Dang.
I go to work, and I miss like 6 pages of AI-fun! My general thoughts on today's posts and a summary in case anyone else's place of employment blocks out GC Fun: * ba - if you paperwork stalled after it had already begun, the questions should be directed to the Alum. Chapter involved. Not random strangers on the internet who may or may not know how your sorority does AI. *While this board is not encouraging swarms and swarms of AI, I would go back and read all the AI threads. Count how many AI's said "I have never thought of AI until now!" Count how many AIs there are because their local affiliated, or they were involved with the collegiate chapter, or they knew someone in the alum chapter already. Now make those numbers a ratio. There's your sign. *As PT noted, ritual is also a part of church, Masonic organizations, etc. *AI is NOT recruitment * I had a difficult major, and I still worked almost 40 hrs/wk, paid my way through college AND all my sorority expenses, still went to class, got all my homework done, and had time for socials with the boys on Fraternity Row. It can be done. People do it every year. It's called time management. * If you choose to attend a SEC school you need to know that you may or may not become greek due to it's competitiveness. If you can't handle that and being greek means the world to you, go to a less competitive school and be over it. Being greek is not the end of the world. I've never been to a SEC campus but they sure look like a lot of fun. I'm sure non-greeks have a great social life just as the greeks do. * I don't know about anyone else, but I don't wake up every morning and think "Gosh, I need to fill my daily quota of finding a great, unaffiliated woman to join my sisterhood!" If there is someone I know very well, and I think she is an outstanding individual, I will let my AA know. I don't let it consume my day, because.. well, I'm at WORK. * Let's lay off the report button * adpiucf is awesome * copied from adpiucf: Please stop implying that you know better for our organizations and what we should be doing. The fact remains that we don't, and we won't until our membership votes otherwise. * I hate to bring it up, but seriously. I'm beginning to wonder why Adelphean is so gung-ho about the AI forum when she posted that she wished the sorority didn't even do AI to begin with. While AI is very rare within the sorority, I still think it's an NPC-wide issue that should not be on GC. * AI is not recruitment * AI is not an open event * Anyone can post in the AI forum. It is not your call to decide who can/can't post here * Also it's not that we're "ANTI-AI" we're "ANTI-SORORITY SHOPPING" and "ANTI- putting information on the intraweb that shouldn't be out there" * I wonder if any of the salons have sent me email replies? |

After all, you might just piss off wannabe-moderators who are trying to do their job! |
Apparently there's a page already.
I think it has about all the information the general public needs. |

Just responding to a few things and I had an idea.
First, I know some sisters who are in the Junior League here. Just for the sake of my understanding of the Junior League, let's say the names are Jane and Sue. So Jane has been in the JL for awhile now (her mom is in it). Sue is a recent graduate from the chapter Jane advised. From my understanding Jane had to recommend Sue to join Junior League and Sue had to be approved. If that is the case, it kind of reminds me of sorority recruitment or even AI membership and therefore you can't just say I want to join the Junior League. Now I'm not a member. I've heard great things, I would love to learn more about it, but I've never been approached by any of the members. So obviously my assumptions are just that assumptions based on hear-say. If anyone is in the JL could you please PM me to clarify. Thanks! Second, I got to thinking about the forum and I came up with an idea, which I am sure has been tossed around. 1) get rid of the forum 2) have sororities (who want to) put stickies on their forum page stating about AI. For example, ADPi we could copy from the official website which says we do it but implies that membership into ADPi through AI is something that the active sorority member is "responsible" for. The site then tells the actives where they can get information. So to me it says "yes we do it, but you need to be approached by an ADPi". (Which if we have to we could easily state) Obviously this isn't going to work for everyone. The way I'm looking at it (which feel free to disagree) is like it being in our forum, ADPi's are the ones who can tell the person "I'm sorry that isn't appropriate" or "I'm sorry we don't do AI that way" or whatever. I don't know I'm just kind of rambling this idea out of my head. I know some people would argue that the PNAI should be able to post her story (once she is an initiated member or received the okay to join) but she could do that in A) the general recruitment forum (although I get that AI isn't recruitment like formal fall or spring is) or B) post in the specific sorority forum. I'm sure the sisters would love reading the details. I don't know. I'm just trying to come up with ideas to aleviate (spelling issues) the tension that is going on right now. It probably doesn't help that I just took my medicine so I'm a little loopy right now :D So I apologize if none of this is making sense. |
I think a major reason that people look to the NPC sororities is because they have name recognition. I only know about non-collegiate sororities and organizations because my mother has been in a bunch of them (ABWA, P.E.O., Junior Welfare, etc). If you don't know about the other options out there, you go with what you do know: XYZ was at my school or RST has a philanthropy I like. I agree with whoever said bring back the thread about non-collegiate sororities/orgs. (And I think that people who get told the truth about AI may just stick with it instead of examining other options for that same name recognition reason)
And OTW, get over yourself. |

And I want the SK forum to HAVE a moderator. Baylor Bean or centaur or Lisa would be just fine with me as well. Make a fuss about it if you like, but you're just being a snot. |

Methinks the lady so desperately wants to be moderator she's doing her best to rid herself of her past! And I think that the SK who John is already considering is fine pick, I might add. :) |
