Oh, how I wish that were true. I think Cheney especially has shown that it does NOT take a mandate to wield a great deal of influence.
I do agree that congress goes along with entirely too much, but they're too worried about getting screwed over if they vote against something- they're "soft on terrorism" they "don't support our troops" and all that nonsense. Yuck. Strap on a pair!

Washington Post Reports

McCain campaign openly admits an upcoming fierce attack on Barack Obama (starting Tuesday). Prepare for negative attack ads about Obama's integrity, honestly and character. McCain is preparing to "take off the gloves" during the debate. This should be interesting!

My opinion: it'll work!

I'm not sure it will. Palin is getting a lot of criticism over her, "Obama is friends with terrorists" statement.

Anything that will take the focus off the economy will work. I'm surprised McCain will go this direction... personal attacks about Obama's connection with various people. McCain has a couple of relationships I'm sure he doesn't want placed in lime light again... that will surely be counter productive. This is definitely not the McCain I remember for the last two decades.

I love you! Queen Latifah was excellent. I was sure they would include, "Say it ain't so, Joe".

One sad note, Tina Fey said she will be "done" playing Sarah Palin on November 5th. It will be a long four years if McCain wins and there is no good parody of Palin on SNL.

Are you serious? I wonder why!?! She makes such a great Sarah! I guess this is just another reason to vote Obama... We don't want someone else to play Sarah for the next four years! lol. :D

I think the deal is that she wants to be done, not that she said absolutely that she will be.

If Palin is back in Alaska, Tina Fay is done.

Well, the McCain you remember didn't get the nomination.

So maybe McCain has learned some interesting and maybe unfortunate lessons.

I'm told I do a wicked Sarah, so if SNL is hiring . . .

True... and I believe he isn't too happy (or comfortable) about some of the things he is being told to do. You can just tell. I never thought this would ever be something we would talk about during this race. McCain, as I remember, is all about "NO Bull" politics.

4PM: MSNBC is now re-airing the Biden/Palin debate w/ the Truth Squad scroller on the bottom of the screen. Every statement is proved true or false! I'm lovin' this.

How much is MSNBC "truth" worth to you? More or less than Fox?

I'd say about equal...after the debate Fox News found a couple of false statements Biden made, as well as a couple from Sarah. FOX NEWS (the news, not the Fox News Channel, lol) is generally (i repeat, generally) non-bias...it's everything else on that network that seems to have some right-wing agenda!

Article I is in fact the only place in the Constitution where the role of the vice-president is mentioned, the only problem here is that Article I is what lays out the role and structure of THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH and establishes only that the VP is the President of the Senate but has no vote except in the case of a tie and establishes that there can be a President pro tempore who is to preside over the Senate when the vice-president is absent.

Sure it was a misstep to say that Article I creates the Executive, rather than the Legislative, branch -- although it's a misstep I've heard many times from many knowledgable people. (And I would disagree that Article I is the only place the Constitution mentions the role of the Veep. Article II, section 6, lays out the primary role of the vice-president -- to take on the duties of president if necessary.)

But the point was to refute a claim made by Dick Cheney -- that the vice-president's office is part of the legislative branch. (Or, per some other statements, that the office is part of the executive branch and the legislative branch, or that it is not part of either.) Cheney made this claim to explain why his office was not subject to rules signed by Bush on the handling and release of classified documents by executive branch officials and offices. I have yet to see any constitutional scholar, or pretty much anyone outside of Cheney's office, who agrees with Cheney's position. Article I or II, the Veep is in the excecutive branch, pure and simple. That's the point Biden was making and he was right, even if he did refer to Article I when he should have said II.

^^^ Assuming that it's a real photo and not a photoshop special, how does this add anything constructive? It's hating on Palin just for the sake of hating on her; it's completely irrelevant to the actual campaign. All it does is reduce (even further than some of the stuff you've already posted) the credibility of anything else you say about her.

