Riddler is too campy of a character, either you make him too much like the Joker or he's too silly.

And they had Barbara Gordon right there on the screen and you didn't see her face! Batgirl for the win.

Also, Two-Face is dead. Not coming back.

THANK YOU!!!

And I still say Carey sucks because he acted like he did in The Mask and other movies. Not a good balance between sinister and silly.

Someone had an idea earlier of, if you want to make him sinister, make him similar to Jigsaw in the Saw movies....I don't see that as a bad idea considering teh Joker was just as campy back in the day.

We have enough Saw and Hostel movies, though.

If they take Batman that route, which they may have to do since the next The Joker will be scrutinized for not being Ledger, they need not turn it into a gruesome horror flick.

I hope Bale's Batman is the first one to get a rusty nail through his voice box.

That would be sweeeeeeeet!

BTW, I believe Christian Bale just always talks like that. I seem to recall that in Little Women he had a weird lisp thing goin' on. It probably has something to do with him being an Englishman doing an American accent, too.

i located the cite that you gave: http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0265713/
along with another one with some thoughts from the producer. note link also has spoilers and thoughts on other characters including riddler:

It suggests that The Riddler as well as Catwoman could be potential characters. It also suggests that Nolan doesn't want to use the Penguin or Robin. And that some other producer doesn't want to use Catwoman. So who knows? As far as Two-Face goes, it says that Eckhart is confirmed for the third movie, but if you go to the source link about it, it is just a statement from Eckhart that he would love to appear in the third movie. Again, who knows?

The second link is really plugging Talia Al Ghul. Interesting.

Kudos to whoever pointed out the unseen Barbara Gordon. I doubt we get her if we're not getting Robin though. She'll still be a really little girl. :(

Bad bad bad idea. Original Joker was not campy, he showed up and caused chaos with no explanation. Original Riddler was campy. Joker was as close to a Jigsaw as Batman should get.

No new Joker! I prefer to think that Batman and Joker are indeed locked together forever in combat.

Dude's apparently so good at accents he slips in and out of them in interviews.

Yeah I don't like the Talia Al Ghul idea. First, Ras isn't necessarily dead, second, I don't think the movie needs a return on the League of Shadows. And yeah, Barbara is still very young... but I SAW her *grin*

I'd like to see at least a touch of catwoman, old school once again where she's a jewel thief and Batman's intellectual equal. Ventriloquist would be interesting though I don't know how well he'd translate. More Scarecrow is always nice... But I still think that Two-Face and Joker must STAY off the table.

How about Bane, you know the real one, not a juiced up Ivy henchman...

DaemonSeid 07-29-2008 10:49 AM

****new rule for this thread....LOL
When you finish your post, end it in a Batman movie quotes....bonuses to the next poster who can ID it...hehe ****

I agree about the Bane Character, if they want to go for newer villains, and after re reading the Hush series, I kind of want to see that done too but they have to do Catwoman before that comes around.....No one wants to see a Penguin rehash?

"Wait til they get a load of me...."

Tinia2 07-29-2008 11:06 AM

i could do without the penguin. to me just would not fit this style.
and here is another thought:while i do not see a need for a direct cross over with any other dc charactor, it would make a little bit of sense to perhaps have a glimpse of one given that a few others are in preproduction. marvel was sharp enough to do that.
"It could be any one of them... But which one? Which ones?"

Seriously, I hope people who haven't seen it aren't glued to all of these reviews. It can either ruin the movie for you because the excitement is gone or you can have too high expectations and be disappointed.

Movie spoilers and reviews never bother me when I haven't seen the movie but they do bother a lot of people.

aggieAXO 07-31-2008 11:52 PM

Just saw the movie tonight-YAWN...almost fell asleep. Way too long and serious and too all over the place. Bale's voice was annoying-sounded like he smoked a pack of cigs before his Batman scenes.

I'll take my Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson any day over Bale and Ledger. They were at least fun to watch.

LOL. A few reviews said the movie's too long for a summer release. I agree.

I say they could've taken some of Batman's lispy scenes out--they could've definitely taken the substory of the fake Batmen--and made a shorter and more amazing storyline.

I definitely agree about Keaton. I kinda agree about Nicholson because Nicholson was more fun. Ledger was funny at times but it was much more depressing than Nicholson's Joker. That's why Ledger was acclaimed as giving Joker a darker, more sinister twist.

Tinia2 08-01-2008 08:40 AM

just heard an entertainment report that had a rumor of johnny depp in next movie as the riddler. and hoffman as the penguin. p hilton was the reporter.

DSTCHAOS 08-01-2008 10:27 AM

Johnny Depp as Riddler = Tim Burton's wetdream = Charlie and the Chocolate Factoryesque = eh...maybe won't work

Hopefully the P is for Perez. I think Perez Hilton would make a great reporter. :p

epchick 08-01-2008 12:34 PM

Please dear Jesus, no Johnny Depp!!!!! Let us not ruin another movie with that craptastic actor.

MandyPepperidge 08-03-2008 10:18 PM

Johnny Depp would be too conventional. Christopher Nolan is known for taking chances on actors who don't appear to make sense, but exceed expectations. Most people/critics were shocked when Heath Ledger was pegged as the Joker, but he was brilliant. (This is coming from my cousin, who works at DC Comics, but I agree with him.)

DreamfulSpirit 08-03-2008 10:21 PM

I think I liked Heath Ledger's joker better than Jack Nicholson's. Jack Nicholson played the joker as a funny character, because that's how it was written. Heath Ledger's Joker character was written to be a more serious role, not really a comedic role. I liked Heath Ledger's version better...he brought more "criminal" to the character.

I definitely know Chaos would agree to this:

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/2...779624000.html

Quote:

But here's the critique most widely held: Why does Batman talk like the offspring of Clint Eastwood and a grizzly bear?

Though much of the voice effect is Bale's own doing, under the guidance of director Christopher Nolan and supervising sound editor Richard King, the frequency of his Batman voice was modulated to exaggerate the effect.

Critics and fans have noticed.

"His Batman rasps his lines in a voice that's deeper and hammier than ever," said NPR's David Edelstein.

Reviewing the film for MSNBC, Alonso Duralde wrote that Bale's Batman in "Batman Begins" "sounded absurdly deep, like a 10-year-old putting on an `adult' voice to make prank phone calls. This time, Bale affects an eerie rasp, somewhat akin to Brenda Vaccaro doing a Miles Davis impression."

:) I was wondering why the movie critiques were pretending not to hear it. Thanks.

ETA: But they aren't really clowning his lispy rasp like they should be. :(
