I've got one tattoo that i put a lot of thought into when i was desigining it, and it has a lot of meaning for me.I really don't see myself getting another one.

I think tatts on girls are sexy, as long as they aren't on their biceps or breasts(to me that screams white trash). Just my personal opinion.

I was also one of those people that i thought would never have one. My buddies in HS used to always talk about the tatts they were gonna get when they turned 18, and i could never picture putting anything on my body that was permanent. After my experiences in my fraternity i came to feel that i wanted everyone to know not only that i was a Sigma Nu, but i was proud as hell of Sigma Nu, A&M, and Texas.

after forever thinking about it and wanting to get one, i finally got my tattoo :) It's a Trinity knot (also know as a love knot) of celtic tradition. It symbolizes a person's spiritual growth, eternal life and never ending love. It's black, pretty small, very simple and it's on the small of my back right above my butt :)

This is the symbol I hope to get tattooed on my arm over the holidays. It is an Akan (Ghanaian) symbol that represents deference to God. Literally means "but God" as in "fearing nothing but God."

It will be my first.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back. It's a black tribal design with a heart in the middle and a butterfly on each side so it's all symmetrical.

As for meaning, I decided I was going to get one after I spent a whole concert drooling over the lead singer (I was about 5 inches away). He took off his shirt, I saw a tattoo and decided I was going to get one. I'd always wanted one, but his was really cool looking and it was the shove I needed to actually do it. I saw the design on a temporary tattoo at Claire's of all places. I wanted a black tribal design but couldn't find any that were feminine at all, and that was the first one I found that I thought was cute. If I had a digital camera, I'd post a pic, but I don't want to waste a roll of film and end up with 15 pictures of my butt. :p

And for all the people who asked...yes, the small of your back is a fairly painful place to get a tattoo. Anywhere that has only a thin layer between your skin and the bone underneath it will hurt a little more. So when the needle's right on top of your spine, yeah, it hurts. But depending on placement, that can be a bony area in general, so mine also really hurt the further away the lines were dragged from the center. But if it's what you want, it's tolerable.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I've heard black ones are more painful because they have to go deeper and use more ink to try to keep the color from fading. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?

I've never heard of that. Both my tattoos are a fair size, not too big and not too small (at least for me anyway) and they are both black. The one on my back hurt more then the one on my leg because of the bone. I just think it depends on a persons pain threshold. If you can take a lot of pain, then it isn' really going to hurt. I was all prepared for major pain when I had my first one done but I was nothing. Yeah it hurt a bit and it was over the bone. It only took 20 minutes to complete so in reality it was nothing.

I'm a bit jealous of the 20 minute thing - mine took an hour and a half and I had to take a break towards the end so the artist could rest up a bit. Going back in that room was not easy once I had a break from the needle, but I also didn't want a tattoo that was half done.

Maybe the black hurting more thing has to do with outlining - I know the outline and any small details hurt a lot more than where anything was filled in. Who knows. I was too embarrassed to pay attention to the pain - my tattoo guy was cute and my butt was completely hanging out the whole time. Oh well. :)

An hour and a half? How big is yours? Did they use lots of colours? My friend's took an hour and a half but it's a huge. She a wolfs head with a tribal wave going through the back of i on her shoulder. It's really big and that's why it took so long.

Mine's all black and it's about 3 inches tall and 4 inches wide. It was supposed to be smaller, but it had a lot of detail so they had to enlarge it. It's a decent size, but I'm sure all the small lines took up most of the time. Plus the 15 minute or so break was thrown in there, plus the ten minute cleaning/prepping/etc. So really, it was probably more like an hour of work, but that's still a lot. It came out well though, so I'm happy.