Munchkin03 10-06-2008 03:49 PM

Cry if you want to, I don't care. I'm just saying putting up stuff like this, while it might get a laugh, adds little if anything of substance and more often than not is counter-productive. It's political debate on a middle school level.

After a quick review of the Huffington Post's tribute to Piper, I'm going to go with it actually being her. What a cutie!

All of which is why I've just stopped posting in these political threads. I know that if I want to discuss the issues, there are people I can PM (as I've said before, you, nittanyalum, and others).

There's the picture off the office of the Alaska governor's website that its photoshopped from (she's making the peace sign and someone took her index finger off). But yeah, posting that was completely pointless Daemon. If you're going to copy and paste stuff here from Democratic Underground at least copy and paste the post where even those nutjobs pointed out that it was pointless, retarded, and a photoshop too.

Drolefille 10-06-2008 06:01 PM

heh wanna bet she's telling him to shut up? We had some teachers do that in school.

It's stupid, if it were a real pic it'd been amusing but it says nothing about politics.

A photoshopped picture is just bad juju. It has its place in a humor thread, on a humor site, on Fark.com, but not when people are actually wanting to discuss things.

Seriously DS, I've lost a lot of respect for you over the attitude of "HA HA HA SMEAR THE GOP BECAUSE ITS FUNNY" when I do believe you disagree with McCain smearing Obama. Pot, please meet kettle.

AGDee 10-06-2008 08:08 PM

I didn't even notice the kid, I thought the joke was Palin's coat. That said, I much prefer to stick to real issues.

I saw the Target they were building in Wasilla last summer from the Alaska Railroad car I was riding in. There's another store being built in Anchorage. Have no idea if they are open yet or when it will happen.

Ok...that is fine...but...here is something that you should see...McCain in his own words contradicts himself as he goes negative this week...you know how they say your words will come back to haunt you...and this is no laughing matter:

and yeah...you can be mad that people are making fun of the GOP but let's face it...teh GOP has made a laughingstock of the US for the past 8 years and McCAin's running and what he is doing and how he is trying to take our minds off of real problems shows that he just doesn't give a damn.....

Me too, but weirdly, I kind of liked the coat. Not as something I would wear myself but just as something that I thought was funny-cute for her to wear. I'm not sure why.

OMG WOW OH NOES! You finally noticed what is commonly called presidential politics. Every candidate - including your dear Obamessiah - promises to run a clean campaign and not be politics as usual and every one of them proceeds to run negative ads.

And I think the point earlier wasn't that people shouldn't make fun of the GOP, it was that if they want to they shouldn't flip out when people make fun of their party/candidate. So if you want to bitch about how mean McCain is and they shouldn't make fun of Obama, you may want to consider the fact that 3/4 of your posts in this forum are attacks or ridiculing Republicans which have no base in any issue, or at least not any real understanding of any issue, whatsoever.

Wooooww!! This is where the McCain camp has gone? Why aren't more people outraged!?! This is Bull!! I'm so pissed off that this election is going to dirt. People are loosing there houses, their heath care plans. People are struggling... and the McCain campaign is trying to BRING DOWN Obama personally? John McCain is NO John McCain in these last few months! Let's do what John McCain said (when he was himself) in the beginning of this campaign... "I will speak about the issues, people care about most! Personal attacks have no place in my campaign." These recent attacks are strategic, demeaning and some are border line racist (yup, i said it)!!

Can anyone link to the actual audio or video of the events so I can see or hear for myself?

I can see the McCain clip and it leaves me less than outraged. I'm not sure McCain even knew what had been shouted to respond to it even if he had wanted to. And most of the audience laughs at the suggestion that Obama is a terrorist, which I think it probably the correct response. It's a laughable suggestion.

3/4 hmmm?? Ridiculing? Hey....not anyone's fault you are on the losing end.

And what's even more funny than that is McCain said the same thing this year and now by ignoring the issues and going for personal attacks is just a show at how desperate he is to right a sinking ship.
