I have a question for everybody. We all know that J.K. likes at allude to certain things through her books (and movies that have been made), and last night I was watching G.o.F on HBO and asked myself the question: What part does polyjuice potion play in the final book if any at all. In half of the books (so far) she has used this potion to do several things, in CoS it was used to help Hermione, Harry, and Ron gain entrance to the Slytherin dorm; in GoF it was used by Barty Crouch Jr to act as Mad-Eye, and in the HBP it was used to transform Crabbe and Goyle into girls. So my question is, does anyone think it will play a significant role in the final book?

Little off-topic point here too. In GoF when Harry is talking to Barty Sr and Mad-Eye walks up he flicks his tongue to the left, but when Harry falls into the pensieve Barty Jr flicks his tongue to the right......just a thing I noticed, weird how they were supposed to be the same person, yet it kinda got screwed up a little.

Polyjuice: Could go either way. I liked that it was brought back in HBP because it showed continuity and that the Slytherins weren't stupid (not that Crabbe and Goyle concocted the thing but still). However I'm not sure it will reappear. It's bordering on overdone now. I'd bet there are other things that we could pull from previous books though. Animagi for example. Except for Rita Skeeter we haven't seen hide nor hair of any of them. (And any more of Tonks' kind would be interesting too -metamorphamagi? )

I'd bet that Barty Jr/Mad Eye just flicks his tongue in general, not just to the left or right.

On this I am not to certain about, I just caught it at the end of the movie and thought it was odd, probably analyzing too much at this point.

As for the other things likely to happen, who knows? That woman is a genius, i swear she is. She captivated the youth of my generation (for the most part) and has been able to continually hold our attention, making us want more and to finally end it. I mean I am about to be 20 years old and I still read these dang books and watch the movies. Obviously she did something very right and I have no doubt the last book is gonna be a phenomenon.

Everyone should invest in a book company soon, I have a feeling book companies stocks are about to soar with the release of that book (not too certain how that actually works, but I hoped it sounds as good on this thread as it did in my head :) ) I dont think there is going to be any comparison when it comes to the number of copies of this last book she is going to sell, I am predicting record breaking numbers, especially for the first few days.

Ah, you mean movie? (i didn't remember if it was in the books) Could be that the shot was reversed or that the actors didn't communicate. The script could have said that Moody/Crouch flicks his tongue, Moody's actor chose to flick all one way and Crouch just happened to flick the other and no one caught it.

I just finished watching the 4th movie and I didn't notice anything different. When Harry was in the pensive I noticed that Barty Jr. flicked his tongue multiple times in both directions (to me a sign of agitation, fear, excitment, etc....not his usual neervous tick), but all the other times the tongue was flicked to the left.

Is anyone else rereading the books and really starting to notice little details now? I was picking some out earlier, but of course, they've slipped my mind, damn ADD.
But it is amazing how, now I've read up to book 6, I can go back and pick stuff out-both events that foreshadow the future and things that may happen later on.
I can even see where JKR could have improved the first book, continuity errors, such as Ron telling Harry all about quidditch on the train and then Harry telling Wood he knew nothing about quidditch.

IDK, I'm sure I'll think of more. I'm so ready for book 7.

Yeah, I've been listening to them as audiobooks and I think the combo of rereading plus hearing it helps me make connections that weren't there before.

christiangirl 06-13-2007 04:28 AM

I'm rereading them all, one per week. Barnes and Noble is having weekly discussions, so I just reread the book we're about to discuss so that I'm ready when I come into work (I assist leading them). I'm gonna miss tomorrow...

Lady Pi Phi 06-13-2007 07:15 AM

Yeah, I'm rereading them as well. I started with book 6 and I'm working my way backwards. I'm halfway through Chamber of Secrets right now.

Pike/PhiDeltmom 06-13-2007 08:40 AM

Wouldn't Barty, Jr. be a Slitherin and maybe a parcel tongue? That would explain why he flicks his tongue like a snake?

Pike/PhiDeltmom 06-13-2007 08:48 AM

O.K. After thinking about it for just a couple of minutes, I realize how off base this is. What other Slitherin flicks his tongue? And Harry speaks parcel tongue and doesn't have any freeky facial/tongue tissues.

Yes. And despite my earlier steadfast position that Harry is not a Horcrux, my re-read of Book 2 has convinced me that, in fact, he is -- an accidental Horcrux, but a Horcrux, nonetheless.

Me too and I am almost done with OOTP. It's funny how I missed little things that turned into big things.
