I'm not sure if any other group does this or not. Only initiated Phi Sigma Sigma's can wear our crest. However there is one exception, mothers who are pinned with our mother's pin also can wear the crest since it is on the pin.

As for the colony pins - Phi Sigma Sigma's is a tiny little sphinxhead that we get to keep. It's kind of fun going to our annual conclave and people ask me where they can get the pin. I tell them I received because I was a founding sister of my chapter.

Also, I think Phi Sigma Sigma is one of the few who initiates graduate students as active collegiate sisters.

You can get them already separated by color, either at bulk candy stores or from M & M directly;)

I know AZD initiates graduate students as well.

I wish DG had a colony pin, because I would have loved to have kept that! We were pinned with the regular pledge pin!

The wife of William Faulkner and his daughter were both DG's

ADPi does this too.

I think so, at least for NPC...I haven't heard of many GLOs(NPC or not) that do. Although SAI *does* initiate graduate students. We're fixing to give a bid to one, actually. :)

Just curious, is it very often that you have graduate students as members? THis will be the first since I've been a sister of SAI, and I don't hear of it happening often. I think it's because most people just assume graduate students can't when maybe that's not so.

Initiating Graduate Students

Phi Kappa Psi simply requires that the gentleman be a full time student at the host institution.

Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, was initiated into Phi Psi's Virginia Alpha chapter when he was attending law school, and was chapter president.

When he enrolled at Johns Hopkins for his doctoral studies, he transferred his membership to the Maryland Alpha chapter, and was again elected chapter president.

Phi Sigma Sigma also uses gold! Our colors are king blue and gold - very similar to AZD's and DDD's. Also, I dont think the other sororities colors are "common" at all. Silver and bordeaux? Wine? Mode? Cafe au lait?? Just a few examples. Sorority color names are so interesting to me.

We also have a colony pin, in the shape of a very small sphinxhead. I like the design of AZD's a little better, but I like that we have them nonetheless :)

We also have mother pins. Not sure about fathers.

ETA: When trying to think of something unique about Phi Sig, I came up with the fact that we have a conclave every year, instead of every 2-3 years. Now I am sure that's not unique only to Phi Sig, I'm more curious as to which groups have them every year as well!

AST's also use the color Gold.

Hey ,
We are Pi Theta Sigma and we are a sorority of West Indian women and our mascot is the hummingbird

radioZTA 01-06-2004 11:18 AM

Here is a rather odd first:

Beta Sigma Omicron national sorority claimed that they were the first Greek group to get a personalized license plate with their letters on it. Of course, it wasn't the true Greek letters but getting "BSO" on your car was pretty good for 1956.

Alpha Xi Delta colony members get to keep their colony pin and many use it as their guard instead of the chapter letters.
