I guess A. Miss Jobelle

NutBrnHair 09-11-2007 02:15 AM

Forgive me...

It was a bit of a trick question -- Jobelle WAS an English professor for many years at University of Arkansas; however, she never served as National President!

Kirk Bell Cocke WAS on the faculty of the business school for F.S.U. for many years and was S.H. from 1979 - 1988.

Which Sister tells the story of an owl flying into her house only days before her election as National President?

a.) Jean Vincenheller
b.) Jan Blackwell
c.) Jean Mrasek
d.) none of the above (I mean, come on, would that really happen?)

I have no idea what the answer is but I wanted to bump this thread up
Is it D?

It actually happened to our current National President, Jean Mrasek! A couple of days before she left to travel to San Antonio for the 2004 National Convention (which elected her S.H.), an owl which had been nesting in an arrangement on her front door, flew into her living room!

During the official dedication of the Chi Omega Executive Headquarters in Memphis, held June 1995, a skydiver (dressed in an owl costume) jumped out of a plane, landed in the parking lot, came to the podium and announced what?

a.) greetings from our neighbors Kappa Delta and Pi Kappa Alpha
b.) the anonymous gift of a fifty piece place setting of hand-painted china
c.) a proclamation by the Governor of Tennessee that it was "Chi Omega Day"
d.) an owl at the Memphis Zoo was named Persephone in honor of the occasion

Correct CutieHootie -- you have a question for the group?

Cutie_Hootie 10-09-2007 08:46 PM

Which sister's badge was recently donated to the Executive Headquarters?

a. Harper Lee
b. Mary Love Collins
c. Ethel Switzer Howard
d. Roselyn Dabbs
e. Elizabeth Orman

ps--Bonus points if you can explain who donated it and why. :)

Jobellesis 10-12-2007 10:48 AM

I think I read that it belonged to (c.) Ethel, who wrote Chi Omega Symphony. Didn't Ethel's grandson give it to a Chi O friend who donated it? (I'm too lazy to get out my Eluesis. If I'm wrong, I want to delete my answer, so please don't quote me! Ha Ha!)

Cutie_Hootie 10-14-2007 08:42 PM

You are correct! Ethel Switzer Howard's badge was recently donated to the Executive Headquarters! Do you have a question, Jobellesis? :)

Is is the first chapter in Chi Omega - Psi?

Jobellesis 10-19-2007 06:11 PM

Psi is correct. I think that this was one of the first issues of Life after they began publishing it again. It came out just as I was finishing my senior year in college. I graduated a few weeks later. One of my sisters told me about the issue, and I bought one for myself. I've kept it all these years.

I guess it's your turn to ask a question.

BellaBerlee 10-20-2007 12:46 AM

Well if I shall :) Being a teacher and all...

What sister was named the oustanding kindergarten teacher by the National Boards of Teachers? *Hint, she is from Chi Beta*

A) Marcia James Carthaus
B) Elanor Robbins Jonah
C) Ann James Millerborg
D) Dr. Mary Ann Carroll
