Day 8: Bid Day

Sorry for the wait, today was very busy!!

For me, today was nowhere near as stressful as the rest of the days of recruitment. Frankly, I was excited for recruitment to be over. I know everyone says it will be "the most fun week of your life" but it definitely wasn't for me! It was a great experience that allowed me to meet new people and learn things about myself, and I am so glad I took part in it and didn't give up! Since, I already knew I would be getting a bid from Millionaire Matchmaker, I was excited to go to my new house and begin today's festivities! Today was filled with nerves, tears, screams, and smiles - definitely a sight to see. I opened up my bid card and double checked to make sure it was actually from Millionaire Matchmaker and there hadn't been a mistake or some unforeseeable circumstance! Thankfully there wasn't, and I made my way to the MM house.

At the MM house, I met up with my "buddy" for the next few weeks who gave me my goody bag and a new shirt with Millionaire Matchmaker on it! With hundreds of sisters - both old and new - their families, and Fraternity actives and pledges, the house was incredibly chaotic. Being on the quiet side, I managed to slip through the cracks and lose my buddy. My family wasn't there either, so I really had no one to talk to because everyone else was either with their buddy, their family, or both. I started to feel uncomfortable and anxious. I began to question whether sorority life was right for me or not - it seemed much to crowded and hectic for my taste. Luckily I was able to escape to my dorm room for a few hours and collect my thoughts before we went on retreat!

A few hours later, all the new members gathered together in the house to begin our bid day retreat. One of the new members was already drunk, which made me further worry and question my choice to join a sorority. However, I remembered that there were so many other girls that would be my sisters, and she was just one of them! As the night went on things started to look up. I met so many amazing sisters - both new members and actives. I really enjoyed my time in the house, and I was once again reassured that I ended up where I was meant to be! Bid Day is crazy and chaotic for everyone, and I realized that it would not be like that everyday!! I am so blessed to have such a happy ending to tumultuous week! I can't wait for the rest of retreat and to spend the next 4 years in an amazing sorority with amazing sisters!

This week has been exhausting, but I'm glad I had all of you amazing GCers here to share my trials and tribulations with! Please excuse the numerous spelling and grammar errors in my story- that's what sleep deprivation will do to you!

But I know many of you are curious about which sorority I am now apart of...

Congratulations on Theta! I'm sorry you got off to a little rocky start but glad things worked out for you. Enjoy your new member period and your time at Bama.

As a side note, what happened to this new member is one of the problems I see with these all family bid day blowouts. Those new members whose parents are unable to attend can easily get lost between the cracks, become discouraged and not come back if they don't have the maturity this young lady had. I think it is up to each organization to assure that no member is left out on bid day because she's there alone. One bid day buddy is not the answer.

I'm guessing krtxo might be an introvert too? That kind of bid day sounds like an introvert's ultimate nightmare no matter how happy you are to be selected by the sorority you love. :)

Congratulations, krtxo!
