 PM

Summer...

in the F-L-A means humidity and I don't do really well in the humidity. If I'm out too much, that sweat starts crawling and I feel like I'm being attacked by spiders.

But it also means cheaper travel costs, which I'm very down with. :p

If it's gonna be in the Sunshine State then...

you have some nice choices:

Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Daytona, Miami
( these are the bigger cities that have stuff to do: shopping, restaurants, theme parks, beaches, maybe even sporting events, etc....no offense to the other cities ;) )

1 - Orlando = http://www.go2orlando.com/
About 12 theme parks, 5 water parks, shopping, food, etc.
http://www.go2orlando.com/attractions/themeparks/

2 - Tampa = http://www.visittampabay.com/
"You want Florida, you want it all, and you only want to unpack once. No problem. You want Tampa Bay. Here, a single day's itinerary might include breakfast at a waterside cafe, Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, a streetcar ride to Channelside for shopping, and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Devil Rays, or Lightning game. Then on to historic Ybor City where the Cuban sandwiches are hot and crisp, the cigars are hand-rolled, and the colorful streets are lined with fun. What next? White, sugar sand beaches, sport fishing, jet skiing, parasailing, boating... and, oh yes, the most succulent seafood under the sun. Plan your visit for February and join the party as rowdy swashbucklers invade Tampa for the 100th Annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Whether you are visiting for a vacation or a convention, the Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau is your official source for destination information on Tampa and Hillsborough County.
Tampa Bay... no better way to do Florida."

3 - Daytona = beaches, shopping, restaurants, biking, racecar stuff: http://www.daytonabeach.com/
"Big Beach. Big Fun. A Warm winter wonderland is waiting."

4 - Ft. Lauderdale = http://www.sunny.org/visitors/index.cfm
"Here you will find 23 miles of stunning
Atlantic shoreline from Hollywood / Hallandale Beach in the south to Deerfield Beach in the north. Your official guide from the beaches to the Everglades plus hotels, golf, shops, dining, sports, and much more...is just a click away."

5 - Miami (my hometown before leaving to college :D ) = http://www.gmcvb.com/Index.asp
http://www.ci.miami.fl.us/
Miami Seaquarium, Metro Zoo, Tons of shopping, Miami Beach, South Beach, parks, nightlife, etc.
**************************************************
If I had to choose from these, I would choose either Miami or Orlando (unless there's a specific event going on somewhere else). Here's why:

Orlando = it has everything, the fun, nightlife, food, etc. If you want shopping, it has it...if you want to have "theme park fun" then this is the place to be.

Miami
1) Although it doesn't have a "theme park" per se, there are PLENTY of malls for those who love to shop...and when I say plenty, there's plenty to see. There's Omni Mall (huge), Adventura Mall (big), Dadeland Mall, International Mall, etc. So if you want SHOPPING to be the biggest factor, then I would say Miami.

For those looking, Miami is nicely diversed. PLENTY of different types of men and women. There may be some sporting events going on in the summer, too. (not sure about Orlando).

South Beach if you got some cash to spend, lol...mostly fun at night, although you may see people in bikinis and shorts on rollerblades during the daytime in the summer, lol. South Beach has many clubs and restaurants. Nice for socializing. This is where you will meet tourists and people from all over, lol (at night).

Miami Beach is aiight.
************************************************
(Orlando) So you can meet up somewhere, chill, socialize, break off into groups, go to theme park, come back, shop, the go to restaurant at night as a group, etc. in Orlando.

Or (Miami) you can meet up somewhere, chill, socialize, go to the beach, socialize, shop, socialize, and then go clubbing at night. In the morning, repeat.

It all depends, in my opinion, the main thing you want to do:
If it's more for hanging out and chilling (and go to the beach), I would say Miami. If you want to actually get on rides and have that type of fun, then I would choose Orlando.

P.S. My third choice would be Tampa because of Busch Gardens :D

Just wanted to share my opinion with everyone. Let me know if you need help with anything :D

I'm very serious. In 2000, I went to Bermuda (my godmother is Bermudian) and attended Cup match. Boy. Hot. Sweaty. Felt. Like. Being. Attacked.
:p

Manolos, or Manolo Blahniks are shoes. I first heard about them on Sex and the City. They are VERY, VERY expensive (at least for me). Here's a link: Manolo

thanks, Gina, and thanks for the pic, too. They look like they'd be real painful to wear, but if that's what peeps like to wear, cool.

So it may have to be a "regional" thing and post pics?
Well if you can't make it, can you still send some of that buttery pound cake:D ;)

They are painful to wear (although some people become accustomed to them). However, it's called suffering for fashion Phrat.
