Kind of a sorority rumor on my campus (I think it's true, but never investigated to find out if it really is) is that the reason we do not have sorority houses is because there is a city ordinance that says more than 5 women (somewhere around there) living together in the same residence is considered a brothel. I laugh everytime I hear it! |

First Run top 100 best bars.....please! Some girl just told me it was Frosh Run bc only freshman go there. My ex lives in Miami so I went there during the summer and its fun but definately doesn't rival the bars at OSU. :D |

As you wander around our beautiful campus, you will see much evidence of the impact of our fraternities and sororities. The Beta Bells, The Phi Delt Gates, the Delta Delta Delta Sundial, the Phi Tau Circle, and the new Chi O' Corner in front of the Shriver Center. 2. The one about the headless motercyclist I put up b/c I have also read about that happening at another school in Ohio. I am not positive which school it was, but I believe it was BG. |

I never heard anything about the UNL bell tower but then again I didn't go there. I'll ask my friends if they know. The only story I know about a haunting at UNL is from the Chi Omega house. I got this one from some high school friends whose sisters were both Chi-O's there and lived in the house. One of the sisters said that she shared a room with a gal and after a while the tv would start to turn on in the middle of the night. Like she origionally thought that the roommate just accidently left it on or rolled over onto the remote. But then one night she unplugged the TV and it still turned on. There was also something about the answering machine for the bedroom in the house. I guess the roommate made fun of the ghost and put their names and the name of the ghost on the machine....something like they wouldn't get their messages or their'd be a high pitched screetch |

I've only been waiting like 8 months for my answer ;) Finding the answer for me may sway me another step into my appreciation of Nebraska :D Kitso KS 3 6 1 |
We don't have many fun rumors but we have a few:
We have a statue of our founder in the middle of campus and supposedly it is good luck to rub his head before a test. Now this one I know for sure is true! They say that the fourth floor of the freshman girl's dorm, Porter, is haunted by the ghost of a girl who did not get a bid from a sorority she wanted (it was either ADPi or Phi Mu) so she hung herself on bid night in their suite like 10 years ago. The only thing up there is the old ADPi and Phi Mu suites and some storage. But everything is deadbolted. The suites haven't been used in a long long time. They say that she haunts people who go into the suites. I know this is true because I went with a bunch of friends on bid night into the ADPi suite which was mysteriously unlocked!!!! And then a few weeks later I went into the Phi Mu suite. Both are normally deadbolted like crazy but the bolts were literally still locked and pulled away from the door. ANYWAY, to make a long story short, apparently me and one of my pledge sisters were the only ones to go into the room where "Pearl" was murdered and were haunted by her all fall semester. (We both moved spring semester and Pearl didnt follow thankfully) I was locked in a bathroom stall, saw mysterious shadows, doors opening when I passed them, and heard mysterious bumps all aroundthe pipes in my room. My friend had little pictures drawn on her ceiling and 5 red streaks like finger prints mysteriously show up on her wall. Yeah, scary as hell. Being haunted is NOT fun. (We both moved spring semester and Pearl didnt follow thankfully and the weird thing was that all the stuff that was around from Pearl haunting us disappeared, like the pictures, streaks, and weird bathroom occurences )Pearl also haunted a few of my other friends who went up there another time and did things like turn on things that were unplugged and tear down showercurtains (not the rod just the curtain would fall down). People who lived on 3rd Porter would also always here footsteps like someone pacing and then rafters creaking like something was swinging and moans like someone was being hurt. SOOO creepy. SO, future Mercer students, don't let curiousity overtake you and stay off of 4th Porter!!! |
i just remembered a rumor that i was actually told by a tour guide when i went on my college visit to OU. He said that if you step on the Great Seal of Ohio by the gates at Union Street and College Street you will never graduate from Ohio University. I see people carefully sidestepping that seal all the time just in case. I personally always avoid it.

My tour guide at Princeton told me of a rumor regarding a certain gate. The gate has a large central opening and two small side openings. At commencement, the graduating class processes out through the center... the rumor is that if you ever walk through the center before graduation, you will not graduate. Everyone uses the side openings instead.

that is a typo. it is definately the delta zeta sundial. i went there for four years and passed it nearly everyday my sophmore year. it just makes sense. delta zeta, turtles. i'm not trying to be rude, but i know this for a fact.

well, you're right. i was wrong, but evidently we both checked with miami to find out. i just called and asked and they said someone else had just called asking the same thing.
wow, i feel really stupid figuring i went there all four years and never knew it was tridelt. everyone i knew would always refer to it as the DZ sundial. so at least i wasn't alone in thinking that. i know sigma kappa had/has a fire circle over at the park next to campus. i can't remember how to spell it out. since we aren't there anymore we can't keep it up so it probably looks like sh**. what does agd have at miami? pm me sometime. i love to talk to other miami greeks. shelley j sigma k |

Wow, we don't have anything half as cool as other schools. Maybe its because my school isn't old enough. But we do have a lot of true stories about whent he hippies ran stuff. But I digress, this is campus rumors...
Rumor #1- The typical 'my college was rated in playboy." Playboy did the list once, i can't remember where I found the site, but I know my school wasn't on there. There were 10...and thats it. Rumor#2- The reason why we can't have sorority housing is because more then 5 girls in a house is considered by law a brothel. I don't know, this might hold some truth, since my school is less then 10miles from Atlantic City  edited to add: Rumor #3 either the school was supposed to be a prison for boys or an airport if the college failed. |
actually, i do believe that the law about 5 or more girls in a house being a brothel is true. my bestfriend had issues with this at her school (cal u of pa) when her chapter moved into a new house. they were told they weren't allowed to put up their letters on the new house b/c of this law that was put into place back in the 80's or something. their house was there w/ letters up before the law was in place so they were allowed to keep them up, but not on the new house.
stupid stuff, but not just a rumor. shelley j sigma k |

What gets me about my school is that they're trying to start a tradition. we have a Pegasus seal on the floor of the Student Union, and every now and then (the first few weeks of school or whenever there's an orientation) It's roped off and their are signs up proclaiming "a new UCF tradition!" They explain that anyone who walks across the seal won't graduate. Of course, this has aggravated my contrary streak. I now go out of my way to detour across the seal. I swear I'm going to tap dance on it when I graduate! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...ows/slider.gif |
