like two years ago! She started out at an out-of-state school and turned down the bid, so she was "stuck" there a year. Went to an in-state school and was dropped by Gamma Phi after second rounds. Dropped out of rush, finished her semester there and transferred to another in-state school where Gamma Phi was doing COB in the spring.

I was shocked when she told me she was transferring again, but she really wanted to be a Gamma Phi and was smart enough to know how rare AI is.

OnTheBanks 08-19-2008 12:41 PM

I hope it was everything she hoped it would be and that she is happy at her new school :)

GreekAlphaSoup 08-19-2008 12:46 PM

I have heard that the entire list of UGA results is posted somewhere - who pledged where from what town? Anyone know?

LoveMyKeyKKG 08-19-2008 01:04 PM

Lots of UGA Bid Day pictures here too!

estherjb 08-19-2008 01:21 PM

I think the picture of the signs hanging off the TriDelt house with the pledges names listed are the closest we're going to get to a bid list.

NUBlue&Blue 08-19-2008 02:20 PM

I guess I lied when I said I didn't know anybody going through rush at UGA. The first picture I clicked on I saw a girl from church (she went to private school, so I forgot about her, I guess).

But from the looks of the photo (crown name tags), she pledged Zeta, which was her legacy chapter.

Gorgeous photos and just the beginning of the fun and excitement of college. :)

lawgal 08-19-2008 02:24 PM

did I miss this? Did all the sororities at UGA make quota?

irishpipes 08-19-2008 02:33 PM

No, I've heard of one so far that was under quota. I don't have all the numbers though.

there were quite a few that i've heard didn't make quota. most of them were only a few girls away, though.

Looking through those makes you realize how little it means for a girl rushing at UGA in 2008 to be described as pretty. I got tired of clicking on new pictures before I saw a girl who was anything less than stunning.

I had the exact same thought. Not attractive at all...many looked like they stepped out of the 80s. Are those "top tier" guys? It seems to look like that in every video or photo I see of the southern chapters - gorgeous, polished girls and slobby guys.

Yep. Doesn't some of what they are wearing just kind of say, "I'm being hazed"?

And does anyone know what Kappa's theme was?

Peppy, at some of the SEC schools, the ratio is about 60% female overall and the Greek system is tipped toward girls way outnumbering guys. Maybe the guys figure they can let themselves go.

"We're in a League of Our Own"

All the active sisters were wearing baseball/softball/sporty looking outfits.

peaches321 08-19-2008 07:53 PM

I remember my husband observing that when our older daughter went to her first high school dance, he learned the definition for "semi-formal" had changed... the girls dressed up and the guys didn't, making it SEMI-formal. It is nice to see the guys who go to the trouble to put on a button-down and khakis from time to time, but they certainly can also look like roadkill. Oh, and I don't think it's hazing... more like, "Hey, Dude, what if we...?" "Yeah, Dude, that sounds awesome!" And I do believe it is fueled by a bit more than Red Bull. :)

It took me a long time to realize that the girls wearing jerseys were participating in bid day as opposed whatever the Red Bull chicks were doing, and then once I did, it took at long time to figure out which group they were.

Cool to break with tradition once in a while and it looked like they had a great time.

My school was 60% women, too...actually, that's a trend at many/most universities now.

Yeah. But I guess your guys worked harder. ;)

ETA: I'm just curious: it is also true that a higher percentage of girls than guys are Greek on most campuses? It's really significant at some of the SEC schools because a higher percentage of women are Greek and then there's a larger number of women to start with. I think it may contribute to fraternity guys having a lot more social opportunities that the women do.

Interestingly, I was reading an article about how campus culture really changes when it gets too much further away from 50%. It was one of those things when you don't have time to read the whole thing and then you don't find it again. Did anyone else read it? It was sort of a warning to parents.

I thought this was so cute! It was kind of refreshing, after all those perfect looking girls in sundresses, to see the Kappas decked out in those hilarious outfits! But then again I'm a little biased...;)

Is anyone besides me upset that UGA won't post the pledge list besides me? Alabama and Auburn post their list. I think last year was the first year UGA posted the list. Yes, eventually you can found out where each girl pledged by going to each sorority web site, but that is several weeks or months from now.

Protecting the privacy of the newest members is never a bad thing.

This disservice to some of you isn't really worth getting upset over.

In deference to OTW's admonishment, "upset" may be too strong a word...more like "frustrated" or "annoyed" is how I feel. For pete's sake - the list was posted last year; other schools post their lists; names will soon be on chapter websites and don't forget about facebook, etc.

southernbell196 08-20-2008 12:54 AM

When a bid day list is on the the panhellenic or news website, it makes it very easy to get to. With facebook and different sororities websites it makes it alot harder to get the information. The other reason why UGA might of posted a list last year and not this year is the sad death of two college women from Georgia this year. To be completely honest for the girls safety I am glad they did not post the list

Figures you'd react that way, given your past history of stalking GC PNMs who never bothered to post updates.

Go on with yo' bad self.

UGA list

Perhaps they are going to post a list and have not yet - it seems to me last year that it took a few days.

I was going to say, maybe there are reasons unique to the area that they're concerned about stalkers and the safety of the girls.

Re the guys, they don't look "slobby" to me - just really, really, really young.

And some of those girls need to step away from the tanning bed. You should not be 19 and have lines around your eyes.

UGAALUM 08-20-2008 11:02 AM

Southernbell 196 you mentioned the death of 2 UGA college girls last year. Were these girls in sororities? I don't recall hearing about it. Were they caused because their names were posted on the list??

Well actually, I Googled and found a picture of the killer with the bid list in his hand.

Honestly, if they are taking precautions because of what southernbell196 mentioned and you're still irked because YOU don't have access to the bid list, you need to rethink your priorities.

So you think alumnae's obsession with who got what girls overrides a desire to keep the new member's safe and respect their privacy?

PeppyGPhiB 08-20-2008 12:29 PM

Regarding the list not being posted, maybe the school just felt it was NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. If you don't know the girl well enough for her to give you a call or email you where she ended up, then you don't need to know.

Army Wife'79 08-20-2008 12:37 PM

Perhaps someone should tell the newspapers Society Editors this when it comes to sororities and debutantes. They list girl, parent's, school, major, hometown, high school and almost everything about these girls except their bra size. And their Mama's run out and get dozens of copies to give to all the relatives. When I first moved down South I was fascinated by it but now I realize it's "a Southern Thing".

Except deb balls and many things in the society pages are meant to be in there, even given to the paper by the parties involved. I'm pretty sure most of the women rushing sororities don't give their permission to post their rush results all over the Internet.

Whoa there sister...I never said I wanted to see the list published online.

I'm just giving her a "present" I think she'll enjoy! :)

Oh, bullshit.

This has nothing to do with "north" or "south" so I don't see why your "present" is relevant. One person posted a possible and logical reason why the bid list wasn't published, and she was treated rudely - by someone who is old enough to know better.
