It does seem that NM numbers so far have dropped from last year, it doesnt surprise me that the economy has something to do with it...
but I just want to send my Congrats to lsumomx2's daughter for choosing Zeta.I know a few Zetas, and they are sweet, fun, and outgoing girls.

Obviously since your daughter pledged them, they are an excellent chapter!

2010 lsu

Am I wasting my time? I'm from FL, with very few recs, not a legacy. However, I got good grades and an academic scholarship to LSU. I was athlete of the year 2 years at my school, and always MVP. Homecoming court two years at a prestegious private school... But I feel like I wont receive any bids!:(

No one can say for sure what your chances are.

Just continue to get recs, present yourself well, and see what happens.

You may get a bid, you may not.

FYI: At the end of the process, you only receive one bid (not bids, plural).

Are there still some schools that provide multiple bids and then the PNM gets to choose?

Um, I've heard of it during a more structured informal or at schools who are using some of the other formal recruitment structures (like Minimally Structured Recruitment) but not at a school like LSU (that uses the standard structured formal recruitment).

Towson only does this during informal spring recruitment.

Yeah i knew that LSU wouldn't, but the OP posted in two places so I didn't feel too bad about hijacking this one to ask the question :D

Thanks!

Back when I rushed, durning the Carter-Reagan presidential race, we had the option to be put on each sorority's "open bid" list when filling out our preference sheets. This meant that we could recieve bids from any sorority, whether or not we preffed them or they, us. I know one girl who did this (she was called home during rush due to family illness and missed some parties) but I don't know how many bids she got. I also heard that a high school classmate at one of the less-competitive SEC schools got bids from all 13 sororities then on campus. I've never seen any situations like this mentioned elsewhere on GC, so I wonder if it's since evolved into the snap bid system, or what.

Yeah, I knew that some schools did that style of bidding, but I don't know how it actually ends up working out because it seems like it would be absolute madness with 13 sororities!

Marshall still allows women to receive multiple bids, or at least they still did when my friend joined 2005.

Eyes boggling at imagining the madness of an SEC school doing that...

Someone with more knowledge than I... how does that work? Does each chapter only bid to quota and then snap bid? Or do they overbid knowing that obviously people will have multiple options.

Or is there only total, not quota?

Or am i totally off track?

"Very few recs" won't cut it at LSU. You'll need at least one rec for every single chapter -- two or three if you can find them. Contact your local alumnae Panhellenic association now, and start working your contacts -- relatives, parents of friends (both moms and dads,) teachers, guidance counselors, employers, coworkers, ministers, etc. Tell everyone you know that you're going through sorority recruitment. Ask if they're sorority members (from any school,) or if they know sorority members. Put a request out on your Facebook page as well.
