i was just thinking about what to read next.
i have to say i also like the shopaholic series and i can't wait to read shopaholic ties the knot.

the bachelor- carly phillips (i heard about this one from kelly ripa's book club from live with regis and kelly, she has some really good beach reads) the new one out by carly phillips is the playboy, which is sort of connected to the bachelor (ie. different brother) but you don't have to read one to understand the other.
patricia cornwell and stuart woods books (mysteries) are also great!
one really good author that i've just discovered is nora roberts.
check out- public secrets, carnal innocence and the woman next door.
i'm not much into harry potter, haven't read any of the books or seen the movies, because i'm not into sci-fi. BUT, since i've heard so much about the books on here, i think i just might give one a try.

Oh, you should defininitely try a Harry Potter book. I don't really care for fantasy, but as a school librarian, I was going to read just one so I could see what all the hoo-haw was about. Well, I LOVE those books. Each one is just a really good story.

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next one in June....

They are really a change for me, because I mainly read mysteries and theatre biographies.

This turned me off at first too. I never would have read HP if I hadn't gotten really bored one night, raided my little sister's bookshelf and chose HP because it was the only thing I hadn't already read. Now I'm really glad, because the books are great -- but I probably wouldn't have ever picked one up on my own, just since they were so overhyped.

oooo I love reading. I remember the first book my grandmother taught me to read when I was 3 or 4- "Hop on Pop". I've always been a good, fast reader. This amazes my best friend who absolutely hates reading! I was impressed she got me a book for my birthday last year- I didn't think she'd be caught in a book store!

Anyways, my recommendations:

Harry Potter :D
the Gossip Girl series(there are 3 of them): The characters are all seniors in high school, but its a very good series. I loved it and I'm almost a sophomore in college! Kinda like a young sex and the city.

the Shopaholic series- Read all three. Loved them

However, my favorite book is Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam. The movie "October Sky" is based on that book(that happens to be my favorite movie too!). Its just a great story- and its true! The sequels are good too: The Coalwood Way , and Sky of Stone

I bought the Shopaholic ties the knot.... I wanted to buy the second one, but they didnt have it. I am only on chapter 3 because I havent had the time to actually sit down and read- but...... i am loving it so far!!;)

Diary of a Mad Bride - required reading for anyone getting married. It's such a cute book! :)

I'm also reading a book called Romeo right now. It's a psychological/serial killer thing. I *love* books like that, and this one is really good!

I don't care much for fantasy either, but I'm reading the first Harry Potter Book. It is so cute. I also wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It is so good. Hopefully I can get the 2nd book at Half Priced Books tommorrow

Yay for this thread! I am going to the library soon and stocking up on fluffy girly books to cheer myself up.

I'm such a fan of fluffy chick fiction - like cotton candy for my brain! Mmmm, cotton candy... Bridget Jones is good, and The Edge of Reason had me laughing out loud. I have also read and loved all of the Shopaholic books. I also got The Nanny Diaries recently, and absolutely loved it. Funny stuff.

She's Come Undone is a slightly heavier book (no pun intended), but it's amazingly well written and a great story. I couldn't put it down - I sat in class reading it. It's really wonderful.

I absolutely HATED Four Blondes. I thought it was crap.

Along the lines of Harry Potter, I often re-read The Chronicles of Narnia when I'm bored and looking for something to read. They're a bit preachy, but still good and they're nice reminders of my childhood.

I've been on a big Neil Gaiman kick lately. For those of you that listen to Tori Amos and keep hearing a mention of a guy named Neil, that's him. The line "If you need me me and Neil'll be/Hangin' out with the Dream King" is a reference to his brilliant Sandman series. I swear, I am moving to Minnesota and having his babies.

I'm also reading his American Gods. Other books I'm in the middle of: The Lovely Bones by Alice Seibold, The Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman, Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote. Of course, that's not counting all the stuff I've bought but haven't read yet, or the stack of overdue library books on my dresser.

Of course, all of this is just filler until the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Last night I just could not put down Eating the Chesire Cat ! I just wanted to know what was going to happen next!

I guess I'm going to have to order another book because it looks like I might finish this one tonight (and I just started reading it yesterday!)

:eek: I finished reading Eating the Chesire Cat and OHMYGAWD!!!! That book was so awesome!!! It kept me on the edge of my seat until I read the very last page!!!! :eek:

I prefer nonfiction and history. Right now, I'm reading Jacques Pepin's autobiography, "The Apprentice." If you're at all interested in cooking -- Food Network junkies, I'm talking to you --you'd love it.

I also like what I call "urban women's fiction," going back to the early 1990s when Terry McMillan did Waiting to Exhale, which came out about five years prior to Sex and the City.

I'm looking forward to Trading Up, Candace Bushnell's new book and Maneater, by Gigi Levangie Grazer. Right now, I'm reading Always Wear Joy by Susan Fales-Hill.
