I didn't realize there was a 'contest' here.

What's the prize?

It's a hack reference to the Lil Wayne song, because pop music is a copycat sport right now.

Ironically, the Lil Wayne track (which is actually rap, unlike the one you're referring to) uses the lollipop metaphor to make a point about selling out to get a number one hit, although it also uses it to make, well, sex references. This isn't exactly Chaucer, but it's not that hard if you really try either.

Yeah I know thanks a bunch. I used that line to express my displeasure at the recent posts on the news and politics forum. Well.. actually it was on the radio while I was typing but you get the drift. I know the difference between fake rap, three six mafia, and real rap, lady gaga.

Is what NP enough? The crab alfredo? Yup. You can freeze it and ship it on dry ice or you can ship it the same day on blue ice. Either way is just fine. It wont spoil. I promise.

That sounds gross so don't sue me if it becomes infected with something.

Also - it's clearly intended to be read as both "[little] white lies" and "lies from whites" and I can't imagine that's disputable. I don't think that is a particularly 'racist' thought - after all, a black guy thinking whites have lied to him isn't exactly ground-breaking, and is probably (from a perception standpoint) fairly true, even though a massive number of those lies have come from his side of the political aisle.

Exactly.

The bolded is another reason why the lyric is dumb.

Why are you bringing me into this? What odds are you talking about? The lyrics are what they are. I provided them and my interpretation of them. No help necessary for that.

Simply because, in this 'back-and-forth,' you and DS seemed aligned.

And we all thank you for your service, not only to the thread but to lovers of tautology near and far. However, I believe your interpretation is unnecessarily narrow, perhaps intentionally so to dodge the assertions in the OP.

Also, your assertions here are a gross mischaracterization of lines like "I guess will.i.am and Oprah weren't on your Christmas card list" for what that's worth.

My interpretation wasn't intentionally narrow. I listened to the verse once and made my assesment from it. Could it have multiple meanings? Yes. I am well aware of that. I did not take it to mean that all white people are liars. Thus I did not take it to be a racist statement. I gave my reason.

How are my assertions a gross mischaracterization? Are you sure you understood my assertions?

I agree with the second portion (it's not 'racist' under any reasonable definition) completely.

I do think it's more broad than your interpretation - Bush is an example of lies from whites/the white establishment - but all's fair otherwise.

Of course I'm not sure I understood. However, it was clearly beyond giving your interpretation of the song.

DrPhil 01-22-2009 04:52 PM

I think, therefore, I am.

^ I agree with the above as well. The point in saying what I did was to show one reason why I don't think its racist.

^ how so?

The 2nd comment about Will.I.Am and Oprah was basically an example of two celebs who have used their celeb status to impact politics recently (probably could've given one from each side but I didnt think it necessary). I completely understand being against that because they're not experts they're just regular people who have undue influence.
