I really, really hate how the contestants don't know if they're performing in talent or not until their name is called, and then they have to do it right away. This seems especially cruel to the singers - give them time to do vocal warmups, at least!

Miss Louisana goes to Oklahoma City University... Opera or vocal major I will bet you! That is a trained voice.

My ears are bleeding after Miss Oklahoma. Awful singing. Miss Louisiana on the other hand, was amazing.
AOII Miss Tennessee is through to the top 10! The Greeks are on fire. |
I guess the commercial break went too long, because I don't know who is performing!
Edit: Miss Tennessee? I didn't see them air the introduction! |
The dresses all looked alike because they were all designed by Sherri Hill (for some reason I saw something else but ah well) this year. He consulted with each contestant about their gown to fit their personalities. I also saw a quote by Mallory Hytes Hagan, Miss America 2013, that mentioned it was meant to be beneficial to the contestants because the evening gown dress is such a big part of the girls' pageant expenses—she said hers was $400 and that it was an exception because most of them are $2,000 or so.
I also hate to say this…but I would have liked for Miss Oklahoma to have picked a different talent, something other than singing. Though, she could have been having a case of nerves—it just seemed like she was off pitch in some spots. Miss Tennessee's talent dress is to die for. |
Agreed Irishpipes. OCU trained singers are typically great.

Like Kristin Chenoweth and Kelli O'Hara both Tony winners.
|
Miss Texas also cannot sing well. I hate when people sing as their talent when they cannot sing.
|
Miss Louisiana was good. Miss Oklahoma definitely could have used time to warm up.
I can't decide what I think of Miss Texas. I liked the beginning of the song, but then it got bad. |

I think Susan Powell Miss America 1981 who sang opera for talent was also OCU grad.

I want a baton twirler. Preferably with fire batons!
|
I agree Clemsongirl, and they only know 1 song that they practice day and night.

Fire batons would be so awesome. Especially with all that hairspray.
Miss Oklahoma would not have improved with a warmup. Pitch that bad cannot be corrected. (I am a professional and teach voice.) The very loud backing vocals were an obvious attempt to aid her search for pitch and to distract from her voice. Lovely girl, just not a singer. |
