It's kills me to think that we live in the greatest country in the world and people get a pissy attitude about a comment that was made. Ladies and Gentlemen, the name of the game is FREE SPEECH!!!!! people do have the right to speak their mind about any subject they wish to discuss. We may not agree with was been said, but at least they understand about what's going on. Just like Michael Moore 's comment at the Oscar award show, he seized the moment to express his feelings about the war. I respect anybody that willing to let his/her feelings show on a certain subject. What Natalie Maines said was maybe of poor judgement, But I respect her because she voiced her opinion. :o

The Dixie Chicks are being very professional during the controversy. I'm sure it'll blow over.

So tonight on the Academy of Country Music awards the Chicks were nominated for three awards. At the end, their name was read for the final award and there was lots of boo-ing. Vince Gill, who was giving the award said it best when he told the crowd, "You know who gets blessed when you forgive.......you." Go Vince!! That's all I have to say. :)

adduncan 05-22-2003 11:14 AM

Vince is right.

But people who "boo" are also exercising their right to freedom of speech.

If it's good for one, it's good for both.

Lady Pi Phi 05-22-2003 11:29 AM

I'm all for free speech, and I am a Dixie Chicks fan,

but maybe we should take the advice our mothers gave us. If we don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all.

They didn't win anything.

I don't necessarily agree with what the lead singer said...but it's her right, and while I may not like it, she has the right as an American to say it.

Just as people have the right to not listen to their music, boycott their concerts, boo them, etc.

Collin
(if I only went to Boston U., and don't have as many posts as some of you all, does my opinion still count? ;) )

with natalie's shirt saying f.u.t.k, was it really directed to toby keith. what if it meant 'friendly united texan kids':p

my take of freedom of speech- it has turn into a joke. i am still grateful for it, but it is getting twisted and turned to justify people's words. its getting blown out of proportion. person A can say what it on his mind, but not without person B shooting it down. how is person A getting freedom to say what is on his mind????

I didn't even know that's what it stood for! I heard about the whole f.u.t.k. nonsense, and I saw her wearing the shirt, but I never put them together. There is such thing as f.c.u.k., French Connection, and I thought that was what Natalie was wearing. I now know that was't the case.

Anyone care to tell me what the beef is between Toby and the Chicks? PM me if you wish.

texas*princess 05-23-2003 02:43 PM

toby keith & the dixie chicks

SATX -- here's the info for TK & the DC!

Personally I think the whole Dixie Chicks thing is stupid. I still like some of their songs, but I think Maines behavior in retaliation is really childish saying Toby Keiths song was 'ignorant' I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!

girl, you always make me laugh!

The Dixie Chicks didn't win any awards that night, but Keith certainly did!!!! so HA! take that Maines.

edited to add: I thought it was funny when I saw the clip of the award's host announce Toby Keith and say something like "I think we all saw his name on someone's shirt earlier" haha!

I also don't think appearing naked is going to repair their damage anytime soon.. but that's just my opinion :)

=====================

http://countrylegends971.com/common/...th_lashes.html

Toby Keith ripped into the Dixie Chicks during his show in Huntsville, Alabama on Sunday night (March 23rd). After expressing his displeasure with the anti-war protesters who were just blocks away from the venue, Keith told the crowd, "I'm also angry about a singer in a band called the Dixie Chicks.

"She felt a need to tell the L.A. Times my song was ignorant and you were ignorant if you listened to it," he said, referring to the Chicks' Natalie Maines, and her comments about his song, "Courtesy Of The Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)."

"She was also recently on a European tour where there was an antiwar flavor and said some things about President Bush and the war," said Keith. "So, what do I think about her?"

About that time, a doctored photo of Maines and Saddam Hussein together popped up on a giant video screen, and the crowd cheered as Keith launched into his self-penned song his wrote for his father, "Courtesy Of The Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)."

In related news, Keith is scheduled to perform for President Bush and members of military families at the MacDill air force base in Tampa, Florida at 10 a.m. ET today. Military families from across the nation were invited to hear a short acoustic set at the base, which is where all war planning takes place. Keith was chosen to perform after members of the President's advance team saw and enjoyed his show in Florida over the weekend. The President, who's a big fan himself, said he wanted Keith to play at the base

Keep digging Natalie. When will your stupid ass ever learn. You ARE not a pop group. You are a country group with a FEW crossover hits. Whos the country fan base? Not anti war, anti president. soem of ya'll are right about the freedon of expression thing. She does have the right to say whatever she wants. But she also has to be willing to pay a price; possibly her carreer.

Am laughing at this country version of East Coast vs. West Coast. Biggie and Tupak are laughing their asses off somewhere right now.

Thanks t*p!

DELTAQTE 05-28-2003 05:50 AM

I like Toby Keith but he really needs to shut up because I remember when "Angry American" came out and more than a few people questioned why he made the song(to get attention, etc)

he can say what he wants but these girls are already up to their ears in chit, why feel the need to contribute:rolleyes:

moe.ron 05-28-2003 06:12 AM

I think DC's career would've been a lot better if they didn't appologized. Just think of Willie Nelson. He say's want he want to say and refuse to apologized for his beliefs. If they went with that direction, the would've picked up a lot of fan.

Other than this, the whole Toby Keith, Dixie Chick thing remind of me of the good old heavy metal band clash between, I think, Poison and MotleyCrue.

As for the awards, who really cares about awards. The whole award industry is just a farce. It's just bunch of critics that want to feel special so they hold award events to show that they "know" what they are talking about. Sorry, but Milli Vanili pretty much discredit all entertainment award shows.
