Congratulations, AoPiMommy! I'm so glad your daughters had good results. It sounds like you prepared them well for a competitive recruitment, as did all the other moms this year. I've been fairly impressed. I'm sorry your girls couldn't share our lovely sisterhood, but AXO and PiPhi will give them such great opportunities!

AOPII Angel: I am sorry, too. As is my mom, my grandmother and my aunt. But it just goes to show you, legacy doesn't pull much weight anymore. But I am happy for them nonetheless. Thank you to this forum for keeping me sane this week. Such a godsend.

Congrats to all!
I just learned that one of the local Chi Omega alums now has a daughter who will be her sister. Woo Hoo. I love it when it works out!!! |
Congrats to all of your girls! I am still waiting to hear where my rec girls went.
As to UT's numbers being down-and don't flame me for saying this, but it is true and is being widely discussed among UT alumni. Admission standards have gone up quite significantly at UT since we got the Hope scholarship- UT is now attracting a different kind of student. (The same thing happened at Georgia about 12 years ago.) Although their are TONS of girls in glo's who have a 4.0 and are very, very strong students, etc., the IDEA that you can't be greek and still be serious about your studies has crept into the culture of a lot of prospective UT students and parents, and a lot of people feel that this is what has hurt the numbers, both male and female, for the past few years. WE all know this is NOT really true, but it is a perception that I have heard from quite a few people so it must be pretty widespread among a lot of freshmen and their parents, and the recruitment numbers seem to back it up. And, not to slam anybody, guess where a LOT of TN and GA kids go if they want a big SEC school with greek life, but do not get into UT or UGA- they go to Alabama or Ole Miss. Thus, Alabama in particular has had a huge jump in out of staters from TN and GA over the past few years, and a corresponding jump in greek numbers. Whoever said it above is right-a lot of the girls who would have been sorority members at UT a few years ago are now at Bama or Ole Miss. UT Panhellenic and IFC have got to find a way to reverse this perception but I don't know how they can get it done. Regardless, Congrats again to all of the new members who made the very wise decision to go through recruitment at UTK! |
CONGRATS to all the moms and daughters!!! :)

I have seen status updates on these boards about the total amount each chapter pledged, etc, from other schools. I hope that someone in the know will post this with regard to UT! I am walking on air :) :) :)

VolMom, I guess not. Her suitemate went Tri Delt, but her other suitemate and her roommate didn't go through recruitment. Oh well...it would have been funny if we were both stressing and they turned out to be suitemates. I'm like AoPiMommy - walking on air right about now.

Volmom and Formerlurker, I agree on the regional membership. When I was at UT, one chapter took mainly Knoxville girls. Here's to more diversity!

Heard from some of my rec girls- 2 Zetas, 1 Kappa, 1 DZ, 1 KD, 1 AOPi!
Still waiting to hear about a few more! |
Congrats to all the new Greek ladies at UTK! :)

Happy to hear your girls got their bids! Morton - I tried to get over to your daughter today to introduce myself but it was crazy at bid day! |

No. No daughter pledging for another eight years here. I was asked what chapter I am an alumni to.
|
Just wondering, did the quota get raised?
