It's kinda trial and error with them, lol. |
Monica
Have y'all heard her new song? It has a sample of PYT in it. I didn't like it. At all. I've only heard it once, maybe it grows on you, I don't know.
|
It grows on ya! lol :p
I went to the ESSENCE FEST this past weekend and had a ball. Mary J, Babyface, Faith, and the Isley brothers were there that night. I was sooooooooooo looking forward to seeing the Isley Brothers but theor show was POO!!!! I was upset. I enjoyed Mary, but I feel she's on her way to a gospel album. She was testifyin up there. The shocker was babyface. He put on one hell of a show. |

Has anyone heard the new song by LovHer called "How It's Gonna Be" (I think)
Anyways, I have heard this song a few times now, and I am so torn!! I LIKE the song, but I HATE the lead chick's voice. The one with short hair, the other one is okay. But dang it, I just can't decide whether I am actually FEELING this song or not. Blasted inner conflict! Oh yeah, plus I remember this song they did on Sisqo's FIRST CD, which was THE BOMB. "Is Love Enough", maybe? Don't rememeber if that was the name... anyhoo, this song musta had the other chick with longer hair cause she sounds better. |

I picked up Truth Hurts CD but put it back down because I didn't want to be disappointed. After reading the posts, I see that I need to pick it up though. Is it just me or did she flunk in her live performance for the BET Awards Pre-Show? I was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!
Mary...she's a trip! She's always preaching in her songs now. Monica: I don't like her new single. Her music is still very "kiddish" to me and I want her to grow up with her music. |
Man, this thread was waaaaaaaaaay back on page five!!! Oh, the horror....
I picked up Darius Rucker's Back to Then today and it is TIGHT! He has a track on there with Jill Scott that I really love. I liked him when he was with Hootie, but I am feeling him even more as a solo artist. You MUST pick this one up. I have a few  other CDs I've been meaning to tell y'all about: 1. Tiorah - Noonday Cafe: A few of my favorite songs are Noonday Cafe, Friends to Lovers, and Should've Told Them About Me. The only problem with the CD is that it has a bunch of intros that kind of mess up the flow, but over all, I love it! 2. Yahzarah - Hear Me: I really like Urgency, Love is You, Natural ... I can't think of any other titles, but again, I LOVE IT! 3. Ledisi - Soulsinger and her sophomore CD, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue: I own her first CD, Soulsinger, and I've been vibing with it for a while now. I haven't puchased the second one yet, but I've heard a few tracks off of it and I am definitely going to pick it up. The songs that I've heard and like are Sugar/Brown Sugar, Meeting Marcus on A Thursday and a remake of In a Sentimental Mood. I had a chance to see this sista live at the House of Blues and man, I've never experienced anything like it. Her band is just as awesome as she is. 4. Julie Dexter - Peace of Mind: I haven't purchased this CD yet, but I saw her live about two weeks ago and was blown away. Peace of Mind and Burning are my jams. She only has one CD out, so at least I've heard most of her songs. There are only 7 songs on this CD. 5. Karen Bernod - Some Othaness for U: You may remember Karen from when she was a backup singer for Erykah Badu. This CD took a while to grow on me, but now I'm really feeling it. I'm a HUGE Rachelle Ferrell fan and Karen kind of reminds me of her. Very funky, almost spiritual. There are only 9 songs on this CD. 6. N'Dambi - Little Lost Girl Blues: I'm sure N'Dambi has already been discussed, but I saw her live about two months ago and I just wanted to recommit myself as a fan! 7. Chocolate Soul The Music Compilation - Various Artists: I was over a friend's house the other day (the one who puts me up on a lot of underground music) and he was playing one of the smoothest CDs I've heard in a long time. Of course, it was the aforementioned. Man, it is so tight. It can satisfy any misucal appetite. There's a little bit of everything - jazz, funk, hip-hop, and soul. Here is a list of who's on it: 1.) Life (D-Influence) 2.) President's Men (B-Hut) 3.) Ever After (Seek) 4.) Mockingbird (Edith's Wish) 5.) Heaven (Satoshie Tomiie) 6.) Amazing (Jeffery Butts) 7.) Night Alliance (Kemit) 8.) Rhyme Placement (Mass Influence) 9.) Live at WRAS Urban Flava (The Chronicle) 10.) So Love (Kindred) 11.) The Goodbye Song (Jiva) 12.) Burning (Julie Dexter) 13.) Forbidden Taboo (The Committee) *Edited to add one more artist - LOL* Ursula Rucker - Supa Sista: Now, I haven't personally heard anything from her, but my friend (see #7 above) says that her CD is another must have. I don't know much about her, but I do know that she been on one or two of the Root's CDs as a poet. So, since I can't personally vouch for it, listen at your own risk. LOL. So, now you can see why it's taken me so long to post all this (I should be seeking royalties, LOL). As you see, I'm about to be broke after I purchase the CDs I don't have yet. I'll be back if I hear anything new or think of any more artists. |
And another thing...
Since I love music so much, but my budget doesn't always allow me to buy all the CDs I want, I'm really into used CDs nowadays. I have found some EXCELLENT deals at www.secondspin.com. Just wanted to share:D . Unfortunately, they don't have any of the titles listed above:(.

Whitney Houston's song sounds horrible. She really needs to start singing more mature songs. I think she'll be 39 this month and she still singing silly songs.
|
You're right, Whitney's song is childish and just plain crap! I heard it on AOL a couple of weeks ago and I was very disappointed.
I also listened to India.Arie's new song "Little Things" on AOL last Friday. It's very nice! Her new album, "Voyage to India" will be out on Sept. 24. |
Bamboozled, call me sheltered, but I don't know ANY of the artists that was on your latest list. Are they "indy" artists?
